A great low key spot to get a nice shave. Not crowded and very relax. Plus they open up early for those who just want to be in and out.

Nice place. Paul is the owner and that is the only person working here. So he has the place all to himself. He's quick and friendly. He's about as good as they come. The shop was a little bit quiet for my liking. A little more volume on the music would go along way towards breaking the tension. But, once you get past that, it's a great experience. Paul's Barber Shop is kind of like old school barbering w/ a bit of an update...pretty cool shop with 1940's chairs, stations & a 1900's cash register that goes "CHA-Ching" when you check out. Standard with your $12 cut is a warm lather neck shave. There are only two chairs in the shop. However, you move through at a decent speed. The barbers aren't so fast that you feel like you went through a production line. But, they aren't so slow that you have to wait forever for your turn. This is good barbering with barbers who listen to what you want in a haircut. I recommend. read more

Came in the day before Thanksgiving for a trim. The shop was swamped with pre-holiday folks wanting to look sharp for the holiday. There were 7 folks ahead of me, and another 5-6 came in after me. I didn't feel that I waited long at all. I got a great haircut at a very good price. (Same cut's 6$ more at Sports Clips) The decoration is a really cool blend of antique barber signage, a billiards table (that you can play while waiting), TV's, Barber chairs from the 50's, and a beautiful antique oak professional shoe shine chair on its stand (like you'd have seen in airports back when people dressed up to fly), overall just a cool vibe. I had been traveling 15 miles for a haircut, now I will only have to drive a couple. Great experience! read more

I walked in at around 4:45 pm today, and there was a line ahead of me. Typically a good sign at a barbershop. I watched the barber cut about 3 or 4 heads before he got to me and he did a great job on all of them. I'm not sure what went wrong with me. I told him I wanted a fade with some off the top, and he went to work. He gapped the shit out of my bangs, which isn't a big deal...if you fix it. Not only did he not fix it(he knew what he did) but he let me pay him my hard earned money and then walk around like this. Now instead of just one haircut, I have to go find someone else who can hopefully fix this without making me look like I walked out of American History X. I drove 45min from Columbia. the atmosphere on the internet was just like southern gentleman and all the other " old school" barbershops. Paul only used clipper to comb technique. I asked for a trim and got the standard "shave to hard part" #2 all the way up to the part then regular long hair. I was looking at a wall the entire time Until completed and "there you go" no mirror check or anything. I was disappointed for sure for the px/ great clips style haircut . The biggest disappointment was getting home and washing my hair to see the part was making an intersection with my natural/ previous part. Thanks for nothing Paul. read more

Paul has a really interesting shop with a pool table. It is in a strip mall near Time Warner Cable on Platt Springs Road. He sells double bladed razors and Clubman products such as moustache wax. What makes the shop even more unique is the hot lather shave. One can get a beard trim, complete shave, or a haircut. You won't spend more than what I've paid at Great Clips or Smart Style at Wal-Mart for a cut, and as far as I have seen you won't wait behind six people either. I think this is just because it is in Springdale, which is a quiet little suburb of Columbia. read more

Yesterday was my first time walking into Paul's and I immediately felt like I was at home. The "real" barber shop feel that he has is incredible. On top of that, Paul is a friendly down to earth man who is just a pleasure to be around. I've lived in the south for 9 months now moving from Chicago and this was the first time that my haircut and shave were EXACTLY as I wanted them! Just finished getting a handsome cut from Ryan at Pauls Barber Shop. The service struck a perfect balance of expediency and also making for an 'experience' that I didn't feel rushed in. The shop itself is nice, has an old school feel (pool table, barbering jackets) and also has a TV showing the news (thankfully not Fox News). In the end, the haircut was great and Ryan made it look very clean and professional even while impressively free-handing the fade. Most un-even haircut I have ever received. "Taper" is not even layered. Spent 20 minutes in the back without delivering what was asked for. Did not layer the top like asked for. Simply cut the way he thought my hair should be cut. Never going back. read more
