Dr.Leung painfully extracted a tooth from my 11yo without patient consent nor parental permission, then blatantly lied about it and said it fell out. Dr. Leung used numbing gel at the time, and my child was screaming. The dental hygienist said lying to patients is part of their process. That's the dentistry side. brought my daughter 14 year old for a cleaning, was a big deception, Dr. Leung didn't do a good job, she left rest of the braces glue when the objective was clean the teeth of my daughter after they put braces out, and she ask us to go back at orthodontics to put out that glue. Incredible, plus no body told me I have to pay a fee for go with pediatric dentist, so in total for a bad cleaning $430 ca, so even if we have insurance, I have to pay $210 ca, incredible, I never ever go back to the Pediatric dentist ofice, bad experience. I wish I would've checked the reviews before coming here. I specifically searched for a pediatric dentist for my son as I thought they would be better with kids. I knew my son would be ok as he had went to another dentist with no problem before. After he went inside, an assistant came out and told me that he wasn't willing to get the xray done and that he wouldn't open his mouth. I asked if I could go in and reassure him that it's ok, but the assistant said it would be best if I wait outside as kids tend to be more difficult when the parents are there. I would've appreciate it they at least let me try to go in in the end but they never even gave me a chance. In the end, they said "we are not sure if there are cavities, but you will need to put your son under at Cambie's surgery and we can do all the fillings and checking then." Because they were not able to see what's wrong with my child's teeth, they wanted me to put him under general anesthesia just so they can have a look. I got a phone call a few days later and it was around $4000 just so these dentists can "check" his teeth and find out if there are any cavities. I felt like I was pushed to get the whole general anesthesia thing done and they even said that "I MUST" do this. In the end I went to another dentist for his recommendation and he told me, "What?! There's no need to put him under general anesthesia I can see one cavity right there and it's an easy fix." Now my child is happy and I'm happy. I've never left any kind of reviews online but I feel that I have to say something about this place and if you feel pressured that the people here are making you do something you don't feel comfortable doing, look for another dentist and search for other professional opinions. read more

Our two children have been coming to this dental practice for over eight years and we have nothing but good things to say about it. Our dentist has always been Dr. Scheideman, a big bear of a man with a soothing voice and demeanor that calms both children and parents alike. Dr. Scheideman keeps the parents fully briefed on recommended treatments and the nurses have all been very nice and treated the kids with respect and gentleness. It is a busy practice so plan on booking ahead but well worth it. read more

Dr Christian Wong did a great job with my son's braces. he had very crooked teeth to begin with. We were recommended there by my dentist. He's always friendly, and did a good job explaining things to my son, especially about wearing his elastics and his retainers. read more

We began seeing Dr Nouri when my son turned 12 months and we go every 6 months. The early appts were to get him familiar with being in this environment. We go to the private room because he still gets a bit nervous. We did have to wait one hour for our 1st appt because Dr Nouri was busy and that irritated me, but he teaches at BC Children's, so we continued to come and I am glad we did. He takes the time to answer our questions and did not upsell anything. After 5 years, there is no indication of any cavities. We didn't do xrays until this year because Dr Nouri didn't feel he was ready. We tried it this year and my son did great and xrays confirmed no cavities. One complaint I have is that we weren't scheduled to do xrays, but the tech tried it at my request. The file didn't indicate it, so the reception kept calling his name to come to the front, not realizing we were waiting for Dr Nouri to review the xrays. My husband was in the waiting area with my son so he could play while I waited inside for the dentist. It was as if they thought we were trying to dash without paying the bill despite it never being an issue in 5 years. My husband kept thinking we were done because they kept calling us (like 5 times), but I was waiting a long time for him to take 2 seconds to say the xrays look good. And I had to wait another 5 mins because the reception had to confirm xrays were done. That was frustrating that there was no communication internally. read more

Not a big fan of this place. From the outside it seems great. . Our friend an ortho said the extractions the dr was suggesting were not necessary and could wait!! PDG was highly recommended to me by a very trusted friend who's kids had been going there for a few years. The mom particularly loved how Dr. Nouri wasn't pushy or advocating for drastic treatment....he suggested a "wait and see" approach. After her gushing we decided to give it a try. Our first visit has us hooked. It's not just the friendly atmosphere...it's the little things. While the kids teeth are being cleaned, I can sit nearby, where they felt comfortable. The staff was inviting and warm. I had NO idea about X-rays and kids (just that less is better I suspected) but they helped me understand the process. Both kids had a positive experience - neither of them "dread" the dentist visit the way I used to as a child. Finally - our Dr. was Resa Nouri. The other reviews on this site must be written by people who really got up on the wrong side of the bed. Dr. Nouri was so gentle, friendly - FUNNY - and kind with the kids, they just loved him. As a parent, he reviewed the kids' cases with me and I felt in very good hands. Should anything more serious arise, I feel extremely lucky to be in their care. He explained every step of the process to me and my mom when we would visit so we knew exactly what was going on. I have been taking my daughters to this office for over a decade! Have always been treated with friendly respectful service as soon as we walk through the doors. Office has been recently renovated with plenty of seating in the waiting area and also has monitors and a play area for young children. Reception is always well staffed, friendly, accommodating and willing to answer any questions. From the now retired Dr Kramer to Dr Chen to Dr Flanagan on the orthodontist side I have felt that my daughters have had great dental care! The hygienists are also professional and friendly with letting you know what is going on at appointments. We are always kept up to date with what needs to be done without feeling pushed into unneeded services. Lastly for us waiting parents appointments are pretty much on time! read more

We had to wait about 2 - 3 months for our first appointment as the main dentists only work one or two days a week in this practice and get booked up. Upon our arrival, my toddler and I were quickly seduced by the painted walls, toy area, video games, books and other kid paraphernalia. It creates a welcoming first impression and put my little guy at ease. This is the only good thing I can say as everything went downhill from there. The staff are disinterested in their jobs, rude, Dr. Nouri was unimpressive with an 'underwhelming' bedside manner for a pediatric dentist and the actual teeth cleaning and checkup were a half-assed joke that took less than 5 minutes combined....Yet we were there much longer. The place is expensive ($40 more than what SunLife reimburses us) and I think a lot of it is smoke and mirrors to charge a premium. My regular dentist would have done a better job at the exam / teeth-cleaning, and would have charged the fee guide amount. Not going back!! I think that the PDG staff are trained to delay and prolong appointments so that parents feel like they got their money's worth, which really irks me as a busy parent, that they don't respect my time. We were one of the first appointments of the morning and had to wait for FORTY MINUTES before we got in, at which time we were met by a junior (i.e. inexperienced) dental hygienist who came out with a clipboard and proceeded to ask q's about my son and his brushing regime as if he wasn't there (totally ignored by her). She never acknowledged him, was very surly and bland and Stepford Housewife like. Then, realizing that my toddler was competing for my attention, she said in a subtle (but still noticeably patronizing tone), "we'll just get this information once we get inside." She leaves us in the play / reception area, comes back 5-10 minutes later, and gets my son to sit down in a chair. Here, she proceeded to ask me filler questions that she didn't really appear to be listening to. It was almost as if she'd been coached to ask empty q's to fill the time and stall. (At your first visit, you must fill out a questionnaire that asks a series of q's like: how often does your child brush his teeth, any challenges or issues, how much candy and sweets does he eat during the week, does he drink juice/snack at night, etc) so her additional q's were redundant and/or she didn't take the time to read the forms we filled out. My son was getting increasingly anxious as he could tell this was all building up to something so I eventually said, "We've been here in this chair chatting with you for a while now (at least 10-15 minutes after waiting for 40 min) and my son understands what is about to happen and knows we're talking about him. By prolonging and not getting this over with, you're making him more anxious." She then asked me if I'd like to skip the teeth cleaning and just have a check up?!! I respond, "We're here to have our appointment completed fully not partially, can we please get the most important part done first in case things start to go downhill with my son?" She then ignores me, proceeds to do a half-ass job cleaning his teeth while I'm holding him in my lap hugging his arms so that he wouldn't squiggle too much. Finally we get taken to ANOTHER chair in ANOTHER room, to which I ask, "Are you short-staffed today?" And the hygienist ignores me and shuts the door to leave us by ourselves again. Dr. Nouri finally comes in an hour later, and the checkup is about one minute long. My son was screaming and very upset and neither Dr. Nouri or the young hygienist did anything -- they both acted stone-cold like he was performing open heart surgery. I was really surprised that when it came down to the nitty gritty part of their job, they were no better than any other dentist (worse) and didn't have any pediatric gimmicks to distract my son (a finger puppet to hold above him or some silly music or anything, just not "it will all be over soon" in a flat tone.) Any intelligent questions I had were met with rote answers that didn't answer my question or help me. For example, I asked, "what do I do when my son closes his mouth frequently during teeth brushing? He often closes his mouth and sucks on the toothbrush. " I figured they would have some great tips, and was surprised that the answer was, "We can give you a rubber piece to hold his mouth open . You can continue to try to get him to say "cheese" and hold him down -- get your husband to help you." Seriously??? WTF. I replied, "That's it? What about offering to let him brush our teeth first? Or placing a mirror at his eye level so that he can see what we're doing?" I could have come up with half a dozen other creative solutions myself. They even forgot to explain a few key things before we left like, "wait 30 minutes after flouride to eat/drink". I had to call them to double check myself. Overall, LAME. Don't recommend. read more

Overpriced and not worth the premium charged. We are looking for another dental practice where the staff love their jobs and are warm and friendly, and most important love to work with children in this capacity on a daily basis. Don't get seduced by the fun-painted walls and toys in the reception area. Everything beyond this point is rather unconvincing and will leave you feeling like you just had the wool pulled over your eyes once when you get the bill. I don't even think my son had a thorough teeth cleaning or checkup -- it was done fast, didn't seem like they were thorough and after much build-up doing kids "show and tell" with the dental tools. I also thought it was ironic how I was being advised to start flossing my son's teeth because he has two teeth that are touching, yet the same hygienist never flossed his teeth during her teeth-cleaning!! One last comment. It was really annoying to have my kid be asked many stupid q's. I know why they do it, but it ended up overwhelming him. Examples of questions they asked him: do you want to wear these glasses or those ones? Which sticker would you like? Do you want to feel the air blowing out of this? Do you want this toothbrush or that one? Can I look in your mouth? Can you count your teeth? Then to the parent: do you want flouride? Me: Do you recommend it? Her: Yes. Me: Then sure, do it. Not sure why you're asking me then. Another example. Hygienist: Do you want just a check up or a check up and a teeth cleaning for your son? Me: What appointment did we book? Her: Teeth cleaning and checkup. Me: Then I want what we came here for....... We left with a lot of swag: two toothbrushes, dental floss (two kinds), crayons, coloring paper, a sticker, a dental story book for kids, a dinosaur notepad, two pencils.... maybe that's why it costs so much to go here. This place should spend more on positive leadership/culture building and less on swag. read more

Overpriced, tooth extraction for my 12 year old daughter is $300 here while it's $100 elsewhere. That isn't even the worst, the doctors (Dr. Nuri), receptionists, and nurses did not explain to me what the procedures were going to be beforehand, any questions I asked about the procedures were met with annoyance. During the time my daughter was with them (~10 years) some procedures were done even without my knowledge and were added to my bill later on. The unenthusiastic staff, price gouging, and underhand tactics have caused me to abandon this practice for one more professional and ethical. read more

I wish I had read these reviews before we booked our daughter in for a filling here. This was a horrible experience. Our daughter was quite anxious about the needle, so we called first to ask if it would be ok if I stayed in the room while she got her filling. When we arrived, the staff informed us this was still fine (although they were quite rude about it), and gave me a seat. When Dr. Chan arrived she quite brashly informed me that she didn't want me there, and that I would have to wait in the waiting room. Dr.Chan's reasoning was that when the parents are in the room they try and reach for the parent and it makes her job more difficult. I can see this maybe happening once or twice, but to assume all children do this is absurd. I went to the waiting room and had to listen to my daughter crying and Dr.Chan telling her to sit still. After it was all done, I spoke with Dr.Chan about it, and she basically told me that I should have taken her to the hospital and had her put under to get her cavities filled if she was so scared of needles. I tried to explain that she would have been fine if I was just allowed to sit in the room with them, but she didn't care. Dr. Chan was incredibly rude, as was her entire staff. It was a horrible experience, and I wouldn't recommend her in the least. She is grossly under-qualified to be dealing with children or human beings for that matter. If I could give less than 1 star, I would, and it seems others on YELP feel the same way. read more

You should shop around. Agreed PDG is a stressful place to visit for both my children and myself. The staff seem on edge and uncomfortable with the doctors/office manager(s). From my observations the company is still back in the dinosaur age though it seems they have made some attempts to get with the program. However, it still runs an insanely high overhead. The good: The important people that keep our children's teeth healthy and pretty (the doctors and their assistants) have the proper education and training. The bad: dentists and orthodontists are not business-persons as much as they like to think. They went to school for dentistry and orthodontics not B.Comm. This is why PDG still employs office managers (a few hundred thousand dollars plus yearly expense that is not needed in this day and age), abundant receptionists (with use of on-line registering, emails, computerized phone service the receptionist staff could be reduced) and not to mention premium real estate (PDG is located in Oakridge Mall) and all of this means huge overhead for them and an expensive dental / orthodontic treatment for your children. PDG is definitely geared towards kids. They charge a premium for their specialization in paediatric dentistry. The dentists and assistants are nice. They love bribing kids with dollar store toys. The wait room is set up with toys and TV for kids. My big beef with them is recommending services that aren't necessary and very expensive. If your child falls ill and want to reschedule your appointment, hahaha, good luck with that! You won't be able to unless you are willing to go on a wait list or wait a FEW months if even that. Bring in the sick kid!! Get them all sick at the dental office! There are better dental groups out there for kids! Even if you do go with PDG, you will be switching dentists later on, so best to find the right one now, especially if you have kids that have a dental phobia!! read more

My daughter has been seeing Dr. Kramer for a couple of years now. (Her pediatrician recommended.) He's always gentle and friendly albeit slightly harried. It's a big office with multiple dentists so it can feel a little impersonal but the care they provide is, I believe, quite good. My son went to get a cavity filled and they insisted on giving him Medazolin (cost of drink $140) a drink to make him feel groggy and inebriated. My son has never presented with any fear or anxiety at the dentist, however they insisted it would be best if he didn't remember the experience. (I don't completely agree that kids should learn that going to the dentist is similar to the spa, so therefore eat as much candy as you want! But for some kids I guess it's necessary) When I further questioned, the dental assistant seemed really annoyed and told me that if my son didn't take the drug it would throw off Dr. Ng's schedule and he would have to spend more time on him and wouldn't be able to see as many patients ($$$$). She said if my son didn't take the Medazolin, and he was "difficult" in the chair, I would be charged a $150 fee for the inconvenience to the dentist. My understanding is that pediatric dentists charge higher fees (roughly 30% more) because they have special expertise In working with children. I do not consider drugging them a special skill that I should have to pay specialist fees AND be charged a premium price for a drug ($140) that really is more of a benefit to the dentist bottom line. I never felt that my son's best interest was their priority. In fact I felt the opposite. I understand that they are running a business, but don't treat me like a dollar sign! Feeling backed into a corner, I agreed. They did not let me go in with my son. In fact they were quite rude about it. When my son was ready, they made sure they wheeled him out the back door so other patients and parents wouldn't see my son looking drunk, incoherent, and unable to even walk. I feel awful as I was not given the best options for my child. Needless to say, I got my son's second cavity fixed for half the price upstairs at a lovely GP's office (DR. Chow), who took the time to make my son feel comfortable, without drugging him. Everything went well and I'm very happy I didn't continue sending my son and other two kids to PDG. If I could give PDG ZERO stars I would. Sometimes the best care for our children isn't always the most expensive, although it's easy to fall into this trap. read more

This is a great and kid-friendly facility. The dental hygienists we've seen always work hard to make my wee ones feel at home. But the Dr. we see (Dr. Chan) is always so, so rushed. Wow, what a nightmare at PDG dental. (Dr Nouri)My sons at ages 5 and 7 have approximately 23 cavities, crowns, absess, deep gum recession, pulled teeth due to rot down to the roots of the teeth. My sons have the best dental coverage available through Sunlife. My sons live with their mother except for four days a month they stay with me. I asked PDG to tell me what is going on and how many cavities my sons have. PDG said, "count for yourself". After much fan fair and my very explicit divorce Order, PDG rudely handed me over a few choppy letters and over 80 plus pages of scribbled medical charts notes with medical lingo. It is my strong oppinion that PDG sees me as less than a person because I am a father? When I insisted to know what was going on, PDG quickly responed with a large financial hurdle even though PDG has made ten's of thounsands of dollars off my sons teeth. PDG may be big and powerful, but that only makes it harder for me to get transparency. read more

I went for my daughter's first visit to this dental clinic when she was 2 years old. The place is nice and full of toys and a nice waiting area for parents and for the children to play, however, they have made me wait for one hour and during that one hour of waiting I kept asking them for how long I needed to wait to be told that the doctor would be ready in 15 minutes and that's asking 3-4 times. At one point I had to go to the lady's room with my child and when I came back which probably was 10 minutes only, the receptionist told me she had called me and now I had to wait again. First off, she knew I had to gone to the washroom because I had to ask for the keys. Basically she was giving the run around. I really did not like the receptionist's attitude. She had a vicious look. Very unprofessional of her and she sounded snobish. So, I got fed up and left. Then, the dentist calls afterwards apologizing for being late, but I said that it would have been nice if her receptionist told me what was going on and re-schedule or something rather making a mother and a toddler wait for 1 hour of nothing. read more

Over the last couple years I have noticed a continual decline in the service levels at this Dental Office. I have two children and we brought our oldest here until he was big enough to go to a regular Dentist. Dr Kramer was our Dentist and always took the time to explain every thing clearly and we never felt rushed. The Dental Assistants were always pleasant and made the whole Dentist Office visit bearable for a child. Dr. Kramer has now retired and I believe the practice has been sold or taken over by different Dentists? Not sure, but what I have noticed over the last couple of years with my daughter is the hurried pace of the patients they see. The practice resembles somewhat of a fast food restaurant where they rush you in and out with basic care that you still pay a premium for. The Dental Assistants are running around to orders barked by these new Dentists and its become a horrible scene to witness. I have decided to move my daughter to another Dental Practice as I think greed has become the driving force behind this Dental company. read more

I had a bad experience at this place myself. Had an appointment for the very first time for my child and after 1 hour waiting we could not stand anymore and left. But prior to waiting to that 1 hour additional to our appointed time, we were asking the reception about the wait and they kept saying 10 more minutes and the dentist will take you in. However, that was not the case. At one point I had to take my child to the washroom, already passed like 30-40 minutes over my appointment time, and the washroom break took me about 5 minutes and when I returned, the receptionist goes "I called you but you were not around. You have to wait for another 10 minutes". The same receptionist was the ruddest of them all. She had this attittude as if you beneath them or something. They were just lying and just wanted to piss you off basically by saying things like that when in reality they did not call me. After that 10 minutes, asked a few more times and we had enough. I was very pissed. They just kept lying and lying. They could have said to return in 1 hour or reschedule the appointment, but no, they keep just stating 10 more minutes.
