This was one of the funnest parts of our trip! The room we did was outstanding and very well designed. It was also GIANT! I wish we would have brought a larger group with us because I feel like the experience would have been even better with more people. The clues and puzzles were diverse and fun! We have done multiple escape rooms in the past and the secrets hidden in this room were much more elaborate and extensive than the rooms we have done in other cities (and you can't beat the price...a room like this in Kansas City would cost at least double.) It's also in a GREAT location! Just wandering in the area we managed to find tons of great shopping, a chocolate factory and a ton of places to eat! You could easily spend a day there! It even looked like they had a party room!!! We will definitely be back to try the rest of the rooms next time we are in Brooklyn!

Escape room #67…read more Simply, I had a great time! The room setup was very well done and immersive; from the time we entered the room until we escaped, the tension was high. Cooperation is key for this room as you are split up when you start. It is very easy to lose sight of your goal and l lose precious minutes from the quick 60 you are given. The puzzles were fun, unique, and challenging. The game master told us a few puzzles were altered since opening and I'm very happy they were! They require physical gestures similar to things you may see in a horror movie franchise (you figure it out). Also, I've never been told I was going to have to break an item during the course of our escape (Yippee!!) There were only a few drawbacks for me. 1) I wish we were blindfolded going into the rooms. This would have added to the suspense when we take them off and see for the first time where we've been taken. 2) The game master had to come in and provide a tool that was either not placed during set up or taken by the previous group. 3) While I appreciate the guidance, clues should be reserved for those times when someone asks for them. They knock the competition out of the park. 8 of us did "Montauk" and it was outstanding. Easily the #1 escape room in nyc and nationally in the top 10%. The degree of immersion and the thoughtfulness of the sets are a big win. Also minimal use of combo locks and the rooms did not feel linear, with people making progress on different puzzles at the same time. The mood is also fantastic with 1980s vibes and stranger things fans will appreciate some of the design elements. The tech was very creative and challenged your senses and forced coordination and teamwork! Lots of fake blood, creepy clowns, and even some jump scares built in. Definitely use your brain and think outside the box!! The puzzles were really unique. The only feedback I have is some of the puzzles were a bit wonky probably because a lot of people have been touching them so there are things that should be tuned up or fixed. Trying not to spoil so I'll try to be as vague as I can while giving feedback. So there's one puzzle where you have to smell things but everything smelled like the same rotten/rancid smell so my team members and I content differentiate the scents and had to randomly guess instead of actually solving the puzzle. There's another puzzle where you have to turn something but it was wonky from wear and tear and the tracks on them were worn down. Paul was our game master, and did a great job. He also said this room was the hardest one and the scariest one out of them all.

Overall it was a relatively non-linear escape with decent tech and only 2 combination locks (a big complaint of mine are escape rooms with over reliance on combo locks). My only complaints were that it felt a touch dated and some of the audio cues were hard to hear. Very cool digital tech but the monitors look very aged. It's also fairly dark and we used our phone lights at times. Difficulty 3/5 Tech 4/5 Story/ immersion 4/5 Overall I would put this one in the top 50% of all escape rooms. For nyc I would say it would be in the top quartile.
