They would not let me leave a no star review thats the only reason they have a 1 star. Concerns- Call in 4 times a months to fix issues or constantly ask them in they can do their 1 job - Run payroll..... As a small business this is a waste of time and resources. (They act as if running payroll is a favor) There phone system is a joke you are assigned a "payroll specialist" that holds the keys to your account that you will NEVER hear back from. All calls route to their voicemail unless you manipulate the call directory to talk with a representative that can help. After solving issues with system and representative if you get through to someone the issue you "fixed" is fixed that one time and not updated or changed permanently I will state that after you do get a repersenative on the line the staff is nice and accommodating and wants to help but in most cases cannot. They are just not equipped with the right tools to do their job. The company structure is awful making the entire experiance horrible. read more

After canceling and without my authorization they ran reports and are now charging me for said reports. I absolutely loathe a day I decided to sign up for Paychex to handle my company's payroll needs. In the beginning, I had ONE employee, he lived in Philadelphia another time. I had Paychex set up all my accounts and everything they needed from day one. Here you are years later and they still can't get it right. Since Feb 2025 my employer and myself have contacted Paychex to get a corrected W-2. They stated 5 weeks it takes for a corrected W-2 to be sent. It's May 14th and still nothing. You can't even talk to anyone at Paychex they tell you to email your account rep because they don't work in an office. They are by far the worst payroll company I have ever encountered. Don't walk - run from this company! Polite by email but our rep never added the new director nor controller after 5 months. They just forwarded emails which then bounced back to them as it was their responsibility. When you want ti change things customer service will always send you back to your rep even if they are unresponsive. Paychex's customer service representatives are polite but are not responsive or knowledgeable!!! I have been using them for years and they honestly suck and the hassle of dealing with the communication is terrible. Nobody reads emails and the specialists are out of office almost daily. They have over-drafted my account more than once. They ran payroll 2x in one day this week again and now my account as received fees and the specialist still can't get it right to return the correct full amount. I am so over this company. Attempted to speak with customer support as I have worked for 3 locations with the same company, but are considered separate entities. Even with the same SSN, they are not able to add the other locations without approval for a W-2 and their payroll is constantly screwed up. Frustrating to say the least, but nobody does anything to solve the situation and consistently pass the buck. My employer uses Paychex. They set me up wrong so it wasn't accruing time off for me and letting me ask for time off. It took a while to resolve, but their lack of attention to detail from the start (initially I also couldn't see my paystubs!) is incredible. Again, if a "no star" review was possible....This company double filed one of our quarters and did not ever resolve it for us. WE had to resolve THEIR mistake. Also, we quit using them, they charged us for two additional months, and then put us in collections over those months. When we did not pay they would not give us our reports. They are sketchy and I would not recommend doing business with them. We use PAYCOM now. They are LESS EXPENSIVE and so much BETTER! read more

If you have a lot of time to waste then this company may be good for you. They make it appear like they have all these great services, & online tools etc and yet fail miserably short when it comes to customer service & technical support! I have spent more than an 1-1/4 hours trying to get technical support to assist with some minor changes i did not know how to make. After many transfers, talking with people who were "willing" but lasked the skiil and wanted to just try and muddle through trying to figure it out. (BIG waste of my valuable time) What i expect and pay for is to work with a company with knowledgable people to make this process, easy, efficient, and accurate. If you are looking for this then be careful. I had also worked with their Insurance arm which touts itself as one big Paychex familty-NOT After one year and many things not being done as we requested we went somewhere else and are pleased with did. As a business owner my time is too valuable to deal with this stuff. On an upside note the Client Services Payroll specialist was very good. read more

I was a sole proprietor. This company overwhelmed me with fees. Big mistake -I also set up a 401k plan with them and have spent hours after closing my business and administrative account with them attempting to get a distribution of my funds. Everything must be done on line. I had problems with a secret question answer and can get NO help to resolve it. They have terrible customer service and excessive surprise fees coming at you from all directions. I felt scammed and still am until I can figure out how to get my own money!! read more

I have had nothing but problems that past 1.5 months. They do not pay attention to pay dates (submitted 9/15 payroll on 9/13 but paid 9/29). Then they didn't issue 9/15 payroll until 9/18 so we were paid late. They have not entered the 401k deduction correctly. Double taxed my fed taxes. If you don't ask to check every detail, something will be wrong. Finally they agreed to waive the entire month of Sept charges. Very low customer service these days. I used Paychex for my small business successfully for about 2 years. Unfortunately, after my "intro rate" expired, I found the invoice cost too high. I shopped around and found Pay-Tech, another company. Then the problems started with Paychex. I have since canceled my account with a "no issues, it's easy, you're not under contract." Then I ran my first payroll with the new service and it all seemed fine, no charge from Paychex that month. Now a good 45 days after I've canceled, I have received an invoice charge. The rep that answered the phone said they charge even when there is no payroll run through them. FINALLY, she looked at my account and saw that I had canceled. She was going to fix the problem right away. That was last week. I still have the charge on my account, the manager that was supposed to call me has NOT reached out, AND they had the nerve to add me to their sales team cold call list! Someone from Paychex called me today to ask me to start services with them. HA! Never. read more

If it were possible to do "no stars" I would do so. This company should be avoided at all costs. During my several year relationship with them, they would never disclose a summary of their fees to me, and they often simply missed any personnel change, despite being informed of it. Their service after-the-sale is pathetic, and woe betide you if you leave them for someone who needs service, but you still need them to produce some kind of final documents, like W2's for former employees. Currently they are trying to charge me $207 to produce two W2's, on the basis that they charge $75 per hour to do so. One would have to be a complete idiot to think that it takes nearly three hours to produce those. They describe it as a "service." I believe that stretches the meaning of the word. At one point when we had a new employee we had to fax forms to them four times before they received them. They are frequently mistake-prone, and when they do make an error, they will actually say it is "your fault." Nice, huh? AVOID THEM AT ALL COSTS. I would suggest working with Manage Staff in Tempe, which is much more customer service oriented. read more
