Forgot to take pictures of the food before eating it because it was just so GOOD! I ordered a Caprese Panini and a Raspberry Rhubarb Hand Pie. The Caprese Panini was AMAZING. The cheese was smooth and very stretchy and the flavors were all there. The hand pie was so flaky that it stuck to my chapstick. You can tell the pies were made fresh. We stopped by after seeing tulips. Located in downtown near the co-op is Pegasus Pie, a cute modern coffee and pie shop. They are currently have construction so there isn't much room to sit inside. We ordered a rhubarb pie and a toffee chocolate chip cookie. One review said it was better than Snohomish Pie Co. The crust and crunchy crumble does make me love this pie more too! I was surprised! But the contrast of soft filling with the flaky crust and crunchy topping was delicious! The cookie was a bit too sweet for me, I'd order a plain chocolate chip one in the future. We wanted a good Marionberry Pie for Thanksgiving, I knew exactly where to go for that, I had tried a small Pegasus Pie earlier this year, so I went back in to see what I could find. I ordered a 9" pie and picked it up the next day. The price of the pie was a little shocking at first, but after considering the downtown Mount Vernon location, the quality of the pie, and that they most likely pay their employees a living wage, I gladly paid it. After telling my son how much the pie was he stated "it better be life changing". Well I am here to say that the Marionberry pie was a life changing experience, one of the best pies I've had since my grandmother passed away 20 years ago, and she made really good berry pies. The crust is soooo good, just perfect, and the consistency of the pie filling was spot on, and held up for days after without drying out. I was also impressed with the bakery back behind the scenes, I would have asked for a tour if the weren't so busy. I chose a veggie hand pie while my husband got a veggie samosa one. They both were outstanding!! We liked that the pies were well filled with tasty vegetables and gravy. What really stands out about the pies here is the unbelievably flaky, buttery crust! It is almost like a croissant with the golden layers that easily flake off. These bakers know how to make pie crust ultra buttery. For dessert we shared a strawberry rhubarb hand pie which was the best I've ever eaten. I purchased a small pie at the Anacortes Farmer's Mkt and was very disappointed in the lack of filling. The pie was mostly crust and very little fruit. The owner did not get back with me after 2 messages left for her. When I finally went into the store to talk to her she was completely unconcerned about my issue and had no interest in me as a customer. I left there very annoyed and will not go back or recommend this business. This is a beautiful store front in old downtown MV. It probably has some good product. This is a nice little place. When we were there a lot of people came in to look but left. Service was excellent, with a lot of help. We went mid-afternoon and they only had a little bit of savory pies, bought a hand pie to bring home. Then we split a mini pecan pie with coffee and ate it there. The crust on the pie was excellent, the pecan filling very good. They do now have soup and had 2 different ones available today. I will go back just to have this alone! Great house-made bread (toasted) with avocado, sweet cherry tomatoes, fresh basil, feta cheese, and balsamic vinegar drizzled on top. It was so good. 4/5 stars is only because of the prices, which seem a bit on the high side. Example: the peanut butter cookies, albeit large, were $4 each. After a quick Google search and a need for a pie I found Pegasus pies. So I drove from Arlington to Mount Vernon to get a pie. As a specialty store I figured this would be the perfect place to buy one. Well, it turns out they don't have pies for sale. You have to order them in advance. A pie store with no pies. I admit I'm an old gen X guy so I expect pies in a pie store. Not unlike a liquor store having liquor, or a butcher having meat, Chinese restaurant having Chinese food etc. Maybe this is some pronoun thing where you can just identify as to what you want to be. "I'm a pie store". Sell pies? "Nope", but I identify as a pie store. Whatever, I'll buy something at Haggens. read more
