Oh my gosh, YUM!! Came in here shortly after they opened for lunch one day and got to see their beautiful displays before the lunch rush hit. So much delicious authentic food for such a great price! My friends have been raving about this place, so I was so happy to experience it, and it didn't disappoint! The meat is cut before your eyes, and the plates are assembled before you which I love! I tried the beef and the chicken shawarma and I was surprised to find that I actually liked the chicken better. It was so juicy! The beef did feel a little drier, but maybe it was because it was closer to the end of the day. The dolma and potatoes were also so good and flavorful. And the white sauce that comes with the plate is so addicting. The pita was really good too, they heat it up for you so it comes out warm. I have been known to order it by the tub so I can eat it for several days--perfect balance of flavors. Cabbage salad...fresh & crisp. Cucumber salad...could eat it daily. The staff was very kind and helpful, the food was fantastic and there was plenty of seating. The hummus was very good, definitely a classic simple hummus but they've perfected it. The consistency of this place is great. I've had a chance to try almost all of their offerings, and without a doubt, this place serves up large amounts of delicious offerings. Again, you basically pick sides (half or whole sides) and choose meat to go along with. If you want multiple meats, just ask for the item as extra meat. Of course, you'll know this if you come here often; sometimes the staff will give you that tip. My go-tos are basically hummus (spicy), veggie baba, or just plain baba, tabouli, grape leaves, chickpea salad, cucumbers salad, beet salad, sometimes tzaiki, and olive salad. For meats I often opt for the kefta stew, eggplant, roasted chicken (you can choose if you want half, whole, and which part), or some of their specials, such as stewed lamb chops in tahini sauce, their BBQ beef stew, roasted chicken with almonds and onions on pita bread, or a myriad of other options. I'm also addicted to their rice which usually accompanies their meat. They also have schwarma, but I prefer what they have out front. Bread comes complimentary. Then they have their desserts--numerous filo pastry doughs in different shapes with different nuts, and dessert cheese. Their food is filling and prepared well. They've recently obtained a food truck which they plan to pop-up in a few different locations, although they still seem to be deciding long term where to situate it. Also, they've replaced their table tops recently. It was about time, since they were getting a bit worn. One of my favorite restaurants is Peace Bakery & Deli. This place is one of those true Austin gems. It's casual, friendly, and serving seriously flavorful Middle Eastern food. For my main dishes, I usually go with the lamb shank and sometimes the beef shawarma. The lamb shank was fall-off-the-bone tender, rich, and perfectly seasoned. It comes with a generous portion of rice that soaks up all those savory gravy, making every bite incredibly satisfying. The beef shawarma is thinly sliced, well-marinated, and packed with that classic shawarma flavor. It had the perfect balance of spices, and the portion size was no joke. Paired with their fresh pita and sides, it's easily one of the best shawarmas I've had in Austin. My favorite sides are the potatoes (must get), beet salad, tabouleh, hummus, and babaganoush. Pro-tip: ask for half sides, so basically you can choose up to 4 things instead of 2 full regular sides. The half side portions end up to be almost a full sized side. Pita comes with the meals and their desserts are good too. Service is quick, and the staff is kind. Peace Bakery & Deli is one of the best restaurants in North Austin. My partner has always been a huge fan of Mediterranean restaurants, but I never fell in love with the food until I tried Peace's Palestinian-style cuisine. The food here is truly special, and every experience is better than the last. My favorite thing to order here is the falafel plate. The falafel is fried-to-order, so it is so fresh and delicious. There is a cafeteria style buffet of amazing sides to choose from. Some of my favorites are the tahni baba ganoush, the tabouli, and the potatoes (can be a bit spicy for me but I'm a spice wimp). Their tzatziki sauce is also amazing. The menu caters to both vegetarians and meat eaters alike. I wish I could speak to the amazing shawarma options they serve, but I am not a meat eater, so look to the other reviews for this. I can say my two dogs have tried a taste of the lamb, and they were in absolute heaven. I also have enjoyed both the zatar and cheese pitas (kind of like a pita pizza), and the staff will warm them in the oven for you (or you can warm yourself at home). Complete your dining experience with THE best baklava in Austin. ZOMG, all of the options are all so good. I think the walnut is my favorite, or the pistachio, or is it the cashew? You cannot go wrong. Finally, as if the delicious, fresh, healthy food wasn't enough to convince you to try Peace out, this family-owned restaurant has the kindest, most caring and personable staff. This place has been on my list for a while. Unfortunately walking in they didn't have falafel so the only other vegetarian option was a vegetarian platter. MAIN MEAL: We ordered the mix kebab combination, which comes with 3 skewers and 3 eight ounce sides (or 6 half sides). The skewers are usually chicken, beef, and lamb but they ran out of the chicken ones when we got there. We got 2 beefs and 1 lamb. The ground beef skewer was very tender and aromatic. The lamb skewer was smoky and definitely my favorite. SIDES: We had the option of getting SIX half sides! We ordered baba ghanoush, hummus, tzatziki, eggplant, spicy potatoes, and fattoush salad. All of them were super yummy but I would highly recommend getting the baba ghanoush, spicy potatoes, and fattoush salad. DESSERT: We got a piece of kunafa, which was very yummy! Not overly sweet and nice and warm. We also got a piece of pistachio baklava. Would recommend both! OVERALL: I can't recommend this restaurant enough, probably one of the best meals I've had in Austin! I think this is good for 2 people. I've come here a few times and always had great experiences! They have big space and are never busy to the point where I'd worry about a long wait or getting seats. Their portions are pretty big and a fantastic value for the area. I'd recommend either coming very hungry or going in with the mindset of making 2 meals out of your plate. Don't let the name "bakery" fool you - this place is sooo good not just with desserts, but hot plates as well. The ordering process is assembly-line style, with a few menu options (e.g. wraps) where you don't need to specify everything. I ordered the beef shawarma wrap to keep things simple, but I would definitely go for the platter meal next time. They have a huge selection of sides, and their meats are cooked rotisserie-style. For the small number of staff they have behind the counter, they move quickly cutting the meat, scooping sides and managing the register. The beef shawarma wrap was absolutely delicious - the meat was tender and packed with flavor, and the cold ingredients (humus, tomatoes, pickles, onions, and lettuce) pair so well with the beef. The wrap and the platters are also decently priced for the amount you get! Lots of parking outside, and a good number of tables inside. It's an odd location but once you know where they are you don't forget them. It's family owned and they all work there. They make most everything from scratch.
