As a passerby this building catches your attention--hard to miss the colorful mural above the corner entrance, arched windows, glass dome and ornate wrought-iron filigree balcony balustrades with gold accents. It's difficult to walk by without taking a look inside, and I'm glad that I did! The inside is even better than the outside, with elaborate Art Nouveau chandeliers, murals, and such a novel romantic atmosphere. There is a coat check though depending on what time of day you're there it could be manned or unmanned, similar to the cafe entrance where it may take a while to get the waitstaff's attention. Taking a look at the menu they serve a variety of coffee and tea drinks $4.80-5.80, entrees mostly in the $23-30 range and cakes about $8/slice. The also have breakfast items between $10-$16. Coming from NYC this doesn't feel too extravagant though I'm aware NYC is just expensive in general and these prices are higher than some other similar places in Prague. I got a piece of chocolate cake 149Kc and an espresso 99Kc and they were ok, nothing to write home about. If you happen to catch the piano player on an afternoon or evening this really adds to the nice ambience. Unfortunately staff attitudes could use some improvement, they seem both aloof and pretentious and at the same time unclear of how this would come off negatively to impact their tips. So I guess the conclusion is--visit at your own risk! Might be worth it to experience the ambience though expect to pay little more and deal with potentially impolite staff.

The tomato soup was acidic bc it's quite plain...literally tomatoes smashed up. It want bad, just not what we were expecting. The festive bread was good, a thick slice of bread with a heap of potato salad, covered in cheese and salami. Quiche was ok, could use salt. Not a bad afternoon snack, but not a place I'd go back to on this trip.
