Sadly, the food was mediocre, at best. I imagine, as a business, they're also wasting so much money on portion sizes. Huge meals do not equate to quality. I really wanted to love it because it's a family restaurant but there was a lot left to be desired. A *half* order of two gigantic biscuits completely fills the plate! I really enjoyed my french toast (a huge plate all by itself), three scrambled eggs and two delicious oversized sausage patties. This was the *small* version of this particular breakfast, by the way! My husband had the steak and eggs with potatoes and he was quite pleased with his choice. This thing is a monster. Loaded is an understatement. This plate was chock full of goodness. I tasted the biscuit without butter. So warm, fresh, soft and delicious! It's been almost 20 years since I last visited Mr T's cafe with my dad. Seasons have come and gone taking my dad along the way. Mr T's was always a mandatory breakfast stop I looked forward to enjoying after AAU basketball games in Mount Vernon. Parking space and table space is limited so I suggest coming early. Ok... so look, we had the chicken fried steak breakfast, and I have to explain all of this experience. First, you check in at a window before you're seated, then they seat you. The coffee was great, even my husband who doesn't like coffee much liked it. The chicken fried steak was good, not amazing, gravy was yummy, sausage, maybe homemade which was cool. Hash browns were crispy, and well cooked, and the scrambled eggs were fluffy. The real gem here though was David our server, he was attentive, kind, and so cool with everyone in the cafe, he knew the regulars and made sure our coffee was full. In the end, food 4 stars, but David made it 5 stars. Great place for hangover morning food if you know what I mean. read more

I was looking for a place to stop on our way to Oak Harbor and this place checked all the boxed. En Route, fair prices, high reviews and large portions. A few reviews talked about the decline of this place which mostly sounded to be the result of new ownership. Covid shut a lot of doors and sounds like previous owners decided they had enough hustling and sold. My first mistake was assuming this would be the size of most breakfast spots. The footprint was small and even though we showed up early, there was a line outside. At a quarter before the hour, we were told it would be a 10-minute wait and 25 minutes later, we were behind schedule and placed a to go order. Listen, it's your business, know the flow, being of at a 3x wait time is inexcusable. No one was rude, but it was clear, they didn't know how to handle a crowd. Also, the tiny parking lot was full and we didn't see a disabled spot. Ironically when waiting for our order, someone left revealing a spot with a 85% faded disabled symbol painted on the ground. I believe the law states in order for a spot to be disabled, you must have a sign, but there was no sign and the person who parked there either did so deliberately, or unintentionally because the business lot is not compliant. The food was good, and the portions are big, you are not going to leave here hungry. Had this place been the size of a respectable restaurant. There wouldn't have been a long wait, and our experience would have been much improved. I'd like to say I'd return, but I'd be too nervous about parking and seating. The lot across the street was half full and that business was closed, parking there would not have been an option should they have been open. There is no room to expand here, this place need to relocate to a larger footprint to accommodate demand. This place could and should have been a 5 star experience, but they earned this 4. read more

After visiting the gardens, daffodil, and tulip fields at Roozengaarde in Mount Vernon, I was craving something breakfast/brunch and substantial for the teenage Homie's appetite. Found Mr. T Family Cafe with my trusty Yelp app with easy peasy road directions (4/14/21). Parking was getting full, clearly a destination. Checked in at the front window, luckily there was a two top available and suitably distanced. Seated with flatware, ice water, and menus from the get go. The Homie ordered steak, over easy eggs, hash browns, and homemade biscuit. I ordered corned beef hash minus the green peppers, over easy eggs, hash browns, and homemade biscuit. Goodness when the homemade, warm biscuits were brought out with butter and jam packets..omg, bigger than a pair of softballs! Food was brought out promptly, generous portions...plentiful that most of the hash browns and both biscuits had to be brought home. The Homie noted this morning that half of the biscuit remained tasty, the other half for later. My biscuit was well wrapped and placed in the freezer for much later. Pleasant, welcoming, efficient host and wait staff. Amazing kitchen crew able to keep up with onsite and takeout orders. Guaranteed to get you in/out in good time to clear the table for others on the wait list. Definitely no lollygagging, eat and go. Big food, easily 2 to 3 servings worth. We'll be back since we eyed the giant pancakes! Don't know the history of Mr. T, but nothing to do with heavily chained, mohawked actor from the A Team, lol. Mt. Perhaps it was an off day or something, but while there was certainly a LOT of food it was distinctly lacking in flavor.
