My last visit was for a cleaning for all four of my children which I made 6 months ago/last year. Before the visit, they confirmed my appointment vis text and that I would be doing self-pay because my insurance had expired, and due to our financial circumstances, we do not have dental insurance this year. WHEN I ARRIVED, I was told the cost of the visit. I was already there and known there would be a cancellation fee at that point, so I felt like it was too last to cancel or change my mind. I was already emotional that morning from other personal struggles, unknown to the staff, and throughout the visit I was holding back tears with the overwhelming financial burden. This unexpected cost just tipped my emotions and I spent the rest of the visit trying not to cry. While each staff member was doing their job and asking me their routine questions, I was short in my responses as I mentally was trying to figure out the best way to pay and texting my husband about what to do at the same time. I left the appointment embarrassed and hurt. A few days later, I called to set up my kids necessary cavity appointment & hopes to ask for financial aid. On the phone the lady told me that I was not allowed back because I had "offended" the employees and made them "uncomfortable" -- I was SHOCKED. I was the one that was embarrassed and felt like none of the front office ladies even gave me an ounce of sympathy or concern but instead just watched me cry. After the call, I even reached out to the Dentist and carefully explained my side. I had no intention of offending anyone at the office and hoped that as a valued, consistent client, he would be more understanding. I had never had a problem with any of the employees there ever. Even though he responded kindly, I am still not allowed back. I am extremely hurt. Why should I be judged by my worse day, rather than given the benefit of the doubt for all my years of loyalty and kindness. My review is not meant to destroy this good business. I simply hope the next person the staff struggles with is handled more carefully - with a little more empathy and little less judgement.

Everyone is friendly and welcoming and Dr. Kevin is very informative. I also really liked how he thanks his staff repeatedly as well as the patients in his care, and the parents for bringing them in an allowing him to treat the patients. Based on my first experience today, I was impressed that he spent quality time with each patient and their parent, he was able to fit us in for sealants rather than make us schedule another appointment. The only issue I had was that the checkout lady gave me a significantly higher price for the sealants than Dr. Kevin mentioned. He specifically mentioned that our insurance covers them, she tried charging me $95. I came home to find my treatment plan and it's only $8. She charged me for fluoride which I think is covered also. But I accepted that even tho I think I was still overcharged for services my insurance covers. We'll see what our EOB says. Office was clean, and I watched them clean after every patient. Definitely happy we chose Alpine Kids for our pediatric dentist.

Our kids are older but if you have kids, this is the perfect place to bring them. Such a kid friendly office space and today I even saw the staff bring in a teddy bear for a child to cuddle with while getting work done. As much as I hate getting dental work done, I'm happy to have finally found a dentist and office that I feel comfortable visiting when needed.

The dental staff was amazing with my toddler and so welcoming and not forceful or intimidating. They did amazing helping my toddler feel comfortable and were so gentle. Dr. Burt was awesome too and great with kids. He even made an animal balloon out of a glove which my child loved. We will definitely be coming back to this place for all our pediatric dentistry! So friendly, clean, and lots of fun toys. We've never left a dentist with so many prizes and toys before!

He started looking in my son's mouth and used a laser to look for cavities. He claimed he found 4 cavities and suggested crowns are best for long term. Instantly my gut was telling me this wasn't right. He never showed me what teeth had the cavities or even the x rays to show me where they were. I ended up taking my son to a different office to get a second opinion. They found NO cavities and said no work was needed. I couldn't believe it! Please trust your gut or get a second opinion anyways with this office. I'm so happy I got a second opinion and didn't put my son through unnecessary pain. We won't be returning.

CASH PAYING / NO INSURANCE - PLENTY OF BETTER CHOICES ELSEWHERE!…read more We WERE patients of this practice the past couple of years and had good service for the times we went (2X/year). However, if you do not have insurance (unemployed, self-employed) you will significantly save by taking your business elsewhere. TMFD provides NO discount to cash paying customers. You will pay the FULL amount of the rate they "bill" insurance companies, even though TMFD collects only a portion from insurance companies due to the contracted rates for said services. Example: I was interested in just a cleaning. TMFD wanted to charge me $112 for the cleaning. I had a cleaning earlier this year (Jan '24) and the rate they billed insurance for just the cleaning was $97. What insurance actually paid them was $45! Yet now, TMFD wants to charge me $112. I called around and found more sympathetic dentists to my current situation who not only had a less expensive rate to begin with, but offered a discount to cash paying customers (because they know they're going to collect more from a cash paying customer they offer a 10-25% discount than they would billing insurance). Once we have insurance again, no problem. Just amazed that TMFD wasn't willing to work with us and would so easily loose two loyal customers! BTW, their in-house plan wasn't that great of an option, once you run the numbers.

But I couldn't have chosen a better office to go to. I love how great the staff is with my daughter. Their prices were reasonable to what we had been quoted at her prior orthodontist so that made me feel good. We've been a patient for a year now and she's getting her braces off in January. Dr. Maxfield really takes time to explain what he's doing to the patients and the parents. The office is also very clean, and I watch them clean often while I'm at my daughter's appointment. My daughter received an Aloha shirt, water bottle wax and flossers at her first appointment welcoming her to the office. Dr. Maxfield himself even called us after her first appointment just to check in on her. They also offer Aloha bucks for a good visit, no broken brackets, and for wearing your Aloha Orthodontics shirt to your appointment. 5 bucks if you meet the criteria. Plus you can get more bucks if you get a good write off from your dentist at your cleaning appointments. You can turn these bucks in for gift cards to local establishments or for the infamous dole whip they serve. I think there's a candy reward at the end of your brace wearing days. The post went straight out the side of my bone and caused an infection that is causing lots of issues. Dr Matthews NEVER came forward and said he messed up, nor did he take an X-ray after the surgery and correct the issue. Every dentist I've seen has said this is HUGE AND HORRIBLE mistake and are shocked when they see the X-rays, and have called it a "VERY BAD DAY" that Matthews must've had. If you don't want this to happen to you, and get the cold shoulder when you confront him to fix it, then go elsewhere.
