When our date got closer, Jeff sent over the final weight for our share, and it caught me off guard because it was so much bigger than the past shares we've gotten through other local farms. As it turns out, there's a reason. When we picked up our meat, we found Jeff excited to share how he raises and feeds his cows and why, ultimately, his meat is far superior. (He didn't say as much, but as you can see by the photo, it's incredibly clear that there's no comparison.) We learned more about the care and feeding of cows that afternoon than we thought possible but we loved every minute. He was also great with our kids, taking them to see and pet his horses. Afterwards, he even called me to share his favorite recipe for flanken ribs. But how does it TASTE, you ask? As a reformed 25+ year vegetarian, I can't stand the smell of most grassfed beef that has come into this house. (We've done multiple cow shares before through other ranches, all the same - the smell is nauseating.) Bar 3 Ranch, though... totally different. There is NO gamey smell, no gamey taste and my husband gives me the side eye now because he has to share his steaks with me. It's GOOD. Like, REALLY GOOD. Words are probably not going to do this justice, so I'm attaching a photo of the difference between Jeff's meat and our last half cow from another/local ranch. There is just no comparison.

The place was clean and just the right size for my wife and I. Being city folks you forget how dark it is out in the country at nights. It was nice. We signed up for these adventures to make the weekend even more fun: 1. Feed baby kangaroo(Bodhi). This was about a 30 minute session where we got to feed him a bottle and kibble. It really was an amazing experience. 2. Bucket of food and self guided feeding of animals. We walked the property and hid to feed so many animals. All of the animals were friendly toward people. They were all very good motivated. We encountered a giraffe, donkeys, zebras, horses, cows, pigs, dwarf steers, camels, emu, deer, buffalo and more. The animals were often trying to bully their way to the front of the line. The cow Oreo who has not skipped a meal was always front of the line. 3. Afternoon safari ride in ATV. This was a fun ride around the property. Did not see any new animals but had a great time. The cows out at pasture were thrilled to be fed. 4. Giraffe encounter and meal. This was a little expensive but I would spend it again. The giraffes were super friendly and personable. We wanted to take them home because they were so much fun. The guide, experience and never felt rushed made this worth it. Our guide was top notch. I think her name was Jackie but could be wrong.

They have such a great selection…read moreof everything from fresh vegetables and fruit, seafood, meats, gourmet popcorn, art, coffee, dog food, CBD, plants and flowers...you walk in for one thing and will walk out with everything. We purchased wild salmon fillets and they were delicious. The popcorn, bread and skittles didn't even last 5 days in my house. The prices are reasonable and every vendor is friendly and willing to answer any questions and some even give you taste tests!! Check them out!

Over the weekend we had a work event held at Reunion Ranch & let me tell you it was soooooo much…read morefun!! When you rent out Reunion Ranch (the outside grounds..a whole bunch of acres :) you have the entire place to yourself w/ access to over 41 activities..let me repeat that..YES, 41 activities!! There really was something for everyone one to enjoy..from the babies to the grown peeps! And the Reunion Ranch staff are so organized & kept things flowing so smoothly..even with over 400 attendees! I also really liked how the RR staff would announce over the loud speaker what activity was about to start. Activities Reunion Ranch offered: -tug of war mud pit..yes, complete with a real MUD PIT!! -volleyball courts -canoe & paddle boats -man made little sand beach -maze -horse shoes & washers -miniature golf -zip line -wagon rides -pony rides -obstacle course -teen tower -dunking booth ect ect ect And so many more activities but tooooo many to name & I'm not trying to get carpal tunnel ;) Another thing I give kudos to Reunion Ranch is the food serving line..they have about 6 different serving lines w/ RR staff making the plates & even w/ over 400 people in attendance the wait time was super fast. We had all you can eat barbecue plates & all you can eat Bluebell ice cream cups! There also was cotton candy, popcorn, & snow-cones for everyone to enjoy & for us adults..the libations offered were...sangrias, beer, & wine!! I was a regular at the sangria station!! ;) Reunion Ranch really is a cool place to have a team building event, reunion, or a wedding. My horses were still not gaining weight after I was buying bags of senior and mana. I paid for trims with the farrier asked to be put on the list. the farrier never trimmed them so my money was just being stolen . Both horses suffered severe dehydration, qnd impactions , and were hospitalized . One made it the other did not . Staff turnover rate is high every month new " trainer " . Owner does not ask for paperwork for current shots , Coggins etc . There are plenty of public records about the owner .

Speaking of eggs, ample egg vendors. Found 3 at different price points ($6, $7, $9). Unfortunately, the $6 eggs were some of the worst I've ever purchased at a farmer's market (flavorless, barely yellow yolk). Other than that, they had bread, some produce, beef jerky, sweet treats, and some other miscellaneous vendors. Oh and Tong's Dumpling Bar is a star attraction. It's in a large strip mall so parking is easy. That mall also features one of my personal favorites -- JuiceLand -- so it's an excuse to grab a smoothie!

There are about 15 vendors selling food, jewelry, soaps and eggs. Unlike the name applies I did not see any fruits and vegetables. It is quite ironic that Austin farmer's markets in general have very few fruits and vegetables, if any. In Washington state farmer's markets had a huge variety of organic fruits and vegetables (miss Washington state.) A standout vendor was one that was selling handmade cutting boards. I may go back to purchase a cutting board. Yesterday, I had only cash and not enough to purchase the cutting board. I did get a cookie that was a cross between a cookie and biscotti. Very different than anything I have eaten... Interesting little diversion for the day. All the folks at the farmer's market were friendly and very open to sharing samples. The farmer's market had few customers. It was almost like walking through a ghost town....quiet environment.
