This review is LONG overdue. As I look back this was one of the BEST experience for my natural hair. I was skeptical and quite nervous during and after my appointment- it was my first time at a Dominican salon. I was afraid my hair would not revert. My hair was STRAIGHT and silky with TONS of life and I was for sure it would never go back kinky/curly again. No humidity bothered it, there were no tangles, it was straight until I washed it.... As soon as shampoo hit my hair, all of my worries were gone as my curls came bouncing back to life. They've since moved but I'm looking forward to another visit. read more

Did not go to this salon. Prices are outrageous and I had to search several links to find what the prices are, and then had to email her. I was not able to get a clear idea of the products used for a relaxer. Some are so dishonest that they charge $175 and then used the cheapest products they can find. I also read some reviews where she charged $300 ! This is just thievery and they often do not post prices because they want to take advantage of you and then your obligated to pay whatever they decide. This business allows for some to just swindle people and then call it service. They are not some Hollywood hair stylist ! read more

I had been to another Dominican salon in Dallas, but it doesn't even come close to this one! Booking the appointment was super easy and Yoradi was able to see me earlier. When I got there, Yoradi was friendly, attentive and definitely wanted to make sure I got the best experience possible. I really appreciate that she took her time with me and did what was best to fit my hair care needs. I especially appreciate the fact that she was super delicate with my hair after hearing that I've been naturally curly for about 5 years. One should always go with there first impression. i had not gone to this shop in over a year because my last experience was bad... but I considered the last time I went the owner Yoradi did not do my hair so maybe because she would be servicing me this time my experience would be different.... not the case at all. I have never experienced such unprofessional, I was left just sitting in her chair as she started a meeting in the back, after waiting 30 minutes I knocked on the door and kindly stated I needed to be in to work in 4 hours, she said ok sorry I will be right there, after 20 more minutes I politely got up from her chair with my hair all over my head and walked out. So I have not been a frequent flyer of getting my hair straightened, since I have been on a protective style kick since becoming a teacher last year. I've been keeping my hair in crochet braids, which I totally recommend BTW. However, I needed a trip and length check badly, and since I had my second son, looking forward to wash day gives me anxiety LOL. It is just too much with all this hair that I have. So I decided to go back to Yorudi to have my hair straightened. The last time I saw her was 3 years ago, so the salon has seen some upgrades since then which are nice! Yes, it is tons of heat. But once you have been natural as long as I have, you take risk so that you can get a different look, and I'd rather have a professional do it than myself. However, my hair came out beautifully and I don't think I have gotten that many compliments on it before. I am literally in the 2nd week of my blowout and am still getting compliments. Mind you, I am 4b/4c natural, super curly kinky! So I am a believer. I will go back this Saturday and just have her do a roller set, because the main reason is to have someone wash and condition my hair lol. I just don't have the energy! I'll upload pics so you can see the results. I will end with this, you have to make sure that you are the sayer of what goes on with your hair. If your not comfy with high heat or with how it's looking, SAY SOMETHING. You have to! And if your natural like me, then make sure you do what you know is right when trying to preserve your style. Make sure that you are wrapping your hair every night, and make sure that you are showering with a plastic cap, not too hot of water, and only re-apply heat very seldom. read more

Went in a couple of weeks ago to have my hair serviced. I needed my sew-in taken down, and a virgin relaxer. I was in the shop for a while but oh man did my hair come out great!! The ladies took their time on my hair to make sure my post-sewin knots were out and that the relaxer was effective. This also included a blow out. The ladies here are very friendly. I understand most Spanish but do not speak it very well and they did not treat me any differently! Very family oriented shop. This was my first experience at this salon. My hair was properly washed with deep condition under the dryer. Please remember that deep condition is extra no matter what Dominican salon you go to. Deep condition it great to keep hair healthy, I always recommend spending the extra money on it. My hair was then properly rolled, I don't remember the assistants name but she was really great and took extra care to massage my scalp and ensure the rollers were tight. I usually only get my hair blow dried, to reduce the heat and stress on the hair from blow dry and flat iron. Yany did a great job of my blow dry. If you like your hair to relax, I recommend either wrapping your hair or doing a bun. This allows your hair to relax and after you let your hair down your curls or straight look is perfect. My hair is thick so I always opt to wrap or put in a bun after my blow dry to allow my hair to relax. I'm from Houston and since moving here I will return to see yany in between my visits to my regular Dominican stylist in Houston. read more

My first visit was 2 weeks ago. I made an appointment for a wash, condition and style. When I arrived, I figured it would be quicker to get just a simple curl. Well, after waiting 50 minutes (WITH AN APPT), i left. I decided to give them a 2nd chance. So, I made another appt. for a wash, condition and flat-iron. Yoradi said it the price starts at $45. I arrived at the salon on time at 10am to wait with several other customers for 40 minutes because the salon was closed! When I finally made it to the wash bowl, I asked the stylist, how much would it be EXACTLY for my hair. She said $45. Yoradi, the owner blow dried & styled my hair. After I paid, I noticed my receipt showed the Wash and Set charged was $55. When I asked her about it she reiterated that her prices start at $45. I stated, I was told today that it would be $45. I went on to try and explain to her the importance of setting price expectations BEFORE rendering the service as some may not have the additional monies for the service. I feel like it should always be the decision of the customer whether or not to accept or decline a service. All of my explaining fell on deaf ears, however. Yoradi continued to restate her claim and did nothing to try and earn my continued business. When I told her I yelp, she made a said I was threatening her. When I tried to reconcile she referred me to other Dominican Salons in the DFW! I felt like she did not want my business. She would prefer to remain unapologetic and keep the $10 than to show some accountability for not communicating with me that the ACTUAL cost would be $55. I wanted to make this place my go-to place but it looks like I will have to take my business and my 100+ network of referrals elsewhere. read more

It is on the pricier side but it is the only one closest to Fort Worth all other salons are north of Dallas. Everyone knows I love going to the Dominicans to get my hair done. I have never had an issue until, I came here. Let's put it like this, my hair is natural and I do not have an bad grade of hair. However being that my hair style didn't last 24, and I called the owner and left an voice mail. No follow-up. Shop closed on Mondays. It's fine, I missed work. Great experience! My appointment was at 10am and I got there about 20 mins early. I told the receptionist that I had to make my appt quick due to a baby shower and she took me right in!! I have fine hair that's a curly and I got a regular Dominican blowout. They washed my hair, put rollers in my hair, then blow dried my hair! My hair now is flawless. Not frizzy at all! This was my first experience at this salon and was horrible! I requested a keratin treatment and Yoradi told me that at least for three days I couldn't wash my hair so I decided to give an extra day.After that period my hair didn't look straight,the roots and ends we're wavy so I sent a text and pictures to Yoradi to let her know and she said that sometimes that happen even my hair is soft and thin and that she can do an express keratin.We agreed that we will do it after my trip,so I decided to give a second chance . My appointment was at 10 also with another client so I have to wait for the technician.When I was ready for the blow out,Yoradi had not arrived yet (it was 11:45).The technician and myself called Yoradi but she didn't pick up the phone,she arrived at 1:15 (I wasn't able to leave with the product on my head) Yoradi apologized and did the work.I took 4 hours instead of two for all the inconvenient. At the end I repeated the process of wait 4 days to be able to wash my hair and now my hair doesn't look even with the curly ends.Also I have to mention that my scalp now shows white things like dandruff and I have to deal with that. I tried to get in touch with Yoradi and she said that it's weird but she can do it again but I have to wait 2 1/2 weeks (I will traveling again and I don't have the time and I plan the two keratin treatments with enough time for my trips which were very special occasions).I asked Yoradi for a refund of the $ 250 because now I have to go somewhere else and she stopped replying. I have 4b/4c hair which the website states they can do. I got LOTS of stares from stylists and customers because of my hair... yes i could tell my hair was a hot topic at each stage of care lol. The wash girl piled my stretched 4b/4c hair during the wash after saying "you're hair isn't tangled" before hand. You can imagine the irritation when it came time to detangle.... after 30min of section by section detangling by the wash girl, another woman started giving me The Famous Blowout. Half way in, to ease her from the pain of doing my hair (hair was already reverting back) i asked for the person with the most experience on my hair type to handle it... and.... of course it had to be the beautifully pregnant owner (7months along). When she started my hair she was good and fast. Burnt my scalp a few times in spite for requesting someone else blow dry my hair. The burns were intentional because another person spoke to her in Spanish asking her to take it easy on my hair and her spanish response was "she said she wants it done quickly" (3.5yrs of school spanish at work right there). Anyway, hair looked nice, scalp was in pain, and the price was reasonable... i blessed her baby with a 20% tip.... never again to return. I week later the ends remain straight, i am a scalp sweater so that's fluffed back up. Hoping I don't have heat damage given the heavy conditioner used when i wash in 1 week. When I initially went in it didnt look like the normal black hair salons I go to. It was very simple and basic. I needed a sew-in taken out and my natural hair flat ironed. I was hesitant to let Evelyn take it out because Im used to black women managing black hair but Evelyn did her thang!!! I was HIGHLY impressed. She removed those tracks in such an organized fashion, she was patient, and gentle. My hair was super tangled after the wash and she worked through those tangles better than I do for my own hair. She gave me the best blowout I've ever had. They use these unique type of brushes Ive never seen before. Evelyn put in some over time on my head and won my respect! She worked through them tangles like a soldier. I cant wait to see her again. Yoradi finished out the flat iron and she's just a sweetheart and values hair care. Im extremely impressed with her prices. Its not outrageous like it is on the Las Colinas side. This dominican salon is my new hair home. AND they have a girl that does full sew-in weaves whenever I want to get one. I loved the organic hair care products. I was a little nervous bc I didnt see Design, Motions, Kera Kare, Mizani, etc. But the products they did use were great. Plus I still have my home natural hair care stuff that Im familiar with. Evelyn did an excellent job with grace and patience. She deserved more than a $20 tip but that was all I had to give this time around. My hair was so soft and full of body when I left. Mind you, I already have long hair I just like to take a break and wear a weave ever so often. Terrible.I had an 8 am appointment so did about a 5 other people-mind you there are only 3 stylists... and they didn't open the salon until maybe about 830 bcuz the stylists were all late. The shampoo girl was first to arrive. She kept putting shampoo in my hair too make lather but didn't use enough water. Not entirely sure my entire head got shampooed cause she didn't touch the back if my head. 3 people came out from under the dryer after me but got styled before me. Do not come here unless you have all the time in the world and nothing to do. NEVER AGAIN. I prefer to shave my head. I'm still waiting while writing this review. First experience at YJ Salon, was a horrible experience. I was over charge 20$ for a Dominican blowout that was never refunded back to me. My hair is extremely over processed with heat damage. My hair is natural, I asked stylist several times while doing my hair would my hair go back to its natural state after 2-3 weeks when I wash it. She said yes, "I got this I been doing hair for 8 years". "I know what I'm doing".Clearly she doesn't know what she's doing because my hair is extremely over processed with heat. My hair looks as if I'm transitioning from relaxed hair to natural. After my visit here I am unable to wear my natural hair because half of it's bone straight as if it been relaxed & the other half is puffy/curly. Lots of shedding as well. I've always had very thick hair, now it's thin. I have to keep my hair in a sewin or others protective styles. This is very inconvenient for me as I enjoyed wearing my natural hair. The owner of the salon was suppose to meet me there at 10am Tuesday morning, she never showed up. Keep in mine I live 35 mins away. Not once did I receive a call from her to cancel & reschedule. So, when i got there, I spoke with the stylist that pervious done my blowout & she told me that it was normal for my hair to do that. YJ Salon states "we specialize in all hair types". Clearly, that's false. Long story short, I am highly disappointed with my experience at this salon. Unprofessional & unknowable. The wash tech was good, I must give her credit. I have to find a way to restore my hair, because I am thinking of cutting it all off & starting over. read more

I have given this salon 4 chances. I only get my hair done at Domincan Salons so I am familiar with the products and process. I will give them 2 stars for 3 reasons-hair care, customer service, condition of the salon. All of those are fine. I wont compliant about the fact that it took about 5 hours for just a wash and set because...again... that is to be expected. The problem is the pricing. Everytime you go, YJ makes up a price to charge you. And it's a different price everytime. The final straw was her trying to charge me $110 for a touch-up. GET REAL. Nothing in a Dominican Salon cost $110. And my hair is shoulder length. I left each and every time feeling taken advantage of. If you MUST go, make sure to confirm the price before they start for everything..every conditioner-which you assume comes with the service but its $10 extra. read more

Been there 2 times over the period of 1 year..Never had a conflict in pricing, its always been the same each time for me which is a plus.($55) They will get your hair straight. If you want it to last longer I would recommend the roller set. However the process is a lot of heat and very damaging. The lady that combs your hair and does the roller set rips through your hair with a very small tooth comb. The kind that should not be used in natural curly thick hair. I see her cleaning the hair out the comb( lots of it) I wld recommend bringing your own comb and making her use that. I wouuld recommend requesting heat protectant and asking them to blow it out on a lower temperature setting. When I asked for that my results were still the same although she kept telling me it would not be...No need for the excess high heat. I did receive heat damage the last time I went and noticed a lot of stringy pieces after washing my hair. My curls are also a bit looser. read more

I went to this salon back in September 2014. I loved my technician Yoradi. She was well knowledgeable and knew what to do with my hair. On the other hand, the lady that washed, detangled my hair DID NOT!!! I am not sure of her name but she had no clue what she was doing. While washing my hair she vigorously rubbed my scalp/ hair which in return created lots and lots of TANGLES. I am NATURAL and there is a certain way to wash & detangle natural hair so it doesn't get matted up. You have to be patient and start from the ends and work your way up. After washing my hair it was so tangled and matted up!! The lady started from the roots and just PULLED at my hair until it became untangled. She YANKED and YANKED at my hair & I was just cringing in my seat! I LOST so much HAIR in the process plus she used a very fine toothed comb. I tried stopping her several times to explain how to appropriately detangle my hair but there was a huge language barrier because she did not understand English. One of the other technicians came over to help her but she still continued to pull. PLEASE PLEASE request one of the more experienced ladies to wash and detangle your hair. I lost so much hair & I think I would have had a much better experience if I would have done so. Lesson Learned! read more

I have been going to the salon for just over a year. My hair had been damaged by another salon using harsh chemicals leaving my hair a mess, broken off and dry. Katy is my forever stylist! She is professional and a perfectionist. My hair is healthy, shiny with tons of body and no relaxers were used. My hair has grown several inches. I am even able to get my hair colored with highlights and looks great. The price has never been changed and very reasonable for the quality you will receive. I have always been charged what I was quoted. The wait is normal for any quality salon and well worth it. They take their time to do things right with every customer, something I appreciate when my turn in chair. Was really excited to get my hair done here, my actual appointment was last Saturday November 21st but I called to reschedule for today and I was asked what time did I want to come, I asked what time so they open and I was told 8am, so I said I'll come at 8, my appointment was repeated back to me, I arrived at 7:50am and waited in my car til 8 only to find that the shop was closed. I even waited 20 minutes for someone to arrive. Not sure if I'll be making a future appointment, even though I've heard good things about this salon. read more
