He has a wonderful friendly & courteous manner, explained everything thoroughly in easy to understand terms, made me feel comfortable & confident, answered all my many, many questions, and did a realistic risk-to-reward analysis based on my age (58), general health (good except for fibro) & level of fitness (good). The entire staff at Asheville Ortho is equally terrific. It's been about 18 weeks since the surgery and healing is progressing right on track. The procedure itself went very well. I feel completely heard and well taken care of by Dr. Elder and his entire staff. Arthroscopy is his specialty and he does hundreds of them - so he really does know what he is talking about. One last note: No, he doesn't prescribe PT because for this procedure, there really isn't any that can be done, other than to help with gait if that's a problem. It's just a matter of waiting - as hard as that is. I did not have PT and am walking up and down stairs with no aids at all now. But - I followed his instructions to the letter, used a walker & ice packs (purchased on Amazon-no need for the big machine thing) exactly as directed, took anti-inflammatories and pain med exactly as prescribed. It's not a fun operation, and yes, it really does take 6+ months to return to one's previous levels of activity and get 100% pain free. Also, I had NO arthritis, and I'm petite, so even with fibro I'm doing well. Note: The only pain I have now is still from the operation and only when I have been doing a lot. Also, again, I have fibro - so it's exacerbated. But the original non-stop grinding endless pain from the original condition (impingement, acetabular labral tear, IT band tightness) went away within a week and hasn't returned.

It actually was a blessing in disguise when I found Dr. Ann Smith with Apple Valley Family Medicine! I was happily surprised when I met her, very knowledgeable, personable and she took time to thoroughly answer my questions and concerns, I didn't feel rushed as I always had at my previous Doctor. I have been experiencing joint pain in my knees and ankles for the last few years, Dr. Smith recommended a treatment plan and said I'd feel better in two weeks and I did and do. I am very grateful, previous Dr. just told me it was my age (54), a kind of get used to it answer. Needless to say, 5 stars to Dr. Smith and the Office environment was great as well.

If you want a dr to spend time really listening to you, & sussing out your medical issues, then you have to accept an occasional wait because that's also what he's doing with the patient that came before you. In a hurried world where many Dr's grab their prescription pads and barely listen before diagnosing and treating you, Dr.Gardner is a real find. I've been coming here for approximately 13 years, and he's always hit the nail on the head. Plus he has a lovely bedside personality, a sory of Zen calm demeanor, super intelligent, and smiles a lot. Mostly I appreciate his deductive skills, how he works all the clues I provide into a diagnosis, and then a plan. The office is clean and the front staff friendly. Free parking in the lot downstairs. An elevator to his office shuttles those with mobility problems. On the few occasions I've needed a same day appt, it was arranged by Cathy at the front desk, with a simple phone call from me. On weekends the dr is available on call, or his "call partner" is available. My understanding is that he is not taking new patients (but has partners who will). I assume he got too popular. However, I emailed him to ask if he would do me the favor of seeing my parents - who had recently relocated to the area and needed a dr- and he not only squeezed them in to his packed roster, but continued to see my mom weekly for a while (until she needed to graduate to higher and higher level specialists). Dr. Gardner is still all 3 of our's primary care physician though. I feel lucky to have blindly picked him out on the insurance website.

When this PA called me back, I was told ask my primary care or my OB/GYN for further treatment options. she proceeded to tell my to stop taking a medication that I wasn't taking at all and then talked about my diagnosis which was also wrong. it was so obvious to me that she had not even read my chart before she called! I absolutely do NOT feel confident that my osteoporosis would be treated properly with this approach. Could it be a cutback of Medicare patients??

I have been a client for many years dealing with both minor and major health issues. Dr. Weizman is my primary doctor but I have seen some of the others in the practice. He is one of the best doctors in Asheville. He returns every call or email I send within the same day. Most times it is after office hours but he DOES return your calls. Never had any problems making appointments. The Front Desk folks are top notch. If they can't get me in that day, they easily set me up for the next day. The nurses, PA's, lab crew and everyone in the office has always been quite good at their jobs. They answer all of my many questions and concerns and also relay them to my doctor if he needs to follow-up. I'm never rushed through any part of my appointment. Dr. Weizman will review your lab work, his recommendations or records from my other doctors. I never leave feeling confused or concerned about my health. These are the people you want taking care of you when you're not feeling too good. I highly recommend the whole practice if you need them.

If I showed up that late they would charge me a missed apt fee and make me reschedule. They make you pay upfront for what should be sent through insurance...and then bill insurance in addition! Sometimes you are reimbursed but not always and not full the amount. Charged additional $200 "office fee" at my annual exam which is covered by insurance. When I called a few days later to ask why they said (DIRECT QUOTE) "because you talked to your doctor about stuff"... nothing new was diagnosed, no procedure performed, no medications prescribed, no new issues discussed other than additional symptoms of existing issues! This was the final straw... moving to my daughters doctors office who NEVER charges additional fees for annual exams regardless of how many things are discussed or new issues diagnosed.
