Direct Auto Insurance is perceived as dishonest by some customers. I have been with them for over a…read moreyear and recently received a better offer from another insurer. I had just entered a renewed policy with them, making an initial payment of $155. On the same day, I received a more competitive quote from my group auto insurance at work and attempted to cancel with Direct Auto. To my surprise, I was only eligible for a $6 refund for the one week I was covered. They do not disclose the amount of their cancellation fee or what they refer to as "short rate provisions contained in our manuals" upfront, nor when you decide to cancel. I feel as if I lost $149. I have resolved to never purchase any insurance from them again and intend to persuade others to steer clear of this company. They engage in practices that could be considered unscrupulous and should be held accountable.

Aside from the actual coverage amounts for the rented dwelling, I ask very specific questions of the associates concerning moving insurance. They assured me that those things were covered... So I signed the policy for 6 months. After the movers came and delivered my belongings, I discovered missing items, damaged items, damage to the hardwood floors in the rental that per specific language in the rental agreement, I'm responsible... I filed a claim and not given to someone local, but rather some desk jockey 600 miles away that had no intention of taking an accurate damage claim... rejected everything that I was told to be covered... *******Long story short...
