I walked in at about 2 pm and didn't have to wait long before a student came out to greet me and politely introduced themselves and shook my hand. Max, my student stylist, was an absolutely lovely person and he made my styling experience a pleasure. The learning leader came by frequently to offer guidance and I was pleased with my wash, haircut and a beautiful blow out that made my hair look like Farrah Fawcett. Worst manicure ever. Sloppy. Student put on 2 very thick layers. While trying to fix a nail with polish all over the edge she added another thick layer. She was so talented she could text while doing my nails. The supervisor came over and asked her how she was doing and she said "good". The supervisor didn't even look at my nails. For $8, I would have rather bought my own bottle and done a much better job. read more

I had an excellent experience at Paul Mitchell's School Salon. The student who was assigned to me, Zach, was very good. He was very careful to get the details correct. He went the "extra mile" to make sure I was comfortable and that I liked what he was doing. The Instructors are required to supervise them at certain times since they are learning. If there was an opportunity to teach something (like how to style my hair), Zach took his time and made sure that I understood. The price was excellent (although this time I had a Groupon). The everyday prices are about half that of a regular salon. They didn't pressure me to buy products like some of the salons do. They did however show me what Zach used on my hair because I asked. They are always so friendly on the phone when I call. I will be returning. read more

i've been to paul mitchell before but never had a problem... i've always quite enjoyed it every time i went. i always trusted them with my hair but this time was different.. idk what happened but they ( the girl who did my hair AND THE INSTRUCTOR) chopped ALL of my hair off.... I'm not too upset because hair grows back but i just cant believe that they weren't interested in truly getting done what i had asked for... super sweet people and some of them really know what they're doing, but others not so much.. in conclusion i'm just upset that there was a lack of interest in what they're doing, they didn't fade it at all, burned the back of my neck with the clippers, cut all of my beautiful hair off and just overall destroyed my hair and my confidence. read more

All I can say is I used to enjoy go here to get my hair done until yesterday when I had a level 2 stylist her name is Kaylen that ruined it all. She is unable to complete the service you are scheduled for and ask for you to schedule another day to complete them. WRONG!! she disappeared and left color on to where my scalp was burning. then when done washing my hair she expected me to clean off the dye from my face. WRONG that is your job, but she doesn't like touching peoples faces. she should not be a hair stylist. What ever you do don't get Kaylin she will mess everything up and waist your time. I've been to paul mitchell several times for cuts and colors. I need to stop getting my hair cut there. Every time I get my hair cut there, its uneven, choppy, horrible. I went yesterday for a cur and color. The color is great however my hair is uneven everywhere. The back is longer than the front. It's awful. I had a groupon for a color and I was told they dont use groupons on Saturdays however there were 0 restrictions on the groupon. I'm tempted to just never go back. I really enjoyed my haircut there. It took a really long time to get cut because my phase 1 student had never done a cut in the style that I want so she used a lot of help from the Learning Leader. Hard pass on this one. When the school opened, it was pretty fantastic! They always appeared professional, and seems to value each client. You got your scalp massage with treatments, and it was a really great value. As time has gone on though, customer service has been on a sharp decline.Even though I would swear off for 6 months to a year, I always felt ok, give them another chance. Decent value, amazing product,and as all businesses can ebb and flow, you hope to maybe come in on an upswing. But, no. $16 for a haircut, literally a 1/2 in trim strait across my blunt cut hair, and $50 for partial highlights, with a phase 2, because I was hoping she would have confidence in her actions and the knowledge to give me what I asked for. The girl seemed pretty terrified, and didnt know how to trim bangs, so the instructor did it for her. I asked for subtle, natural looking highlights to break up my already color treated hair. I specifically said I do NOT want chunky bright highlights, its not the look Im going for. What I ended up with is non other than big chunky brassy bright highlights that get lighter with every shampoo. they did offer to recolor, for $8 per bowl of product, but like I said ,hard pass. Going back to a professional. Side note, the day I was there was a dress down day where students pay a charitable donation to be able to "dress down" charity=great idea! Execution, not so much. They just looked so, well disheveled, and unkempt. I totally understand tat ripped out jeans are in style, but ripped jeans and ripped graphic tee, looks like someone ran in from the farm to do hair. Also, at my 9 am appointment, I was surprised at the amount of stylists with their hair up in bananas or hats or slicked strait back. But, as the morning wore on, they each took the time to do hair and makeup, so by Noon, they were almost presentable. Keep it classy and professional. AND did I mention it took 4 hours. Im all about the no frills experience, when you leave happy, but this is not it. read more

What an awful day! I went in a blonde and came out with dark brown hair! I wanted my hair dyed to match my existing color. The girls were very nice but the results were terrible. I immediately went back after I saw myself in the mirror at home and asked them to fix it. They did, and did a lovely job, and the girls were very helpful and pleasant but I had to pay additional money to have it repaired and received no offer of refund for the dye job I had paid for but was so wrong. It ended up costing me alot of money, alot of time and significant damage to my hair. Fortunately, my hair color looked nice in the morning but is so dry and damaged; it will take a long time to return to health. read more

OMG!!! My hair is ruined. (Can I give a negative star rating?) I went to this school because I had previously been to TONI and GUY on Central Ave. and they did a great job (GO THERE). Unfortunately for me that morning they were booked and because I was impatient I thought I needed in that day. A friend of ours works as an instructor at the Paul Mitchell school so I decided to give it a shot. (I'm not super picky about my hair I just want it to look good and healthy.) WORST MISTAKE EVER. And sadly that was not my only mistake that day. (Always make sure you read and you agree with everything you sign because even if there is a slight chance it can go wrong you may be SOL). I walked in for my appointment at 10:30 am and filled out informational sheet that I'm sure had tiny writing at the bottom and quickly signed it. I was then paired with a student that I was assured by our friend that was good. Well maybe they thought she was so good that she could do it all on her own and didn't need to listen to instructors. Because when I was at the other school the instructor approved of everything and checked everything before the student could complete it. At Paul Mitchell that is not the case apparently the students are in control and can do what ever they please. I have been trying to grow my hair out and wasn't even sure I wanted a trim. I figured we would see after it was colored how bad I needed it. Well the next thing I know the girl is wetting and cutting my hair. In the past 15 years of having my hair colored I have never had someone cut it before coloring. But, I don't know, I'm not a professional, maybe this is something new they are teaching?? Anyway, surprisingly the cut is not horrible. Next she blow-dried my hair and started to color it. I was having an ombre done, or thats what I thought. The roots are a Dark Brown and the bottoms were being bleached. In hopes of getting a Lighter Brown/Dark Blonde. Well after sitting for well over an hour (which the instructor did casually walk by and say " It's been over an hour bleach shouldn't be on more then 35 min") I was finally rinsed. I wanted a deep conditioning treatment done because after bleaching I always need something to make it soft again. So I had that done. I thought I over heard someone tell her to put me under the dryer for that but again the student didn't listen and it was brushed off. Finally I was going to be dried and styled. I noticed that many of the other students were packing up and getting ready to close. She was told to have another student help dry me. (I have thick, shoulder length hair, and have been tag teamed in salons many times when it comes to drying) However again the student failed to listen. Finally I was done and turned to look at the final product in the mirror and I wanted to cry. My hair was BLONDE/FIRED with DARK roots. It was horrible. (I think that is why they cut it after the color, to cut off the dead/fried ends.) I noticed it was 4:30pm (thats 6 hours at a salon) and my back and butt were killing me from sitting so long. I was so happy to just leave. I paid ($75.00, wish I never would have) and the instructor knew it was bad so she came up to me to tell me I had 2 weeks to call and have it fixed for a charge of product. I got to my car and cried. My husband and I have talked to other stylist who said the Paul Mitchell school should fix that mess no charge or that we should get our money back, they have said my hair is so fried the only thing to do is cut it more. but when we called they want me to wait 2 weeks before getting me in, with another student and will charge me the cost of the color and products used. Adding up to a total cost of more then what I could have paid to have a professional do it in the first place. All because I signed something stating if I didn't like it that is what they would do. When I asked questions about the procedure he was arrogant and overstated his ability. He walked off, and did not come back to finish my hair after leaving me under the dryer for an hour. Went in for a perm. Have had many perms by the Toledo Academy.Never had a bad one. The one got at Paul Mitchell was the worst ever. It has flat spots and is just not right. the girl waswas in a big hurry. Rods came out while the perm was being done she did nothing she did not use all the solution. I cant do a thing with my hair. I would never go back and they charge for every thing as the academy of beauty doesn't not and they are cheaper. It so noisy in the place you leave with a headache. the girls are not well supervised. I had a phase 2 girl as I figured it would be better as they are supposed to be. The girl did not use all the solution which I never have had done with a perm. she was rude if you asked a question. Never called the teacher for a check. or what they charge you can go to a regular beauty shop and get a good cut and perm!!!! read more

This place is horrible! Stay away! The teacher DO NOT KNOW ANYTHING! I went in Because the stylist who cuts my hair does not color and I am sick of doing it myself! There were three different "Instructors" all with different opinions on how to reach the look I wanted. The way I chose was suppose to cost around $42 well supposedly my hair is soooo thick they just had to keep using bowl after bowl and it end up being $74. I have never been charged for extra chemicals and they have only ever had to go back for one more bowl chemicals. The student was also very slow she needed help in which the teacher offered her none. and when it came to rinsing the chemical off my head they need to teach the students it takes longer than a minute DO NOT LEAVE BLEACH ON A PERSON'S HEAD! The whole experience was Bad....I would not recommend it. And Honestly for anyone thinking about going to school there it DID NOT LOOK LIKE THE TEACHERS HAD ANYTHING TO OFFER! read more

This is my first Yelp review. I happened upon this Paul Mitchell beauty school when I came to Toledo to be a part of a bridal party in a wedding. My friend, who was trying to be cost-conscious for her bridal party and herself, decided to book everyone appointments at the school so we could all get a beautification experience without having to spend too much money. When she scheduled the appointments, she was informed that hair and make-up would take about two hours, so she scheduled from 10am-12pm thinking that she would have more than enough time to get to her 2pm wedding. Most of the bridesmaids had several problems ranging from the stylists not using products to protect, smooth, or maintain hair, and having caked-on, terrifying, clown-like make-up. Because this is a beauty school, we thought the stylists would have offered professional "teacher" figures overseeing the hair or make-up application, but there were few in sight, and they held little interest in instructing their students, or truly fixing the gaping problems in the appearance of all members of the bridal party. We partially blame ourselves for our naïveté, which is why I gave this school two stars instead of one. We also partially blame ourselves for staying at the school beyond our two hour slot in an attempt to allow the students to fix their errors, because they can't fix their errors if they do not have instructors who are truly interested in helping them improve their cosmetology practices. The students were, for the most part, sweet, but I wish they had more people to help them improve their craft. read more

I went to this location (3) times from May through early July, each time with Skylar who is wonderful. I have short thin baby fine hair, wish I could show you a picture...do not expect to pay $27 for a basic color - EVER. Somehow the teacher insisted I needed 2 bowls of product and decided to charge me an additional $8 for it regardless of the length of my hair and pre-determined this was my "cost". If the real amount of product had been placed in the bowl, it would have easily covered. 1/3 way through coloring from the bottom up the product was 100% gone from bowl #1, really?!?! Perhaps putting a proper amount of product in the bowl as a teacher and not shorting it would be a great way to run a business. So, another bowl and another $8 and this time we had a lot of leftover which was probably thrown out. I was told this at the beginning and attempted to discuss, I waited 4 weeks for this appointment and it desperately needed done. I told Skylar this was the last time I will be going there if this is how they are going to do business. They also knew they were losing my sister's business as well, guess they could care less. I tried to discuss all of this with the front desk and they said "well, you used 2 bowls the last visit so it has to be correct". I told them I had 2 different colors done the last time for a different look / effect as I was working toward lightening my color which was dark brown originally. It might only be an extra $8.00 each time, however, this is about the principal. They did something similar to my sister on a different visit and her hair is also short. My very 1st visit was Skylar's 1st time coloring hair and we used a single bowl, I returned 1 week later and had to pay another $8 to fix one inch of root area because it was a different color and didn't appear to have been put on long enough. She is a sweetheart and has done a great job for the 2nd & 3rd coloring for my hair. Wow, just wow! Never again!!! Buyer be aware, things are not always what they seem. went here to get my beautiful bob trimmed and some highlights told specifically not to cut off the length or shape of the cut I had done previously, I really emphasized not to take off too short... well these unprofessionally team leaders don't know how to listen!! they lopped of almost 4 inches of my hair that I had grown out for4 months. and ruined the kind of bob Imy hair was designed at from previous stylist.. if your wondering why I just didn't go back to the person who had done the original style...? she left the salon where she worked and left no info on where she went. also pau; pitchell did some hightlights that I had requested in a particular style and they basically weaved the highlights all over my hair which I specifically told them that I did not want that kind of look at the beginning of their stupid consult!! thia place is a disaster!! the student that was SUPPOSE to be doing the work really never even did the cut...the learning lesder(teacher) decided to take it upon herself to do it.. then another teacher came and got involved and then cut my hair some more.. they ALL were told by me not to cut and change my style of bob. do not go here for anything these people cant understand what the customer is telling them they just do what they want!! so now I have short hair and a butt ugly bob.. and I have to totally change my style with another stylist somewhere else..BEWARE PEOPLE!!! idid have a really good deep conditioning treatment for cheaper than anywhere else and that is the only thing you should get here.. or maybe a $5.00 manicure? but I would be very leery of even that...and it took them 4 hours to ruined my hair!!! ridiculous!!!
