Though, like Eleanor I'm pretty small at 5ft 3", hence didn't even attempt to try on their long, flowing cocktail dresses. This is also the reason why I can't comment greatly on customer service. But, when I popped in for a nosey the staff seemed pleasant enough and after a quick greeting and enquiry as to what I had in mind, they happily left me along to have a browse. Potentially this was only because I clearly had no idea or occasion in mind, who knows? Anyway, this is a pleasant enough shop though up my street; I'm sure it's the kind of place that your mum or older aunt might enjoy a look in.

After trying on what felt like 100 dresses, I left disheartened as none of them suited me. I actually thought a few looked quite good but the busybody shop assistant assured me that none of them did after humming and hawing and a series of, "yes, that one's not for you..." I can't say it was a very positive shopping experience and definitely not good for my self-confidence. To be fair, I'm only 5ft so very small and I guess I didn't really do any of the dresses justice. I kind of just looked like a little girl who was trying on my mums clothes. I think the dresses here are generally designed for womanly hourglass figures so unless you're Marilyn Monroe, forget it. The dresses are very glamorous to look at but I found some of them were a bit old fashioned and be warned, if you're looking for an ego boost you definitely won't get it here!

The one on the half a head dummy looked beautiful, ok my description of the display may not be selling it to you but it was a really pretty and unusual looking piece of jewellery. This shop is probably more mother of the bride by looking at the outfits on display. They do have a good range of accessories, from fasinators, handbags, scarfs and jewellery. The ladies were very helpful and the lady who initially served me got the necklace from the shop window for me. It was a little more than I would have liked to have spent but it really was pretty and would go perfectly with my outfit. So next time you're in Hamilton ladies have a wee look. It does feel very intimate as it's a small sized shop but it's very brightly lit and you can see in through the window display, so I would window shop first before heading in. By the way there's no way you'll get 'Madonna Voguing' here, a wee disappointed but I'll get over it. I just keep it all in my head instead. Vogue!

Indeed, given that it wouldn't look out of place in some of the swishest shopping districts the country has to offer, it comes as a major surprise to see it standing in Rutherglen's otherwise tired Main Street. Specialising in designer gear for kids aged 0-10, the vibrant store has a good range of clothing and footware from names such as Coco and Berlingot. It's a great spot to visit if you wish to buy your child a nice new outfit for a special event of if you, well, happen to have a hell of a lot of money burning a hole in your pocket. The window display is ever changing and everything always looks very sophisticated. The clothes always look great quality and even though the clothes aren't ridiculously expensive, they look like they should cost a lot of money. My aunt has bought a few items from here and I particularly like a couple of scarves she's purchased from Eyecandy. Whenever I have ventured in, I usually have a browse at their costume jewellery, I got my mum a lovely brooch from here a few years ago. They have a good selection and many unusual pieces too. My perpetual tour of 'girly shops' continues…read more Initially the emphasis was on fun and funky accessories in this shop but now, as well as the handbags and jewellery they have a selection of glamorous and glitzy clothes too. Basically it does what it says on the tin! The goods are laid in out by colour, which I like, the emphasis being on colourful tops studded with the ubiquitous sequin and sexy dresses. You know what I'm trying to say. Hopefully. For such unusual clothes, prices are very reasonable starting at around £20 with regular sales.

It sticks out like a sore thumb amongst the greasy spoon cafés and sun bed centres! It looks really lovely inside with nice dark wooden flooring and everything is so neat and tidy. If you have ever seen the episode of Cribs where they look at Mariah Carey's New York apartment, Cocoberry looks like her dressing room! You feel like you are really in a giant, well organized wardrobe rather than a shop! Imagine my disappointment then when I had a look at the actual stock itself and was pretty disappointed. I thought I might find something really unusual and quirky. Maybe I'm getting old but I just found a lot of it pretty trashy. There was the odd nice little dress but nothing which said, "BUY ME! BUY ME NOW!" The dresses were exactly the same in style as you could find in any high street chain store, except more expensive. Loads of girls will love Cocoberry and I really can see why. The dresses they sell look like dresses I see girls wearing in clubs and bars on a Saturday night. Unfortunately I am just a 1950s Betty through and through and didn't find anything to suit my personal taste.

No matter how classy they try to make themselves they are all essentially up market sex shops. Whenever I see the red silk slips and the lacy thongs with suspenders I just think of one of those cheesy old movies where the femme fatale announces that she is going to "slip into something a little more comfortable." Oh dear. I don't know why but these shops just make me cringe beyond belief. This one is right in the middle of Clarkston, right next to the ice-cream shop and the primary school it just sticks out like a sore thumb and seems really inappropriately placed. The last thing you want is to bump into your neighbour walking his dog while you step out with a pair of suspenders. I'm personally not into this kind of thing but I guess it does the job for people who are.

A great little boutique with a lovely range of undies…read more Great measuring service, the ladies are really nice and at no time make you feel uncomfortable. The changing rooms are a little small but they are tucked in so that no-one ever need see you trying on your bra. Some of the bras are very pricey but the others are the same as buying in Debenhams, with a much better service. If they don't have your size they will order in for you. Once being fitted (and they suggest a quick check before buying any bra) you are shown a selection of styles and prices, and never forced into buying the dear ones!! Highly recommend for a decent fitting- it makes all the difference.
