Bingsu is a "popular Korean shaved ice dessert with sweet toppings that may include chopped fruit, condensed milk, fruit syrup, and red beans...The food originally began as ice shavings with red bean paste." I randomly passed Pastelnara in La Zona Rosa (CDMX's gayborhood), and being a fan of most things Korean, I couldn't help but grab the green tea cup bingsu (pictured). It did not disappoint. While it was slightly different than the bingsu I'm used to, it was a surprisingly pleasant take on a traditional Korean dessert. The dish was served in a 12oz recyclable cup and consisted of finely shaved ice, green tea syrup that made its way through most of the dish, and it was all topped off with vanilla ice cream and finely chopped nuts. It tasted great, and the best part--it was less than $2.50 USD.

Gloria, Tim, Alana, and I, were walking around Mexico City as tourists and saw a bunch of people eating paletas. They were standing around a small shop with counter service only. The price was so reasonable that I had three... it's just liquid, right? The gummy bear paleta was fun - sorry to the cute, fruity gummy bears that I ate! The coconut paleta was chewy also - because of the small bits of real coconut in it. The watermelon one (with seeds) was a nice ending... not too sweet and not as much work! All three flavors were great! We'd for sure return again if we were in the area!

Might as well enjoy as many as possible because we were leaving for the airport pretty quickly after this. I had a Pistachio Paleta. It was very creamy and rich! The staff here are quick and efficient! Once ordered, they unwrap your Paleta, wrap a napkin around the stick and hand it to you. Even though these were frozen pretty solidly, it was so hot out that it started to melt these quickly. There are no frills to this operation. Only one lonely bench for two, maybe squeezing a third on it. It's basically for people to order and walk away with. They do sell these Paletas in multiples... people were buying a small cooler full at a time. You can't beat the price, either! If I ever make it back to CDMX (Mexico City), I will definitely come to La Pantera Fresca!

The saved ice was made with some food coloring mix with sugar which was already pretty bad. They didn't put any mango on the mango shaved ice but instead put some grapes on it, which tasted ok. When you get half way thru the shaved ice, the fluffy shaved is gone, instead you are left with liquid slush filled with food coloring and overpowering sugar and chemical taste. It was bad. These guys need to learn how to make a decent shaved ice before offering. I guess is ok for the locals, but for folks who been to major Korean neighborhoods around the world you know this is not a good product. Overall a decent place to hang out to people watch, have a cup of coffee, but would recommend against having the shaved ice. Maybe the other stuff is better on the menu.

There are some more adventurous flavors on the list like rose petal, cream of violet, figs with mescal and a ton of romantic kiss flavors; spanish kisses, angel kisses, french kisses, princess kisses. Usually these will have flower petals, fruits, nuts, spices, all kinds of things mixed in. A nice little hidden gem.
