I went to the The Pedestrian Shop at 1425 Pearl Street in Boulder today. I told the female clerk that the shoes I was buying there was $20 less at the Stegmann's Shoe Company. She said they would match that price if I could prove that to her. I said I had a piece of paper in my car that had a photo of those Stegmann shoes and the price on it. I asked her if I got it for her would she give me the discount and match the Stegmann price. She said she would. I walked back to my car and got it, and she then told me it wasn't the same shoe when they were identical. I had the photo there to show her. She was very rude to me and refused to honor what she had said about matching the price. This is an inappropriate way to treat a customer. Please respond to my complaint. Rita read more

I purchased Lems primal 3 shoes online on Feb 19th. I wore them on a 4 day work trip (think walking through airports, and around town a bit) and they were blown out in multiple spots, and the laces coming apart. Obviously really poorly made. I reached out to the shop to see if they could help and they told me they'd put in a warranty claim with Lems. About a month later I checked in and they said they were still waiting to hear back. I'm sitting here yet another month later and haven't heard anything. I've never bought a pair of $120 shoes that lasted 4 days and I was stuck with. Won't be purchasing from this shop or buying Lem(on)s again. read more

review for the Pedestrian Shop on Pearl Street in Boulder, CO. I called the store looking for a replacement Birkenstock sandal in size 37, narrow footbed. I had purchased the shoes 6 weeks prior at the same store and needed a replacement due to over eager puppy teeth! The phone was answered by a young, snippy boy who immediately informed me that they did not carry that specific shoe. I pleasantly told him that I had purchased the shoe at his store 6 weeks prior and needed to replace them. He continued to argue that I had to be mistaken; either I didn't know how to tell a narrow fit, etc. rather than simply checking inventory. He finally checked and, of course, the shoe was not in stock. When I requested a manager he told me, " That would be me" so I hung up the phone and ordered the shoe online. I also called their sister store at another location and reported the experience. The person I spoke with was very nice and said she was one of the owners and address the problem. Since narrow width Birkenstocks are difficult to find she wasn't able to replace the shoes, but our conversation left a more positive impression. read more

I was BLOWN AWAY by the great customer service I experienced with Pedestrian Shops. While I didn't physically visit their store in Boulder, I placed an online order with them as a first-time customer during the coronavirus pandemic. I ordered two pairs of minimalist running shoes which arrived in a reasonable amount of time (5 days which I consider reasonable shipping by USPS during the pandemic). Prices were reasonable, especially since I used a promotional code that they offered. One pair of shoes was unfortunately slightly too big, so I emailed Pedestrian Shops about doing an exchange. They responded quickly and offered to drop off my replacement pair at my doorstep! I only needed to wait a day before I had my replacement pair in my hands. So as soon as I found this add I drove to their Village store to find out that it is false advertising, also and to be treated like dirt by their employee. We stopped here to purchase some Lems, I was looking at the Primal 2s which they did have in stock. The associate asked if I've seen the primal zens and I had let them know I really wanted the 2s. They found my size and brought it out but I found that the 2s had a weird tread that was very unlike the Boulder boot and I wasn't happy about it. The associate brought up the zens again and we tried a set out. They fit so much better and I'm so glad they pushed me to consider them! Lems are tough to order online from due to the return policy so I'm super glad to have access to Pedestrian Shops to try them on before purchasing! read more

I don't have a shoe store like this near me so I stopped in while in Boulder, great selection! I have an issue with one of my feet and Jes, the sales person really went out of their way to find shoes/sandals to help me accommodate that. We didn't have success but it wasn't for a lack of trying! Rather than being disappointed in the lack of a sale Jes was completely cool about it, they knew I wanted to walk out with a pair of shoes that day! I have found shoes here in the past and recently found some for my husband. Having done some of the work in advance at the small Folsom store near McGuckins, with their great staff but smaller stock selection, we headed off to downtown the next day. The shoes I had looked at in advance for him ended up not being comfortable and the staff member helping us just had no ideas of what else to show us. So I went through their mens section checking out the quality leather shoes I had not seen before. Having a lot of retail experience myself, I was surprised there was not a second staff person available to help, more experienced with the stock than the first, or apparently not at all, given a couple of waiting customers. Turns out they were off the floor not doing sales at the moment and did finally return to help. Little local stores like this usually do best with good staffing. I found some great shoes for him myself though, good fit of a trendier brand but on clearance so a really good value. This was not in the back end sale area where there are lots of good deals, but mixed into the new stock. The sample on the wall was a little big but otherwise just what we were looking for. We asked the staff member to check for one half size smaller, it fit perfectly and we bought it. By the time we paid there was another, perhaps more experienced staff member, helping the waiting customers. This is a store always worth checking for good quality shoes. read more

I have a love / hate relationship with the Pedestrian. Like many women, I love shoes. Love 'em! I have terrible feet though so it can be tricky finding shoes that feel good and don't make me look like I should be nominated for What Not to Wear. The extra large, shoe-filled windows of the Pedestrian lure me in every time. They specialize in comfy shoes so half the work of finding the right shoe is done. The next step is to find the cute ones, and honestly, it isn't hard. My feet prefer Dansko (who doesn't own at least a pair of these in Boulder?), Think!, Sofft, Wolky, Hafflinger and Keen. So that's the love half of the equation. The down-side is that the service can be slow and quite rude sometimes. I once brought in a friend from out of town and the guy helping us (he might have been a manager/owner) was so curt and rude, I felt bad for bringing my friend in and subjecting her to such treatment. She *was* going to buy a pair but didn't in the long run because she just wanted to leave the shop. The other "star-reducer" is that they tend to price their shoes high. I can usually find the shoes I want cheaper at other shops or online, even with the coupon included on their website. There are times when the sale shoes at Pedestrian win the price war, but not all that often. read more

The store has a great selection of both men and women's shoes, but the prices smell and reek of fresh skinned leather and cowboys (in my mind that means expensive). This is not the shop to find stilettos and sequins... Unless Dankso and Earth just started a new "Hippies Gone Wild" style... You will find shoes here that are comfortable on the feet, body, earth and soul... But not so comfortable on your wallet. I tried on a pair of Born's at the store all by myself and I had nobody there to give me an honest opinion. I took a picture of the flat Mary-Janes and sent the picture to my good friend Brianna who lives in that big city called New York. I asked her if I should buy them... She didn't respond fast enough and I had an impulse buy and I bought them and just left... Knowing I could definitely find the same shoes online for cheaper... I got out to my car and hear my phone beeping... and notice that she responded to my message and said, "Naaa, they look too orthopedic." I ended up keeping the shoes and get ton's of compliments on them. I wear them all over the place and when I wear them my boyfriend is still taller than me, which is a boost to his ego of course. The website gives you a coupon, but you don't have to bother printing it out, they will give it to you anyway in the store. This is what I got when trying to buy shoes for my daughter. Perhaps it was an overreaction on my part but I dropped the shoes on the floor and walked out. I just don't get Pedestrian Shops. An earlier reviewer suggested maybe it's a mob front. That would make sense, except it doesn't need to be a mob front because for some reason people actually shop there, deal with the smarmy staff, and pay the exorbitant prices! Last summer I was looking for hiking sandals and I decided to stop in there and try on some Chacos. The guy who helped me rolled his eyes a little when I didn't immediately intuit how to tighten the complex straps, but he did help me with them. Then, after I walked around the store and decided, actually, that I liked them and would probably buy them, I decided to ask him a simple question. "Are these straps supposed to hang so far down after you tighten them? They're getting underfoot. Do you think I could cut them?" This prompted him to say something to me which would become much mocked and quoted among my friends: "True Chaco enthusiasts, you know, the ones who climb fourteeners, say that that doesn't bother them at all. The sole's just so sturdy that you don't even slip." Okay, who is wearing Chacos to climb fourteeners? And what is a 'true Chaco enthusiast'? And who cares if it doesn't bother them, it bothers me. And also you didn't answer my question. Anyway, I ended up getting them at Boulder Running Company for about a 30% lower price, despite the fact that Pedestrian Shop's price was AFTER a coupon reduction. Since I apparently don't learn my lesson, this winter, I was shopping around for waterproof winter boots and I decided to stop in Pedestrian Shops to see what they had. Surprise: they had about 15 pairs of boots, two of which were waterproof, both of which were over $200, and none of which were given a word of promotion by the silent staff, who simply stood staring suspiciously until asked a direct question. read more

This may not be my cup of tea, since I didn't have a horrible experience I will average in at 3 stars. This place is nestled on Pearl Street among some other fabulous shops. I've been on the lookout for a pair of fashion boots as well as a pair of waterproof boots since it appears to be snowing a lot this season. The people working there were not overly friendly and did not acknowledge us while we were there, that was a little weird. I've worked in customer service and definitely know what it should look like. The variety was okay, very pricey for my taste. We decided to venture else wear without purchasing anything. This shop has been around for as long as I've lived in/been visiting Boulder. I truly appreciate this shop for their selection, knowledge, and the constant willingness of the staff to help out. I and my family have bought numerous products from the Shop, with nary a problem in fitment, quality, or service. My only complaint, if any, is that the high-quality products they carry demand higher prices than I would prefer! We walked into Pedestrian Shops with an unsolvable puzzle: one pair of boots to take us on a two year trip around the world, with a whole litany of other needs they also had to fill in their 24 month tour of duty. Gus, of course, knew none of this when he cheerfully offered his assistance. We broke the news and he rose to the occasion with several great recommendations, not the least of which is that we would have to find somewhere to compromise. This was by far the most comprehensive and knowledgeable conversation we have had regarding one of the most important decisions of our upcoming adventure, and it was extremely helpful. I would like to be a fan of this store but the staff is not helpful and is borderline rude. They always say that they have the smallest shoe out for display, but I know that's not quite right because I've asked if they had a smaller size in many of the shoes that they carry and when they go back to check they always came back with a smaller size. I asked one staff member and he just refused to check, stating that the smallest size is always on display. I expected a more helpful and genuinely friendly staff. Truth is, they eat and talk to each other way too much and aren't eager to truly help customers. Too bad :( I was only aware of one location, being the Pearl St. one but apparently there is another one on Folsom that has a friendly staff so I may check that one out. read more

I have shopped at Pedestrian Shops in Boulder for many years and have always appreciated the high quality and selection of shoes. My experience last week was absolutely great during my purchase. The young gal was so helpful (I wish I knew her name) and since I couldn't decide on which shoes would go with my dress and another outfit, she told me to take several home and return which ones I didn't want when I returned from my weekend. I was so happy she encouraged me to do so as I was able to chose the two pairs that worked best. When I returned from my weekend, I immediately returned three pairs that didn't work. When I arrived in the store, I told an associate I needed to make a return. She looked so annoyed and didn't say a word to me the entire time during the return. It made me feel so uncomfortable and turned my happy shoe buying experience at Ped Shops into a regretful one. Please store manager, tell your sales people to be kind. Especially when people are returning shoes that have never been worn. OR just don't have your sales people tell people to take them home to try on. Ok, that happens, he's pre-occupied at the moment. I continue to walk around and check out their selection. I went to Boulder for a short visit, without adequate shoes for mountain hiking. Decided to go hiking and went to Pedestrian Shop for advice on which shoes to get. I purchased a pair of Dansko upon advice of staff and was told I would be fine to climb. I developed the worse blisters that as of July 10th I still am unable to wear any 'tie' shoes. I called and was informed the 10 day return policy is strictly enforced, that the staff should have told me I could only wear them around house, not outside as they would not take back shoes worn outside nor after 10 days. I have no recourse, can't play 'she said' over the phone, so am stuck with shoes I paid $113.00 and bought on advice from staff knowing they were to go hiking in mountains during my short trip. read more

There's a reason that this store has been here forever (I think 30 years or so), and it is because they have the best selection in Boulder. I am a runner, and I was really thrilled that they have started carrying running shoes. I was surprised that they didn't carry these until recently, but I saw New Balance and Saucony. They told me that they would be probably carrying Brooks soon too. They just redesigned their website, and they offer free shipping, which is great, because my Dad orders his Birkenstocks from this store and has them shipped to him. Their site is really nice now. Anyways, every time I have been in the Pedestrian Shops for shoes or socks, their staff has always been very helpful and eager to assist me. read more

I stopped into Pedestrian Shoes this evening to purchase a pair of hiking boots. Two women were behind the counter, both of whom ignored me until I asked a question. No other customers were present. One of the women led me to the boots and immediately turned and began to walk away. I asked her if she could find someone to help me and she asked me what I wanted? Her whole demeanor said to me that she could absolutely give a crap about me finding the right boots, and she walked away again. The other woman in the store did not acknowledge me once during the time I was in the store. I bought a pair of boots but decided to return them tomorrow and spend my very hard earned money where customer service means something. As for service, I do understand what some of the other reviewers have said...however it seems to be steadily improving over the last year or so. Phenomenal customer service! I purchased a pair of Merrell hiking boots over the summer and they started to have a very annoying squeak every time my heel hit the ground. I went in just to see if there may be any adjustment that could be made to them. The Pedestrian Shop is a local establishment and has been around for as long as I remember! This is the place I go when looking for a high quality, comfortable shoe. I've never had anything but great service-the salespeople are very knowledgeable about the wide variety of styles, fits, etc. Sure, you pay more than you might for other shoes, but they sell the types of shoes that last FOREVER, and the prices seem comparable to other stores for the same brands, etc. The selection of more fashion forward yet still comfy, quality shoes has really improved over the last few years.
