Having been stationed at Pease Air Force Base from 1981-1983, and having played this course several times back then. I was excited to return. Things have definitely changed. A lot of trees are gone, the swampy area (which we called the flats) seems to have been drained, and I noted the course was in excellent condition. It seemed to me to be shorter and play easier than I remember, but I really only remembered 2 holes (#10 at the end of a runway, which i remember as #1 and #2 which i remember in general but not where on the course it was). But... it's been 40 years and I may be misremembering. Anyway, the course is forgiving. My drives were not spectacular, but u was able to hit approach shots on or near enough to the green to score mostly pass and bogeys... in a soaking rain. As a veteran, I payed $38 to walk, which i thought reasonable. After, i went to the grill for lunch. However, no one had noticed me for two minutes, and, since I was wet and uncomfortable, I left and drove back to connecticut. I definitely want to go back on a warm, sunny day! read more

Played the blue course, requires a cart for reasons that become obvious. Enjoyed it, runs along the airport fence line for a bit, cool to see the planes landing and taking off. Look forward to play the front courses read more

This is for the range and it's sad for me to write this because this has been one of my favorite places to hit balls. The amount of time they had mats out last year was frustrating and what made it worse is the carelessness with how they put out the mats on uneven ground and without leveling out underneath. It's also nearly impossible for people to hit drivers off the mats so you can see many people hitting in front of the mats which ends up tearing up that ground and is more dangerous. So if you need to protect the turf at different parts of the season please also protect the golfers by creating properly and professionally laid out mats for people to practice on especially if you are going to charge full price at these times. read more

Good course; white tees for average (15+ hcp) players Tees, fairways, greens all better than average public course. Back tees provide more of a challenge. Reasonable green fees. Big negative: Huge, wasted - acreage Driving range tee and area in disastrous condition. Includes an unplayable bunker with big plies of unraked sand. Four small loose mats are the only usable surface provided. Small negative: Bunkers on the course like concrete under a thin layer of sand - impossible to play a normal, "splash" bunker shot. Sadly, these negatives are common at public courses. They save on the small labor cost required to maintain the above. And the public is used to this. read more

One of the better courses around the Seacoast. Stray away from the blue course, if you're not a sandbagger. Always looks like it's still under construction, what a bummer. Also, have to drive a golf cart 5 miles to get to the first tee of the blue course. What a ride. Stick to their regular 18 holes, would suggest. Afterwards, stop into Grille 28. Recently booked a golf lesson for my husband and me while on vacation. My husband had never picked up a club before and Tim, our instructor really gave some great tips and was a great teacher. Public course located right off of 95 and adjacent to pease airport. Planes will fly over frequently during a round of play. The course is maintained to "fair" to slightly above average. On several holes there is flooding/draining issues that result in uneven or dead turf. Some of this will be remedied with the ongoing rebuild. Most of the greens are very slow and relative to some courses, are quite small and single tiered. Per the surrounding area, it is very windy and gusts must be factored in during club selection. While the course is short there is a decent variety of holes requiring some creativity. Easily walked. The rough is very manageable. The course is small and you'll find yourself with 120 yard approach shots frequently. The course suffers from unkept sand traps and unruley fairway puddles that quickly become sponges when it rains. The maintenance crew will mow and work on projects while you play, often showing little regard for player convenience. A major renovation is underway on the lower nine holes. The major attribute of this course is its value for the price and its natural grass range. Medium sized buckets can be purchased at the dispenser for 9 dollars. One last comment on the types of people who play there. It is public but does consist of a hundred or so members who sign on yearly. Since its public you will see long delays and slow play. Lots of bad golf gets played on this course so be aware of the fact that you'll likely be behind a slow group of drinkers. Many retired people frequent this course. Easy to walk on as a single. Doesn't have well delineated cart paths and people tend to drive everywhere they like. The parking lot is mostly pot holed dirt and is terrible. I happen not to like the starting rotation of holes, which go Par 5, Par 5, Par 3. read more

First time I've played Pease since the renovation and walked away disappointed. Played on a Saturday afternoon in late October. $59 for 18 and a cart. Reason I don't play there often is the price. Never felt it was a good value for money particularly during the summer. Places like Links at Outlook and Candida Woods are better courses that provide much better value. You can play either right now on a weekend for $45 with a cart. The greens were very inconsistent with some being semi smooth and quick while others were pitted and slow with some rotten areas. As another reviewer states many of the "redone" holes are just blah nothing holes now. It's like a $30 retirees course now. However I do like the blue nine out back but when I asked if we could play that nine I was told no. The most enjoyable part of the round was seeing the jet jockeys do touch and goes at Pease. read more

Not worth the money at all. A quick history. Pease Golf Course at one time was Portsmouth Country Club. When the Air Force built Pease Air Base in Portsmouth, they bought the course and operated it as a military course until the early 90's. When the base closed, the course was turned over to a development authority who hired two golf pros to run it. They ran it alright; they ran it right into the ground. In the course of 10 or so years, the chopped down hundreds of full grown trees which lined the fairways and replaced them with berms completely destroying the character of the course. Apparently, that was not enough because in the latest renovation, they have ruined even further, a feat I didn't think was possible. The course has always had drainage issues in the lower areas and those have (maybe) been finally fixed. I'll give them credit for that. In the process, the shortened and straightened several holes, expanded fairways and again chopped down trees. The 4th,6th, 7th and 8th holes may as well be on a pitch and putt course. The worst of it is that they charge $62 on a weekday which is far more than any other course in the area. That might be acceptable if it were any kind of challenging or scenic course. As it is, it's nothing more than a cow pasture with some golf holes stuck in it. The bar/restaurant is great. Service, food and drinks all more than satisfactory and the prices are reasonable. Pro shop staff needs a few lessons in courtesy and customer care. After shelling out $248 for a foursome, some young kid from the pro shop walked up to us at the first tee and told us that we would be playing the front nine twice because of the golf league coming in later in the day. Fortunately, the starter rectified the situation by starting us on the 10th. He seems to be the only guy on the golf staff who has a clue. I don't think we'll be going back any time soon. read more

The only things the previous reviewer had correct were the location and the planes. I had the good fortune of playing the course early on a Monday before leaving town after a brief stay in the area. From the moment I arrived I was impressed by the attentiveness of the whole staff. The women at the front desk were as polite as could be. As I had only brought my golf shoes, glove, balls and tees, the pro shop staff hooked me up with a beautiful set of demo quality rentals to my liking. The starter paired me up with a couple of local golfers which was very beneficial as the hole order had been modified until the bottom nine renovations are complete. I found the course conditions fantastic for early season play, the greens had nice slopes and putt well. I found the hole variety pleasant and the bunkers in good shape. On course, the greens crew respected our presence while on the hole they were working on, stopping while we played through. The beverage attendant was attentive and pleasant when she made her rounds. The Blue nine was as beautiful a nine as can be found. Top it all off with an awesome burger from the boys at the grill, I personally can't wait to come back when all 27 holes are open and playable. But lastly, the previous reviewer was correct in the value pricing, check it out. Holding off on 5th star until all 27 are done. read more

Pease used to be a charming, quirky golf course and clubhouse that suffered from drainage problems in the early part of the season. It was very reasonably priced and the greens were usually in excellent condition. They added a new nine that was nice but you needed a cart to play. Then, they "renovated" the clubhouse and took all of the character out and replaced it with a very functional, cookie-cutter Florida style clubhouse. Now, the old course has been renovated. Meh. If it helps the drainage problem, I guess that's okay, but they totally ruined the funnest hole, which was #8, in my opinion. A course should not have 3 par 4s on the front nine that are potentially reachable in one stroke. Luckily, our pace of play was great, but I can imagine this really slowing down the pace. The greens were in great shape. Fairways nice. It's just that this course used to have personality, now it's nothing special. read more
