I'll start this by saying DON'T EVER use this company. Very hostile owners and possibly the worst customer service we've ever experienced. We have been coming to HHI for 15+ years, multiple times a year. This company is only in it to take your money, but offer NOTHING after that payment is complete. Horrible communication on where code for lock will be left. No emails with any information to refer back to. If they don't do their job correct it's immediately the customers fault and he owner is horrible to speak with. He's aggressive and even stated 'We would love for you to use another bike company, not ours.' So make sure you do that as well. I reserved bikes to be delivered but they were not. My credit card was charged anyway. I did not realize I was charged until I got my credit card bill. I thought my order had been lost and saw no need to cancel my request. I called the company they said that because I did not cancel the order I still owed the charge for the bikes which I did not receive. Disappointing experience with pedals and it's not our first. We popped in looking to purchase a part that we had forgotten. Pedals had iron stock as retail but refused to sell it unless we also rented from them. This is unlike other businesses on HHI which are so kind to visitors (we are multi-generational HHI visitors and come here a few times a year). This also strikes me as a poor business model. Had Pedals shown us kindness perhaps we would have thought 'hey, what a nice company- let's not go through the hassle of bringing our nice bikes and just rent cruisers when we are here.' Bike rentals on Hilton Head Island are a dime a dozen, they are everywhere so there is a lot of competition. Everyone offers free delivery to your hotel or resort; they drop them off and pick them up. However, the conditions of the bikes, the quality and the price are what set each business apart and of course, customer service too. The bikes here are very comparable to the other rental places when I did my research of other rentals. I liked the customer service here much better than others and overall, Bicycles-Pedals did offer the best rates on bikes for 3 days. Most of the rental places will charge you the same rate whether you rent for 3 days or 7 days, they all want the same. Here they had a 3 day rate, which was 1/3 of the others. I own a few bikes and just do not see the need to spend $65 for 3 days of using a bike for a few hours that others wanted to charge. Sadly, I do have a few complaints. The toddler bike they sent us originally was very rusted, however when we rode past their store (which is near the beach) they allowed us to switch bikes, the one we switched, fit my son much better as it was a little larger and it looked almost new. I believe for the toddler bikes, just for safety reasons, they should include a helmet. I think that is just smart and shows that they care about their customers children. My only other issue was that the bike locks were quite damaged, the locks that they use sell for under $4 on amazon (4 Digit Password Combination Bicycle Lock), these were quite rusted and needed to be changed out, it was difficult to turn some of the nobs. Other than that, the bikes were good. The seats were comfortable and we had a good time. Next time though I think I'll just bring my own bikes to HHI. Very convenient service. Bike was waiting at my rental when we arrived in HHI. We rented a tandem bike and had a great time. My only complaint is the bike was old and felt like it was going to fall apart the entire week. This is the second time we have rented tandems from Pedals and had the same experience last time. Horrible service. We rented the bike for the day and the minute we stepped outside it started to rain. We quickly went back to the desk and said that it's raining and we gave back their locks and baskets. We told them if it stops raining that we would be back. Unfortunately it rained all day. The next day we noticed that they charged us for the full day. We never even checked out the bikes or sat on them. We asked to get our refund and the woman at the counter said that the owner Nick will call us, which he never did. Now I have file complaints and work with the hotel managent to get my money back, plus file a complaint with BBB and my credit card company. Rented two bike with child seats for the week. Both bikes were very old. Both child seats were damaged. On the third day one chain came off one of the bikes and was damaged. I had to walk 2-miles home with my 3-year old. When I called the store to let them know the person I spoke to was unapologetic and said they would only deliver a new bike if the broken bike was picked up. After the broken bike was found they did in fact deliver a new bike to us. This one was in no better shape. The child seat was bent and rubbed against the back wheel. We tried to fix it and bend it back but we're unsuccessful. The friction made it nearly impossible to ride. We have been to HH every year for the last 15 years. We have rented bikes from Pedals every year. That's ~$750 we have given them. Something Hs changed there. The customer service was not great. We did not appreciate being scolded for their bike leaving us stranded! The bikes all seem to be old. Lots and lots of options to rent bikes on the island. We spent forever searching for a rental bikes that wouldn't cost $50 per day and finally came across Pedals. Only $12 to rent bikes for a day, which is considerably less than the competition. I appreciate that they put the customer above profit and provided us with a cheaper service so that we could enjoy biking around the island without breaking the bank. The employees were warm and welcoming, and the bikes were amazing to boot! Would recommend to anyone looking for a cheaper rental option. read more

We came by this shop at 4.55 to rent bikes for a few days. The shop closes at 5.00 pm and they said they had closed out for the day and we would have to come back in the morning. I have rented from Pedals for 4 years while visiting Hilton Head. They are a great business run by thoughtful people. They do what they say they will do, deliveries of bikes on time and in perfect working order. Last year 2020, i departed Hilton Head 6 weeks earlier than planned due to covid and Nick (owner) wrote up a receipt with a credit for me to use when i returned. I am here this year (2021) and he honored the credit - had my receipt handily and was quite cheerful to welcome me back. If there's one thing you have to do on HHI, it's rent a bike! At first, I was skeptical-- I haven't been on a bike in years-- but seeing everyone ride around on bikes I started to want to. And HH is a great place to get back on a bike: they have something like 20 miles of paved bike paths on the island, not to mention the 12 miles of beach that you can ride on at low tide! Pedals was closest to our resort, so we rented bikes for a day for $12 and opted for helmets ($3) even though most people weren't wearing them. Baskets and crappy locks included! Most of the companies rent out coasters; multiple gears aren't really necessary because the paths are so flat. The bikes were in good condition, and we understood why people rent them for the whole week, which I would definitely do if I returned to HH. You can get mostly everywhere by bike. Riding on the beach at sunset was truly a memorable experience! read more

This is a great place to go and rent bikes when you're down at Hilton Head. The prices are comparable to everyone else that rents. They provide free pick-up and delivery, free basket and a free lock. (Make sure you do lock up your bikes). The people there were very friendly and the drop-off was SUPER fast. The bikes we got were like brand new. They were so nice, I wanted to take mine home back to Chicago. We even got a large size bike for my hubby (who is 6'6"). None of the other places offered larger bikes in their ads. The only complaint I have is that the locks were horrible. The bikes were like new, the locks seemed ancient. They were so hard to work it took a while to get the bikes unlocked (for both of us). Still the overall service is excellent and the bikes fabulous. read more

First off, I've been using yelp for a long time, and have never been compelled to actually write a review. When vacationing in HH, it's very useful to rent a bike to get around. After checking around a bit for rates and locations, I decided to go to Pedals and was not disappointed. I had a great conversation with one of the employees when checking out my bike. The bike itself was sturdy and comfortable. The thing that really set them apart happened the day before my bike was set to be picked up (They also will pick up your bike for you so you don't have to drop it off!). As I was locking up my bike, the lock broke. I gave them a call to let them know and within 10 minutes they had someone drop off a new lock for me! Great customer service that really set them apart. Don't bother asking this bike shop for anything not extremely routine. They refused to rent us "tag-a-longs" also branded as "trail-a-bikes", even though they had plenty of them. They said they would only do so if we rented their cruisers to go with them -- period. We opted for another shop who met our needs. Pedals also refused to rent us a Weehoo smaller kid tag-a-long with seat back and seat belt ... even though they had three in their inventory (which we re-confirmed). Again, we opted for another shop who met our needs. If the owner/manager had not embarrassed himself with his arrogance, I wouldn't have bothered to write this review, but it was just over the top. They have competition, and I'd advise you to check with them first. We won't be back. read more

Bikes were of very poor quality compared to the others on the Island, rusty, ripped seats, poor brakes, etc. We had reservations for 6 bikes with two pick up dates and they picked them all up early leaving us without a means of transportation until they returned them the following day (have not received promised credit). Be sure to ask when they will be picked up, we had assumed that we would have them for a full day on our last day but they picked them up before 10AM, again messing up our plans. read more
