I've only been in this bar twice and both times it was a treat. The reason for the infrequent visits is that the bar is quite far out of the center of town. To be honest, now that i'm getting older I can see myself hanging out here more often as it's not full of creeps and sl@gs as other city center bars. Both times I have been in this bar i have only been downstairs though I am aware that there is a thriving upstairs pool hall and gig-a-torium on the second floor. I've been in during Autumn time when its been cold outside and we have stumbled in on the way back from a rugby match at Raven Hill. Both times I recall excellent food, a great, dark and cosy atmosphere with plenty of criac from fellow patrons and staff. I seem to recall an open fire? I'm heading here again in a few weeks for a post match pint so if things have changed any I will let you know.

It was only recently that I actually ventured into this establishment for a drink and for a gig. The building has several floors, the ground floor being the main bar and a music venue upstairs and it is run by the same people who run Lavery's in town. I would think mainly local bands would play there and not that many big names. I also noticed a couple of pool tables, so its definitely a spot to go with friends and have a good time. I went to school right beside this bar and I remember walking out on fridays to get the bus home and it would already be buzzing with people beginning their weekend. Not much has changed the locals love it and inhabit it every weekend, its a bit out of the way if you don't live local. Its had recent renovations which definitely heighten its appeal. I would definitely go there again.

I really like The Pavilion for its relaxed vibe, good food and assortment of events including bands, comedy nights and pub quizzes. It also boasts a pool room, rooftop garden and screened sports events. Not a genteel pub but more of a rough round the edges, chilled, relaxed place. A very good bar.

Rough and ready place used by a wide range of people. Comedy gigs, football etc. They also do beer football promotions.

    Pavilion bar spicy chump burger

Went into here today with my friend we got a burger each and a pint, got a burger which was supposed to be spicy chump burger with garlic sautéed potatoes, the burger patty itself was thick and full of meat and had a nice chump steak flavour, quite moist , although I didn't get the 'spicy' part of the burger , which was stated , had a nice floury bap and the burger was topped off with sweet onions which was lovely and smoked cheese, I didn't taste the cheese much but all in all it was a nice burger, the garlic sautéed potatoes were nice although I had to get to the bottom of the bowl to get to the garlic butter, I think the potatoes could have been more flavoured but they were nice though. I would probably go back again.

We always pop in here before going across the road to Gaze for a bite to eat, and it has a lovely feel, this bar. It's a real mixed crowd, very sociable and relaxed, and the bar itself is very comfortable. We get so settled in here sometimes that we don't want to leave. It's a beautiful red bricked Victorian building with some 'old world' charm, and they really plan for their clientele here, and in particular look after the smokers since the ban, as they've set up an outside terrace area and an area out front with plasma screens and covered seating so that the smokers don't miss any of the football action or music when they are outside - sometimes there is more craic outside than there is inside! There is never too long to wait at the bar, and you also have the choice of two bars, downstairs and upstairs, where they sometimes have live music or comedy acts performing. A good night out for all.

Firstly I thought that on a Friday afternoon that the place would be rammed and I'd have to wait an age to get ripped in to those tiny, tender poultry pieces but I was wrong I walked in ordered at the bar and less than 15 minutes later I was presented with a wooden bowl of 33 glazed buffalo wings - all for £8.95! The price was good and the wings did live up to the hype but I wouldn't say they were earth shattering. There was just the right amount of glaze but the wings themselves lacked meat. Yesterday's visit to The Hudson reaffirmed how good the bar is in my eyes - it's such a jack of all trades - serves a whole host of different beers - I had the Sam Adams, something that you don't see too often in Belfast. It really is the perfect place to garb some wings and have a beer on a Friday afternoon.

I am the wrong side of 30 after all. OK, 40. God knows how but a few weeks ago I ended up upstairs in the Bot after a few gins to many with dinner in the Barking Dog. It seemed like a top idea to dance like an complete $%^& among the 17 and 18 year olds. I should have known better when I heard the guy taking money at the door talking about his A level choices. So we parted with our £5 each just to get in. The cheek of it. For this we were rewarded with cheesy music, sticky floors and nowhere to sit. Did it put us off? Heck no. We had a total blast and managed to blank out the pitying looks from the people who were young enough to be there. We paid over the odds for unchilled wine, downed it as if it was the finest chablis and danced out little eldery socks off. Fantastic. The Bot is unsophisticated, unpretentious and a great place to really let your hair down. I believe there may have been a DJ, out couldn't swear to it in court. What I do know for sure is that we had a great time with a jovial crowd, no hint of trouble whatsoever. The large bar had the full range of beer, cider, alcopops and cocktails and despite the crowds, service was quick. We were finally kicked out about 1.30am which means the bar closed at 1.00am. Then it was on to the Kremlin. But that's a whole other review.....

I'm not a massive fan of the venue. I liked to get dressed up on a Saturday night and the Basement doesn't really suit that. The dance floor is too small and located in between the bar and the door, so I don't think any real atmosphere gets going in this place. The bar is fine and well equipped and the last time I was there Smirnoff were giving out free flavoured vodkas. I think if the Basement glammed up its act a bit and got a bit of a refurbishment it might scrub up well.
