Pretty good combination of gun store with some Army/Navy surplus stuff. The displays, both inside and out, were very extensive and impressive. There was a full size jeep inside the store (and another one outside). Unfortunately, most of the really cool stuff was just for display and not for sale. Gun and ammo selection is great. Well above average for an independent gun shop. I was not too impressed with the large knife area; there was some good stuff but also a lot of cheap junk knifes of the 'fantasy' variety (not serious 'using' knives) which seems out of character with the rest of the store. read more

Great selection of guns and ammo at a very fair price. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. I especially liked their selection of used and antique guns. Picked up a .22 LR, the JC Higgins model 25 rifle for plinking in excellent condition. These were originally sold through the Sears, Roebuck & Co catalog until about 1962. It was a great find for me. When you are finally able to get someone to help you out they're usually rude to you! It's a shame that they don't appreciate the customer base more, they act like they're doing you a favor to sell you a gun that's 10% -15% higher than other shops. read more

If I could give this business zero stars I would. Tried to have a gun shipped here from Missouri SINCE DECEMBER but no one ever answers the phone. Finally contacted them by email and they denied hearing my voicemail asking them to send FFL to the Missouri gun shop prior to shipping. Told me they would email the info to Missouri gun shop. Still waiting. Missouri gun shop also has tried calling. Guess this place has enough customers and doesn't give a crap about getting or keeping new ones. What a joke. read more

Pekin Gun is well known for its vast selection of firearms. I purchased my first shotgun there many years ago and subsequently sold it back to them for what I felt was a decent price. Recently it seems their customer service is hit or miss. Maybe it's because they aren't hungry for business, or their tiny store is too crowded to navigate to help customers. I don't know. I don't have any bad experiences, but it's not uncommon to walk in, peruse the merchandise and walk back out without anyone speaking. I appreciate local businesses who trade fairly, and I like their selection of military surplus and anything firearm related, but sometimes I'd like someone to say "how ya doin? Well, this is an odd review to be writing, but I was so pleased with this store that I feel that I must write it up. I also have to let my inner-gun nut out. Upon entering the store, I was overwhelmed. There was just too much stuff. Wall to wall to wall rifles and shotguns and glass cases almost overflowing with pistols. Not just rifles and shotguns and pistols... but REALLY well priced rifles and shotguns and pistols. At 4:30 on a Saturday afternoon (30 minutes before closing) the place was just crazy. I had never seen so many people in a gun store at once. The original intention was to get boots for my girlfriend, she wants some good winter boots and I suggested the new GI Boots (not the big leather ones, but the canvas ones. I believe they're called panama boots). So, we looked up an Army Navy Surplus store and this was the closest. We made a trip out and found great prices, great people and great selection. She didn't get the boots, which were about $15 cheaper than from the Army-Navy Surplus Store in Downers Grove, due to not having her tiny foot size. But I did spend a good 45 minutes looking around. The staff was kind and helpful, even though they were busy they took the time to talk to me. The customers, as well, were kind and helpful and I found myself talking with customers about products the store carried. Unfortunately, they did not have the Mossberg 500 Stock that I needed, but they instantly offered to order one and have it by Tuesday for me. They answered any and all questions quickly, courteously and accurately. I know that Pekin is a haul for some of us to get out there, but for anyone in Morton, Peoria or Pekin that needs anything firearm related: this is the place. I'll even drive out there to make my next purchase. Being a history nut, as well, I found myself overwhelmed by the C&R rifles they had and the CAS firearms. I'd never seen so many Uberti, Cimarron and Pietta handguns in one place, and at prices that can't be beat online, either. They stocked every single surplus weapon you could imagine, as well. Mosins, Schmidt-Rubens, Garands, Mausers... you name it: they had it. If you're a history nut, gun nut, need some cheap surplus gear, ammo... anything and you're in Central Il and the trip isn't too much: this is the place. The knives, though... Waited a month for a gun to be shipped from Pennsylvania, they did not send or verify their ffl license for a week so the gun was never shipped. Once this problem was fixed the gun was sent then only to be told four days consecutively that it has not been received yet. Called the shipping ffl dealer and verified it was received and who signed for it. Miraculously the gun appears to have been received. So I waited almost a month because of their mistakes and them not verifying with the shipper. Seems like if your not spending money with them then good luck it's not a priority. Won't spend another dime in their establishment. read more

Workers never pick up the phone if they do they will put you on hold for a very long time or forget about you. Then if they say they close at 6pm it will probably be more 5:40 or 5:50 they actually close. I work in lincoln IL and talked to a gentleman that said I had todo some paper, I told I couldn't make it until 5:40pm or 5:50pm. I Pulled up at 5:45pm and they were locked up and all walking out. Kinda upsetting after a working all day then raceing to pekin then having that happen. read more

Awesome selection. Store is impressive. The most ak type rifles ive seen for sale at one store. Unfortunately the gentleman that helped me wasn't very knowledgeable about ak's and was giving me info that was Incorrect. He was calling wasr rifles yugos. When i corrected him he wanted to argue with me. It's one thing not to know about every gun in the store, its another to argue with the customer and act like you know it all, when clearly you dont. Would have bought a maadi they had but guy was a dick and price was high for the condition of the rifle so i never even made an offer. I came to buy, they prevented that from happening. The first time I stepped into the shop I got dizzy .The selection of firearms is one of the best I've ever seen and priced right ! they have every thing from starter guns and collector items with a selection of classics and conceal items . I drive 1hr 45 min each way and it has always been worth the trip .They also have reloading supplies and advice for a novice like me .Very friendly and experienced staff . read more

I've been a patron for somewhere around 20 years. It all started with discounted military surplus clothing we all saved our allowances up for as kids. Then our means increased in high school, and we moved up to paintguns. I suppose it's a relatively basic progression, but now the real guns keep us coming back. With a Democrat in the White House, it's easy to see why Pekin Gun is so busy. The past few times I've been in, they've been very helpful, despite their business. They offer a nice selection of the usual stock as well as many used hand and long guns. Prices are fair, too. Worth a visit for sure whether you're in the market or just looking. read more

They would rather u look and look and not buy till u find what u like not just settle of what's in stock they never pressure u to buy... They are all very well informed on most all guns and ammo... I bought a used firearm (Remington 270BDL LH, late 1970s build) from them I saw they had it on Gunbroker. It was a private sale outside of GB since I contacted them directly and we cut a deal. The price we negotiated was OK, however, there were a couple of issues with the sale. Firstly, they never mentioned that the gun I bought was obviously reconditioned. Newly blued and newly wood finished. (the re-finishing filled in all of the checkering with lacquer) Not a huge deal, as the finishes were generally nicely done, but they should have mentioned that in the auction. It is hard to see in photos. In addition, the gun was inoperable after I received it. It took a while to figure it out, but whoever reconditioned the rifle and Pekin bought it from, reassembled the rifle incorrectly installing the magazine box upside down. I am not a firearms expert, but since the rounds would not feed, we were not able to use it for the PA whitetail season as I had planned. Days later, it took someone smarter than me to figure it out. My daughter has a serious eye issue and while she is right handed she has to shoot lefty which is why I bought it in the first place. When I wrote to give them feedback on it, my feedback was ignored. Not even a "hey sorry, we didn't notice" or any apologies. They just blew me off. I guess they had their money so why bother. Maybe they are too busy. My advice...be sure to check out any used firearms, as they obviously do not check them for fit and function and they don't accurately represent them in my opinion. I see a lot of good reviews, but my experience was not that good. All they had to do was acknowledge the issue and say they would strive to do better. read more

Been it this place a bunch of times. The place is way too crowded to do any serious shopping. You have to wait FOREVER to get anyone to even show you a gun with all the tire kickers in the place. Way to few people behind the counter and way to many too many in front. The prices are high as well. I'll never go back. But, I"m sure they couldn't care less. read more

Pekin Gun & Sport Shop is one of my favorite places to buy or trade guns. I have bought guns their for several years now. Dave and his family (son, nephews and I believe his wife) are always nice and very helpful to show you the guns that they have to offer that fits your needs. When I find someone looking for a good deal on a gun I always tell them about Pekin Gun & Sport Shop. Their inventory is incredible! Chances are that whatever you are looking for they will have it in stock. Probably several of them, so you can choose the best one. Their prices are some of the best you will find in this whole state of Illinois. I live in Bloomington and we do not have that low prices at our gun stores. So I do not mind driving 30 minutes to save myself $100 to $130 dollars. I do realize though that I have to make a second trip because of Illinois waiting period, BUT I like to eat at the Burger Barge which is close by, so it makes a nice time of it. read more

Called to see if they had 7.62x54r ammo yesterday and was quoted several different prices. I stopped by today and a nice lady tried to help me but kept on pulling out small pistol ammo. I tried to explain that there's a difference between 7.62x54 and 7.62x39. The lady was very nice but just lacked the knowledge to help customers. Went across the street to shipman's and had no problems with picking up the right size ammo and found a nice 20 gauge remington 11 to pickup. read more
