I made a call to a dentist not too far from this location off of N. church st which was less than a few feet from where I was located and the front desk representative did not seem interested in not only the urgency I had but the care I needed. After explaining my issue she said well I'm not sure what procedure you are explaining but does your in order to move forward I need to see if your insurance covers you. 1. I already explained I went through my insurance site and found this location (active listening is not her forte- she should've asked me about the member number) 2. I needed a same day appointment because of the pain associated with my issue. (After all that she FINALLY said we can't do a same day "you can go to urgent care") I said thank you and hung up-She clearly cannot represent the brand... NOW AS FAR AS THE TOP TIER SERVICE AT PEARL DENTISTRY... CHEF'S KISS! I called in and was greeted with the most welcoming and empathetic voice and professionalism from the front desk staff (I could almost kick myself for letting my pain make me drop the ball and forgot to get her name- she needs a shout out) She asked me how quickly can you get here? Do you think you can get here within 30 minutes? I was floored! Yessss I can! At that point she asked "so how did you find us?" - not will you be covered by your insurance. I told her my insurance and she said great! I can look you up to help you get in quicker and get taken care of! I was ill prepared but she took other means to find me and followed up with a 2nd phone call before arriving. The way she carried herself it was like I was the only patient they had and I was Queen Charlotte herself - just VIP Service and care, tailored to me, and about me. Good energy from the jump start! When I arrived... I was literally at the corner and she was looking out the window at a lost lady with 2 toddlers in a stroller and she waved me down like she knew me-Thank God because I was already hot and in pain but her infectious smile from probably 400+ft away made me feel like I was seeing a long time friend and I waved and painfully smiled bigger than I should have! she opened the door for me and said hey there welcome to Pearl Dentistry! I said did I look that lost? And we laughed and she said it's ok I'm just glad you made it! The other staff members were smiling and greeting me too (like we met before as well) 1. Location- Beautiful, bright, wonderful aesthetics, beautiful chipper people, and very professional. Great music too! 2. Technology and Intake- sent me a message for check in to my phone, easy and effortlessly created without feeling like I'm putting everything and my blood type on there (I've had some forms I wanted to just exit and this was very direct, straight to the point and not a dragged out process.) 3. Wait time- by the time I blinked they were calling me to the back and that was perfect because with the toddlers they can get a little too busy us moving to the back as quick as we did helped a lot. (Not to mention they had snacks for them and YouTube that kept them cool, calm and collected during my visit) 4. My Tooth Fairy Dr. Amanda Curtlin, DDS What a refreshing experience to know that the standard of service does not stop at the Front staff but in the individual rooms with back staff (Dental assistant/X-ray tech/ pre-op- very personable young lady!) Dr Curtlin made my nerve wrecking experience easy and effortlessly created a great environment for me to relax and provided a clear understanding of what was happening, why it was happening, and what we need to do to stay safe during & after care. Never in my life has a dentist made me feel comfortable enough to hum through a tooth extraction. I mean she carried the tunes with me, checked in on me after every line of the song, and still carried out a full tooth extraction without missing a beat! I think I even heard her sing to the dental assistant to drain the site AND I LOVED IT! She communicated with me the entire time, telling me to make sure I tell her if I feel any pain vs pressure, paused if she didn't understand what I was saying even if it was something as simple as you both are doing great because at that point they weren't just my cheer squad, I was theirs! I am an unofficial Pearl Dentistry ambassador little does she know and that is because of Dr. Curtlin and the entire staff! what can I say about this place? I had to find a new dentist since mine moved outside Uptown and Pearl was my choice. in two months I lost a tooth, they used all my annual allowance from my Delta Dental Insurance and I still had a bill of $1,400 to pay. Stay away from this place, they play a crazy loud music all the time and show slides of their team on tight jeans, provocative poses when you are getting your treatment. I'm incredibly disappointed with the lack of transparency and the sales tactics at this office. Every visit feels more like a commission-based sales floor than a healthcare environment. The upselling is constant and uncomfortable. To make matters worse, they have applied treatments and used deposits on our account without clearly explaining the costs or getting my consent first. My husband has had the exact same experience with unauthorized charges and constant pitches for procedures. They make it seem like you are losing all your teeth if you don't agree to their suggestions immediately, yet other dentists later told him those procedures were unnecessary. Even when his expensive implant crown failed shortly after the procedure, they offered no accountability and simply charged him again for a 10-minute fix. We will be taking our business elsewhere to a dentist who cares about patients, not just hitting a sales quota. read more

I always refer them to anyone looking for a new dentist and even though I live outside the city it is well worth the drive. They have top notch hospitality, the music there is awesome. Don't let the 5 star reviews fool you, they will immediately contact you and ask you to remove anything less. If you don't, they will drop you as a patient. Pearl cancelled my appointment and dropped me after I didn't remove my review, cancelling an appointment that was supposed to occur 3 days later. I was told I could only keep my appointment if I removed my review and signed a contract that I'd never post a bad review again. It's attached for your viewing pleasure. The fact that a dentist's office would be so manipulative over a Yelp review is just disgusting. The whole situation was highly disappointing because the only thing I ever asked of Pearl was to respect my time. I asked for no text message communication, I preferred calls and emails, and no calls in the morning because I worked 3rd shift. They always said no problem, we completely understand, but then consistently texted me before 8 am. There was never any conversation around "we're sorry, but we can't accommodate that request," just promises to be better that were never fulfilled, and then them being surprised when I got frustrated. The fact that Pearl calls themselves a "small business" was a red flag to me, and it turned out that my instincts were correct. Pearl doesn't care about their patients, they only care about their bottom line. Your oral health is their last priority. They are a business before they are a medical provider, and that's not what I'm looking for in a dentist. I have since found a new dentist, and I learned that Pearl is also overpriced compared to others in the area. For example, flouride at Pearl was $45, but at my new dentist, still in Charlotte, it's $21. So, Pearl might have a lot of bells and whistles, but you are paying for them. I only stuck with Pearl as long as I did because I hate change and I like TV's on the ceiling, but I'm so glad to have finally found a better dentist- who also has TV's in the ceiling AND free parking! There was one hygienist who was absolutely phenomenal and I will truly miss her, but I'm happy to never deal with the manipulative owner and rude front desk staff again. read more

This place is everything and I do think twice a year driving this far from home is doable only because this place is pretty awesome. I found out about this place via a Yelp event sometime early 2016 and instantly fell in love. I was at the front desk during the event ensuring that they were in network for our insurance as I really wanted to have my twice a years here. I made an appointment while at the Yelp event and was able to experience the practice in Dec.2016. This review was sitting in Draft hence the delayed post after my visit. I was pleased with the process and the ease of parking (validated), the welcoming at the front desk, the Roku and Bose headphones while I relaxed in the comfy room and the smiling faces checking me out. The reason I'm knocked my starrage down to 4 (would've been a 5) is because of the additional charges I experienced for a routine covered visit. My X-rays and cleaning are covered 100% with insurance with no out of pocket however they really wanted this once tooth in my mouth so they took like 40 X-rays (exaggerating but it felt like 40) to get the shot that they still didn't get. The part that threw me for a loop is they charged me for the additional views that they were adamant about taking even with me mentioning "is this all part of my covered services". I only mentioned that because I had never had so many X-rays / views done and I've been going to the dentist twice a years since I was a little lad. This place is great and I'd suggest it to anyone looking for a clean, professional and comfy upscale environment. I would just keep in mind the additional views do cost even if you don't request them. read more

I like Dr. Jen and her staff. Went in for whitening and I honestly don't see a difference. That's not to say there isn't a difference.... just something I don't see. I know it was applied and I'd be happy to post pictures but I look crayy-zyy. Anywhoo, the tv was mounted above the chair and I started Mississippi Damned via Netflix as I just haven't gotten to it. They utilize Roku so I'm not most familiar with the stick and wish the D.A. would have let me played around with it but it's not like she did something wrong by pulling up NetFlix for me. Beats by Dre are on site and bless their hearts as they'll do better and save money by buying Monster or SoL as the Monster guts were part of the original Beats and the quality and warranty is better. Rant, not a rant, is over. Enter the facility however you can get in. I will admit I prefer the street as the garage confuses me to no end. Well, I didn't want to be late so I skipped the trolley and drove to the garage. Take the elevator to Floor 2 then exit to the left and walk along the corridor and you'll end on the streets. Turn left and the office is right there. I forgot how to enter from the Atrium so take this route. The front desk is staffed by 2. Ms. Caroline is there and she's good about emailing. Complete a form via Ipad. They'll take your picture via IpAd. This seems to be the norm around here and I personally don't like it but whatever. I'm called back to the room that's designated for whitening. Here is the great part: THEY EXPLAIN EVERYTHING THAT'S GOING ON AND THE PURPOSE OF EACH PRODUCT OR EQUIPMENT PIECE. Look, I wasn't afraid and wasn't getting real work done but it makes me happy to see this happening because that means they explain themselves and the work on a normal extraction or huge root canal. I was given the amount of time we'd have to pass and provided a bell to ring if anything hurt or bothered me. I can't speak on the Insurance handling as this wasn't that kind of trip. I can say when I started to burn the Dental Assistant appeared quickly and cleaned up the hurting place. We only 3 minutes left but I learned just don't move when bleach is sitting on your teeth. Got cleaned up and received instructions for the process. Dr. Jen checked in and we discussed how this works on kids and teens. Mentioned Halloween Candy Buyback to her but they don't get a lot of kids. The clientele is diverse. The text alert reminders the day of are pretty great. Although, I don't recall opting in. They are tech savvy enough that makes me excited to provide the 4 star. oh! They validate and I've provided pictures of how the room looks. I heart the chandeliers and decor theme. Super cute, posh! I had my first appointment at Pearl today and overall I liked it but didn't love it. The staff is super friendly. When I walked in both front desk ladies greeted me, shook my hand and I was offered something to drink. The office is easy to find and decorated cute. The music in the waiting room was tasteful and not too loud. My hygienist was super nice and she was very detailed explaining the whole process and everything she was doing. Their technology is advanced and the xrays and pictures that were taken were very clear. Like others have mentioned they do have netflix available to watch with Beats headphones and two screens which is awesome to take your mind off the dental work. The Dr. herself was super sweet and she had time for small, getting to know me which made me feel like she was making time for me and wasn't in a rush. Post the Dr. exam, a different hygienist came in to apply fluoride and scheduled me for a filling. I don't know what happened to the original lady. Things I didn't like.... -there's no free toothbrush at the end (which is like a staple when going to any dentist). Yes, this is a small thing but it's a nostalgic big deal to me lol. -they wanted me to put a deposit down on my next appointment and I told her I didn't know my schedule yet so I would call and she cancelled the appointment I already had. -they're slightly pricier then previous offices but I moved from AZ so maybe it's different state to state. Ex. usually my flouride is $20 today is was $29. My last filling was $72 they quoted me $81 today. - although only suggestions, I feel like they suggested some work/dental tools I didn't need (ex. invisilign, mouthguard, etc.) Overall, very nice staff, nice office, nice amenities and they're up to date with their technology. I scheduled out my 6 month appointment so I guess I'll be coming back. *They did offer to valet my parking but I didn't drive. read more

BEST. DENTIST. OFFICE. EVER. I'm in love and finally don't mind that I needed dental work done. Everything was awesome, from appointment setting, reminding me that I had an appointment (lol), checking in, the staff, the music (seriously love whoever picks the music :)), the office is so clean, even the decor rocks! In all seriousness, I had one of the worst dentist experiences in my lifetime prior to finding Pearl. I avoided the dentist at all costs until I couldn't anymore, and I am pumped that I found Dr Suzie. She not only listened to all my crazy concerns and fears but has helped me get back to feeling like I've taken care of myself. In turn, I got my smile back. Truly. I started smiling so much that almost daily people comment on my smile. I had no idea I stopped... Dr Suzie takes the time out to actually treat me. Taken back within minutes. Lots of smiles! Explained everything. Even though they were quick, it was fine with efficiency. Nothing lacked or was inaccurate. I absolutely loved that they were able to show my needs on the screen with the prices that included with and without insurance. She was able to easily it to me so I can make a decision. I was a bit wary due to mixed reviews but I had a great experience today with my cleaning and x-rays. It seems most issues reported on here were related to extra procedures aside from standard cleanings but I can't speak to that. The Good: I don't love going to the dentist and admittedly I've been spoiled most of my life having my best friend's dad as my dentist. I have one area of anxiety with regards to getting x-rays but the hygienist tended to it right away and made the experience as comfortable as possible. I wish I could remember her name because she was so good at what she did and so nice! The lady who met me right before the hygienist came in was also very sweet and welcoming (wish I could remember names). Bree and Regan at the front desk are very friendly and helpful as well! I love that they would occasionally text me to offer appointments that would come up to see if I could get in sooner than my regular appointment. I personally loved the vibe of the office, too. Shiny and modern with good music playing at a louder volume than most places. They also had a tv in front of your dental chair (and on the ceiling to watch when you're fully reclined) with Netflix to watch while you're getting your cleaning. For me, it really helped to ease any anxiety I had and those extra aesthetic touches really went a long way for me. Dr. Susan was my dentist and she was very warm, friendly, and spent time talking with me about some issues I will need to address down the road but I did not feel she, or anyone, was trying to upsell me on something I didn't need as some reviews have suggested. And, as long as you keep to regular appointments, you get a free teeth whitening kit to take home with you! The Meh: they are pricey! While I only came in for standard x-rays and a cleaning, I will need to address my TMJ at some point with Botox (estimated at $400 something) and nighttime aligners (estimated around $600)- none of which are covered by insurance. And, since they're all about comfort dental, they offer laughing gas for highly anxious people but it's $150. It's not Pearl's fault these things aren't covered by insurance but it seems really difficult for many to be able to afford these treatments. Maybe payment plans could be an option? If you have deeper pockets, there should be no issue here for you! The Bad: nothing noted! I really enjoyed my experience for my cleaning and looking forward to the next in 6 months! read more

Make sure you ask what is your dental fees before sevice, you will come out to a suprise with no explanation. Nice people but very expensive with or without insurance... They sent me to the second location to check my broke tooth, to tell me to extract it, no one told me it was additional to go to this other office... The first office said your wisdom tooth need to be extracted... The second office told me your tooth need to be extracted, yes that's what the first office said.... After an hour wait with my scheduled appointment, they charged me around $200 to tell me what they already told me yesterday... Can't recommend this Dental practice enough. I will start by saying I went a few years without see a dentist due to fears I had established from my previous dentist as a child. The staff here is very warm and welcoming and puts my fears at ease. The waiting area is very comfortable and tunes are so hip! I feel like I'm taking my teeth to Coachella! Marcie helped me with my grind guard and she is just a little dental assist angel, insert angel emoji(why can't you use emojis on Yelp? So strange). I've had two cleanings with Anna and she does a fantastic job. My schedule can be hectic and I really appreciate her efficiency. This place is great and look forward to my next visit! read more

Glad to be a +1 for the Yelp Elite event. Admittedly have not had a full service here but loved the experience. The ambiance is upscale, beautiful and modern but small enough to feel cozy and make me feel like I'd enjoy personal service. Dr. Jenny is friendly, personable and knowledgeable. The event included a free whitening that I was glad to take advantage of. Even servicing a number of people during the evening, I felt the staff was attentive and diligent when administering treatment. The treatments rooms are cozy but state of the art, with large flat screen TV show and one on the ceiling. It's the perfect way to enjoy sometimes uncomfortable time in the dentist chair with round and beats headphones. If you don't have a dentist in Charlotte, I'd recommend giving Dr. Jenny and her team a try. I am! read more

Hygienist is great. A little expensive. If you have no issues and just need cleanings, it's fine. I have been thinking about changing practices for a while because something just feels off. When both my children went and each needed a cavity filled and the earliest appointment is over a month out, it was the push I needed. I've never heard of a dentist who waits that long to fill a cavity. My daughter is home from college and needs treatment prior to going back to school. I was able to book her with a new dentist and was told by Patti at Pearl that her xrays were emailed to her as we were speaking; however, nothing was sent and when I called the office back, it was closed. Lots of issues over the last two years, mostly with communication but also a few red flags with care. read more
