I actually had seen some favorable all Italian reviews in Tripadvisor previously and it was getting late so I walked in. Not only were they welcoming they were super happy I came in. Looking for traditional Bolognese eats I scanned the menu. Tortellini in brodo and Spiedone Castello (carne misti) were the choices. Tortellini were perfectly cooked, brodo well seasoned and added some formaggio on top to make it super savory. The spiedone came with lamb, beef. pork and sausage. The pork might have been a bit over but the rest were excellent. It came on a very light potato puree which mopped up the carne juices nicely. Good crust on the outside of the meats to boot. Sitting outside on a 18 degree C night is perfect. You overlook the town castle which aptly names the restaurant. 4.25 stars

The decor is of of the more quirky I've seen in Bologna with a Tangram-like mobile hanging from the ceiling and with light, organic hues across the walls. We ordered two of their house wines (both white), and both were crisp and paired well with the pastas. My husband and I shared the following, and the staff were sweet enough to separate every dish into two portions before bringing them out: - Cold tomato soup with basil pesto and anchovies: the temperature was perfect, the tomato and basil strong in flavoring, but wow, to an unaccustomed tongue, those anchovies were painfully salty. If you're not already a fan of pickled anchovies, stir them into the soup for collateral flavor, but let them be otherwise. - Beef Tortellini: what a rich just smooth and light broth! The tortellini were adorably tiny (sorry if that doesn't matter), and their itty bitty selves stuffed with beef were great. - Tagliatelle Bolognese: standard bolognese to be found in Bologna. Nothing special, but nothing negative at all. After we paid the check, we realized we'd been charged the typical 4 - 6 Euros for water we hadn't ordered. We ignored it since they hadn't charged to split our plates, and we trusted it to be completely unintentional, but keep an eye out in case they accidentally do it to you, too.
