Darryl saved my family. We were on the verge of getting rid of one of our dogs. Did Darryl come in with a small compressed air can and a CO2 fire extinguisher, yes. He was there to address my big dogs fighting and it was for safety precautions. Did I question him about them and the bad reviews, yes. I believe these people really know what they are doing. However, you need to read both their website and their contract very carefully, and follow their instructions exactly or you will forfeit any remaining training benefits. In our case, my wife used a buzzing collar rather than the air corrector spray they recommended. As a result, Pawfection said we violated the contract were no longer entitled to the second in-home training session that was part of our package. So ... we paid $727 for a two hour powerpoint presentation, a can of compressed air, and a 2-minute exercise to stop our dogs running to the front door when the doorbell rang. Did we break the "rules?" Yes. Are they within their legal rights to terminate the agreement without providing further services? Yes. Do I think their actions constitute good customer service and a fair and reasonable business practice? No I do not. When our dog makes a mistake we don't get rid of her, we correct her and continue with the training. I wish Pawfection had shown us the same consideration. read more

RESPONSE TO OWNER'S REPLY - I appreciate the response to my review below. There is a difference between laughing because something is funny and laughing because it made you uncomfortable. Not everyone will speak up when something like that happens either. It also shows character doubting my job (professor not tutor by the way). None of your concepts are over my head, I assure you. Including something that was unprofessional is not padding, it is part of the experience reviewed. "We fix your problem often in one session" and "We fix things fast without pain and punishment and then you have us on speed dial with immediate help when you need it" are directly from your website. It may be more accurate to say that you provide tools to help pet parents fix problems more quickly than may be achieved with other training programs (although unsure of this since we have no basis for comparison). And there is no immediacy to response as we have not received answers to the first questions we texted you about, leash training or the list of recommended items. I was actually going to take notes during the PPT but was told it wasn't necessary because I'd receive a text with all of them. The only thing that was addressed from my texts was the increase in price (which, by the way was my follow up text). I responded to the explanation that I understood and dropped that topic entirely. This doesn't change the fact that we still weren't informed it was going to increase. You contradict your own response in saying that the only communication we have had with you is about the change in price when you also acknowledge that we asked questions ("we immediately went back to answer questions on the next day" and "Oddly the only communication we had from this reviewer was to question the cost"). I think it is safe to say that we just clearly had something different in mind in terms of training and felt our review a fair assessment of what we perceived as the value of the product for the price. I take full responsibility for not doing more research, reading reviews and/or asking more questions about what to expect during training. ORIGINAL REVIEW - For the price, we did not gain much in terms of actual "training" of our puppy. The 2 hour powerpoint was interesting but probably information we could have obtained from the internet for free. The practical training portion consisted of scaring our dogs with a fire extinguisher, encouraging us to get a shock/vibration collar and a "pet corrector" spray as well as a plethora of other toys and things for the puppy to play with. We had to ask about things like potty training, basic commands, etc and the advice given was stuff we were already doing like treats and taking the puppy out frequently. I think we were expecting something more revolutionary since they offer a lifetime of support. When I texted with questions, I was told they'd get back to us in a couple days. Fair enough as it is a weekend, but they did say to text any time. On another note, I personally endured the offensiveness of the male trainer when I was counting out cash to pay our over $800 bill and he asked me "how's the pole dancing going"...it was unprofessional, insulting, and honestly did not need to be said. I work a food service job PT where I make tips but the presumptuousness of his statement was ignorant and uncalled for. It made me not want to have him back in my home again. Our family was having such a difficult time with our one-year old bernadoodle. He was so loving but had so many bad habits we couldn't break (jumping, guarding, peeing in the house, chewing EVERYTHING). We hired the amazing trainers at Pawfection. We had done the group classes (also amazing) but those are designed for outdoor obedience as opposed to behaviors in the house. Our Chewie was great listening outside after attending the group classes, but inside was a different ballgame. The trainer came to the house and spent a considerable amount of time training US (which we definitely needed) before incorporating our fur baby into the mix. She spent so much time with us making sure we understood how only HOW to execute the various techiques utilized, but more importantly, made sure we thoroughly understood WHY those techniques were effect. After just a few days, we have a completely different dog. I am SHOCKED at how quick and effective Pawfections techniques are. If you are having any issues with your fur baby, call them. I had a great experience training my dog Justice with Pawfection. -In Home Training- Darryl came to my house and were able to resolve the issues I was having with him jumping up on people and trying to dash out the door. The presentation was filled with useful information and I appreciated the tips on how to wear my dog out through games, which really helped when Hurricane Irma hit and he couldn't go outside quite as often as he was used to! He has been doing great with the food recommendations. -Group Training- I had a great experience at group training with my dog. He was terrified to do any of the agility training at first but eventually learned to love everything except the small curved tunnels. I got him as a rescue but if I had him from a puppy I'm sure he would have grown to love it. I eventually did have to stop going to the group training. It was so hot In the summer and my dog is absolutely afraid of water. He wouldn't go in the pools of water they have out to cool down and would eventually just settle into the dirt, tuckered out with half of the class remaining. Overall I had a great experience with both types of training and would urge you to ignore a lot of the reviews here. I've trained multiple dogs with Pawfection and have learned a lot from Darryl, Penny and their team. I have large dogs. it is my responsibility to see that they are well trained and that any aggressive tendencies are handled. Darryl and Penny have taught me how to do that. I am constantly complimented on my dogs behavior. As I was walking them the other day, two large dogs broke through their their backyard gate and charged my dogs barking and growling. It could have been a very bad event, but, my dogs are well trained (thank you Darryl, Penny, Ellen and Nicole). I told mine to "leave it" and "sit". We stated with the Pawfection's family shortly after rescuing our dog Fletcher. Fletcher was used as a bait dog and was very fearful of other dogs and pretty much everything. This became a bigger issue when my youngest son would walk him after school and Fletcher would pull to go home or get scared and try to run. He's was already a big dog and knew he would get bigger. Darrell and his team allowed my son to do the training with the dog giving them both time to bond and for my son to be recognized as a master. After just weeks of training Fletcher was no longer tugging, went on two doggy play dates (where he had a blast playing!) and was over all a much better behaved dog. This style of training (lots of agility) didn't seem like it was going to work for obedience but it really does! It allows the dogs to feel useful, have a job and furthers the master/dog bond. I allowed my 8 week golden pup to start puppy training with this company. What an amazing experience. We continued with training for approximately six months. Not only did my pup learn manners and socialization, but it was an amazing bonding experience for us. My pup learned to trust me and follow my directions. This is really frustrating for me, and has taken a long time for me to feel alright posting. I have a dog whom I really love. His previous home didn't treat him the way they should have, and with that he's always dealt with fear aggression. It was a slow build up to the point where it was hard to have anyone over because he'd growl defensively and sometimes even approach other guests. I heard about pawfection and was eager to invest in something that might help my dog out- before finalizing the appointment, because I get by paycheck to paycheck, I inquired about for second opinions-- I was told by an employee somewhere respectable in how they take care of animals that going through these people would be a waste of money- she explained to me that they come into your home and teach you how to use a noise sprayer- nothing more. I called pawfection and explained to them my love for my dog and my lack of financial cushion- I told them what I was informed, and asked that if it was true to please just let me know. I was assured repeatedly she was dishonest, and that companies like hers and other establishments that handle the care of animals smear their name because they feel threatened by their success. They seemed honest and passionate, so I booked the appointment. This, for me, was costly so you can maybe imagine how shook and upset I was internally when the bulk of the appointment involved a can of air, and how to use it. I hung my head low for the majority of the meeting; I felt used and lied to and manipulated by them. They tested the can out, and did it work? It scared my dog to death, and sent him underneath the couch so in a way yes- but it instilled more fear in my fear aggressive dog, and it didn't feel very progressive at all. They left, and when we had to- we used the can of air. It was all we were taught, and like I was warned about, the entirety of the process. After a while, my dog grew used to the can of air, to the extent that it was no longer affective. I was told if any issues arose, to call them and they'd come back out happily- This is the honest truth, and hardest part of all of this: I called and I called and I called, then finally after what felt like weeks and weeks someone picked up- I believe she was the co-founder and wife of the man who lied to me about what I was warned of initially. She wasn't just rude to me in regards to my problem, she attacked me and made me feel stupid. I'm a very calm person, and maintained a quiet understanding tone the entirety of the conversation where i simply asked for someone to come back out and maybe help with other potential solutions. Finally, after berating me she hung up the phone and I was never able to get through again. I have no reason to lie... this was my experience. It's something I've had a lot of trouble getting over, and something I've been very nervous to post, afraid they'd attack me even more and write me off as another person trying to smear their name, when that's not the case at all. They need to be held accountable for how they treat and manipulate their clients. It broke my heart, because I love my dog to death and while on the surface they seem like passionate, caring animal lovers their actions justify the assumption that their real love is for the money they garner off of their false promises. Harsh? Perhaps, but like I've said- I was very affected by my treatment from these people and finally feel able to speak up. read more

We are the third owners of a beautiful, stubborn, hardheaded Labrador Retriever - that was only 20 months old when we adopted him. Pawfection made an amazing and immediate impact on a failing dynamic in our home with our two dogs. We have two male dachshunds who could not be in the same room with each other without fighting. All they do is take your money. They do not explain what the classes are or what your dog will be learning. They do not teach you or your dog anything. Then they bash other dog trainers and kick you out of their group if you use other trainers to actually teach your dog, saying "it will confuse the dog". Then as I was being kicked out, I asked Penny to send me an email to verify that she would no longer be charging my credit card and she said we don't do that but I "promise" I won't charge your card. My puppy started in the puppy class and has done great with the agility training, but I felt he needed a more personal approach when he became a rebellious teenager at six months. We have been training our dog with Pawfection for a year now, and couldn't be more pleased! We started out with a home session because our cute little puppy had grown teeth and was attacking our feet and legs and ripping our pant legs. She was a 5-pound "Cujo!" We were frustrated and ready to give the puppy back. Darryl came to our home, and by the end of the session, she was a different dog! We were quickly able to address the growling and biting, and in addition, Darryl gave us countless tips on everything from nutrition to how to entertain and tire our pup out! When he left, we said, "Wow! That was amazing!" When Kona was old enough, we began doing the group training on Saturdays, even though it's a 90-minute drive from home. We had no idea how fearful she was with other dogs, until we brought her to class. She was terrified! By the 6th week of puppy class, Kona was running around playing with the other dogs! Above everything, the Pawfection classes helped us to give Kona the socialization with people and other dogs, as well as exposure to novel experiences and activities that helped build her confidence and strengthened the bond we were forming with our puppy! At 14 months old, Kona is a delight! She loves all people and animals and we can take her anywhere and feel confident that she will behave and be sweet. We still drive 90-minutes every Saturday to Pawfection group classes, mostly because she LOVES it!!! She's still a sassy, spazzy puppy who still has things to learn. Even an awesome dog can be better! She has so much FUN at class, and so do we! Pawfection is ALWAYS there for us to solve any issues that have arisen as Kona matured from puppy, to teenage, to almost an adult dog! Here are some very specific examples of how our training with Pawfection has been crucial: 1. One day my husband was really "out of it" after a long, sleepless stretch of work. He accidentally let Kona out of the car without a leash. Of course she started running toward the very busy road! I was able to use the "emergency stop" that we practice in class, and was able to get to her and hook up her leash. This very well may have saved her life! 2. Last weekend, we went to a restaurant that asked us to hold her collar and walk her through the restaurant to their back (overflow) patio. Somehow she slipped her collar in the middle of the restaurant! Can you imagine? I panicked with visions of our dog ripping a steak off someone's plate or tripping a server carrying a tray full of food! I worried for nothing! We were able to make her stay while we quickly got her hooked back up! And only 1-2 people even noticed our little mishap! Thank goodness for her training! 3. This one touches me the most! Last month, as we were heading out to our car, our neighbor's dog was loose and charged at Kona and viciously attacked her in our front yard! It took 4 adults to pull the other dog off of her! She had several deep and bleeding bite wounds! We were completely traumatized! My husband left a message for Pennie at Pawfection, and she immediately called us and offered advice and support! She and Darryl followed up with a plan to slowly reacquaint her with other dogs. My worst fear was that this would set her back to being terrified of other dogs, or even triggering fear aggression. Again, I worried for nothing! Under the skilled and gentle guidance from Darryl, Pennie, Nicole, Pam, and Ellen, Kona is happier than ever to see her friends at class every week! No dog or human is perfect. But Pawfection and their meticulous, individualized training methods have helped tremendously, especially in sticky situations that never could have been predicted or planned for! We are very thankful we found Pawfection when we did! As a result, we have a strong bond with our fantastic pup! We will continue to drive the 90-minutes each way to and from "puppy class," because the learning is valuable, and it's so, so much fun! Our first dog had major fear aggression issues! We tried 2 different companies for group training and did weekly in-home sessions with an independent trainer. The issues got worse, not better. Our vet recommended an in-home visit with Dr Terry Curtis, a dog behaviorist Veterinary Professor from the University of Florida. She drove the 2.5 hours from Gainesville and then refused to meet our dog in person because he barked at her! We paid her triple what Darryl charges, and the only useful thing we got out of it was a prescription for Prozac for our dog! If only we had found Pawfection and Darryl sooner! That dog could have had such a different life! Darryl's experience and expertise far surpasses anyone we have ever worked with! Thank goodness, we are getting it "right" this time around with Kona! Very disappointed. I don't have a lot of money but I heard a lot of good things about Pawfection so I saved and had an in home training session . My dog was abused and had no previous training. One in home training session was hardly helpful. I recently tried to get in touch with Pawfection for follow up help but received no response. So now I'm saving again to try to get my dog the type of training he needs. I think as professionals they should have known one in home session would not be sufficient. I think they should have done an assessment of what my dogs needs were and made a recommendation for the proper training. Instead they took my money and ran. UPDATE I am the customer. Yes I did sign the receipt saying I was satisfied. Let's be realistic. How satisfied or dissatisfied could I be after just a couple of hours? Yes it was April22nd . The same day , after training , my car was hit by someone who ran a red light and the following week I was in the hospital. I did follow your recommended training. Unfortunately Charlie became increasingly fear aggressive. The past months I've been working with my vet to get him on a medication to help ease his anxiety. It's helped a little but he continues to be fear aggressive. The vet recommended behavioral training which is why I reached out for your help on October 6. I think if you have a business it would be a good idea if you leave an " out of office " message if you aren't going to be available for your clients. Also i only just heard back today ( two weeks since my call but less than 24 hours of my review ) . I would like to add you responded to my review BEFORE you reached out to find out what I did wrong . I have been doing everything I can to get Charlie the help he needs to be a happy dog. I have been injured many times . I've spent hours reading and working with the vet and working on his training. My review... Pawfection might be ok or even great if all you need is to teach your dog manners and tricks but if your dog has behavioral issues Id look elsewhere. Behavioral training for Charlie wasn't even mentioned. But I guess it might take more than a couple of hours to realize that's what he needs. Also I think if you get a prong collar , pet corrector and an e collar and follow the directions you can train your dog yourself Pawfection does not fix your dogs behavior. I would give them 0 star, if I can!!! I DON'T RECOMMEND ANYONE GOING TO THEM. Penny is rude and racist and just want to take your money and be done with it. She fights with you and attacks you, when you are just talking to her and asking questions. Because you thought they are the "professionals", of course you would have questions, of course you would like to learn more about how to best help your puppy, of course you would want to learn about their approach before your put your pup through it, of course you would want to hear their professional opinions about how to train your dog, what's the best for your dog. But they are not the right person. At least Penny is DEFINITELY NOT THE RIGHT PERSON!! Four weeks ago, I contacted Darryl hoping to learn more about their training and get my 9 months pup enrolled in their class. He told me to come back next Saturday 10 am and bring my dog, so he can have a look and tell me more about the training. The next Saturday, I got there at 9:30am and told Penny that I talked to Darryl last week, he told me to come early. Penny straight up told me that my pup has aggressive issue and need a home training session (about $300). She asked me if my pup barks at home. I didn't know it was a bait, I was just being honest, so I said, "Hmmm, yeah, sometimes he barks at people walking outside, especially when he says other dogs." Then, Penny says, "see, he has aggressive issue, that need to be switched off. You will need a home training session." But interestly, the whole time as we were standing in the dog park, there has to be at least 15 all kinds of dogs and their owners. But my pup didn't bark once and didn't show any aggressive sign. So I said, "I'm not sure about the home training. I just want to learning more about the group training for now. And I want to see if it's the right thing for my dog." Hearing that, Penny just walked away, talking to other owners, didn't explain to me about the training at all. I saw her walked away, felt a bit strange, but I thought maybe she's busy, plus Darryl probably will come and check my dog and explain the training. SO I waited and waited and waited. From 9:30 am to 10 am, to 10:30 am, until the training classing is starting. Darryl never come to talk to me. Penny never come back. I saw the class is almost starting. I felt the rush and I don't want to miss the class, since I already brought my dog all the way there and I do want to get him some training. So I went to find Penny and asking, "What do I do now? She straight up told me that, "You have to pay for 6 classes today. We can't allow you come this week and not next week. You have to come every Saturday in the next 6 weeks." I wasn't comfortable with her cold and a bit rude tone. But the class is starting... Fast forward, we went there for 3 weeks. It was a bit rough at the beginning, my dog wasn't getting the training. The first 2 weeks, he almost didn't do any of the ramp or tube because he's a bit scared. And because he was taking a long time to do it, EVERYTIME the trainer will just ask us step away. So basically for the first 2 weeks, we just paid more than 20 bucks just to stand in the dog park. But last week, aka the 3rd week, he did a great job, starting to get use to the training. So on our way going there this week, I was pretty happy, was really looking forward to it. They promotes prong collar. Which I was a bit skeptical at the beginning. To be honest it looks pretty scary with the pointy prongs. But I decided I want to try it. But I wasn't sure about the fitting. So I brought it to ask for their opinions. When we got there, they were putting up a tent for shading. One of the trainer said hi and greeted us pretty excited. I was also excited and said hi back. And also I was saying, "heyy, we finally got the prong collar, can you check if it's too tight?" I know they were in the middle of putting up the tent, I didn't mean to get in the way. Penny saw us, and yelled at me with an angry face, " can you move your dog over there?" I didn't want to cause any trouble, so I dragged my dog away. I stand in the other conner, a bit awkward and embarrassed. Finally they finished the tent, Penny and trainer walked towards us. Penny squat down and approached my dog really fast and my dog tried to turn his head to avoid her. My dog is not comfortable with strangers. He's a guard dog. Penny stands up and says," I need you to leave. Get your dog a muzzle. He's aggressive. I can't have him in the class." I was like whaaat???? Remember at this point, we have already went to the class 3 times. She continues, "I don't care. Your dog tried to bite me. It's not included in my insurance. You have to leave now and get your dog a muzzle." So just like that, she sent us away. I don't know what else to say. I'm extremely not happy with my experience. read more

Absolutely impressed with this company! In a few short hours we learned a lot. We had one dog we could not take for walks at all - he literally would pull my husband and I with two leashes almost to the ground - now I can walk him by myself with no struggle! He absolutely loves it and we do too! My other dog is also doing great and is getting better with his dog aggression and it is a work in progress. The trainer made it clear that you have to do your homework in order to successful - they are not magicians but they give you the right information to work with and they are a phone call away if you need more instruction! Our dogs were out of control barking and biting. We had to restrain them when any visitor came into the house. We walked them twice a day and they would go crazy barking at motorcycles, bicycles, pedestrians, dogs, and cats. On several occasions they pulled out of their harness and ran to pedestrians and bit the back of their legs. We thought it was hopeless as we had already used a different trainer who basically told us that one of the dogs would probably be OK but the other one would have to take drugs to get her to calm down. That all changed once we called Pawfection on a neighbors urging. Our dogs are so well behaved now after ONE visit! They are a pleasure to walk, instead of looking at a cyclist or a pedestrian or a dog they look to us to guide them and for us to protect them since they now know they do not need to protect us!!!! read more

We have been working with Pawfection since our labradoodle was just 3 months old. After puppy class, which was a great way to get her socialized and learn to be confident in the agility equipment, we continued with the beginner class and really focused on obedience while still having fun with agility. We jumped at the chance to become certified for therapy and are working our way through the class. Therapy training is intensive and requires a time commitment, something that is made clear before you get started. We have access to the entire training team, and every time we take the dogs out people are smiling and excited to meet them, totally worth it for me and my dog. There is no other program like this with such high standards. These are experts.
