Dr. Boykin treated my Mom with extreme care, focus, professionalism, thought, diligence and excellent skill from her first appointment, to the surgery and through each of her post op visits. He is attentive, thorough, sincere, supportive and detail oriented. He is a great listener, observant and was cautious with every aspect of my Mom's health and well being. He was kind, helpful and engaged with our family and motivated to utilize all of the latest technology at his fingertips give my Mom the greatest outcome he could. He even came in to check on my Mom post surgery during her hospital stay on his day off, which meant the world to us and spoke volumes of his character and commitment as a physician. He and his PA, Chris, were positive and encouraging for my mother during the post operative process and really built a relationship with her, giving each of her concerns thoughtful care and staying committed to her at each step. I decided to make an appointment instead and she asked "what body part?" and I told her my hip, then she told me the first available appt was in 16 days! so I opted to wait.... And I waited...and waited. I watched an older gentleman walked in 45 mins or an hour after me and heard him being told that there were 15 people in front of him, yet he was called 20 minutes before me!!! Then I watched more and more people get called that came long after me...and I kept approaching the desk and they would say "you're next, they're preparing your room" and then they'd call another person that came in an hour after me, and then another and another. First I was told there was only two doctors, then that there were surgeons and they had to see certain (walk in?) clients and then they said there were 12 doctors?! After being in there for 2 hours freezing to death in their ice cold waiting room shivering uncontrollably, I truly started to lose it and they finally took me back! I don't know if I was bumped intentionally or what, but things are not run fairly there. I love Dr. Gabarino, and I would give him five stars, but their "call system" is an unfair mess and almost traumatizing! After finally getting out of there 2 1/2 hours later, a lady exiting at the same time as me, had exactly the same experience as me. She was also a walk-in and saw people get called that had arrived as a walk-in looooong after she had been there and seemed be getting bumped, while she was frozen to bone in their waiting room wondering why she had not been called. I used to love this Clinic, but this was truly a miserable experience. No, don't ever go as a walk in. Make an appt or don't go at all.

That was incorrect. The appointment to talk about a future hip replacement went well otherwise. I have attempted to get an appointment to see Dr. Hankley for that hip injection. Dr. Karegeannes is preventing me from seeing Dr. Hankley unless I make appointments with him, allowing him to collect insurance payments and co-pays. Imagine a doctor preventing you from seeing your doctor unless you see them and pay them first! The practice is investigating and I'm contacting the NC AG office as well.

The best thing about this doc is his professionalism and demeanor. He's gentle, very smart, and I have an overwhelming sense of confidence in his knowledge and skill that appointments are pleasant instead of nerve wracking as with other docs I see. I'm 76 years old and a former ICU RN for 33 years. I know competence when I see it, and Dr. Karegeannes is as competent as you can get. He treats me medically with injections for my knee pain, and with his guidance I feel I will outlive any need for knee replacement. I'm as grateful and I can be.

I do not advise going home day after surgery. The pain is even harder to manage the first week after surgery than before which had been impossible. They can use medication in the hospital that will not go home with you, and it took that to keep me from crying out in pain. After 3 days, I went home and still took pain medicine before it was time for another dose. My pain simply didn't follow the 4 hour time frame. I followed all directions except taking another does occasionally prior to 4 hours. Sometime before my 2 week check up, I was finally pain free after decades of chronic pain. I don't think that is necessarily totally normal, but it is a welcome change. The worst part of postoperative pain was hip, above knees, and top front groin area of my thighs. That pain was horrible and really hard to manage, so to have relief is incredible to me. I'm extremely grateful. The entire surgical staff at Advent were amazing They knew I was already in extreme pain when I arrived. The made me feel safe and like I mattered. I would definitely choose Dr. Christopher and all of the other doctors who took care of me and kept me calm.
