It was two years since my last visit. The owner or manager, whatever he is, is completely crazy. Still the rudest server I have ever seen! We came in to eat about 5:30 pm on a Friday. The place was dead. I don't think they even had a lot of take out orders. Anyway, he reluctantly seated us. Never asked if we needed anything else. I totally expected all of this, because that was his attitude two years ago. What I didn't understand was him trying to rush us out at 6:10pm. Only about 40 minutes there. It took about 20 or so for the food! Anyway he pretty much threw the bill on our table and glared. He ran away before we could request to go boxes. So we just sat there. Called again at 1130 place order and said 25 mins , I showed up in 20 minutes and he said I told her 25 minutes not 20. I came here with 4 other ppl, and when we walked in, it was totally empty and FREEZING inside. We had to ask for chips and duck sauce. Every other time, we automatically got that when you sit down. Whoever is now overseeing this establishment needs management classes in customer service. The young guy is rude. He does nothing to propel this business forward. In my opinion he has damaged the reputation of this business. Having spoken to several previous customers, it appears my experience was commonplace. I have been a 20 plus year customer of Peking Chef. We usually order takeout several times a month. This last order ended my relationship with the business. One of the usual items in the order was chicken and broccoli, very spicy. When I picked up the order, the one ounce condiment cup was missing with the oil and spices. I requested the cup of spices and was told there is an additional charge for it. I explained this condiment always was included with the meal. The manager became irate and said there is now a charge, and you will pay for it from now on. He continued his rage yelling how expensive a one ounce condiment of spices is and began laughing when I told him to keep it, and he lost our business due to his rude and offensive behavior. He was beyond unprofessional. This was the second incident with this manager in three months. Previously, he became angry because I took three cookies instead of two with an order. We placed an order for four people!!! I just want to let potential customers beware that this business no longer shows a genuine interest in satisfying their customers. Found out why this place is now in the toilet - Mr. Lee no longer owns it. Prices up, food quality down. Worst Chinese I've ever had. Food was bland and tasteless. Spring roll looked like it was either cooked in very old oil or left in the fryer too long. The chicken and snow peas and chicken and cashew dishes were both bland. And the general tso tasted more like BBQ chicken than tso. We will never come back. read more

A swing.....and a miss! Unfortunately, the poor execution took away from the great concept. Peking Chef Express was marketed as a "Subway" version of the regular Chinese food joint. The menu is up on the wall behind the counter, prices and all, and the drinks can be found in a cooler near the door. The right call would be to have the customer enter, place their order at the counter, grab a drink from the cooler, and have the food brought to their table (which they choose, no "hostess" needed), on plastic dishes and paper cups. I entered around 1pm on Saturday and walked to the counter to place my order, and was told I needed to get a table. Once I was seated by the hostess, who might be the most confused person this side of an old-folks home, it took at least 10 minutes for the waitress to come over and take my drink order. About 5 minutes later, she returned with a bottle of diet Pepsi from the cooler and walked away again. 5 minutes more, and I had to ask if I could order. The food finally came out about 10 minutes later, with a very, very small portion for an extremely inflated price. Not to mention the food was cold and flavorless. I could've gone to ANY Chinese food place down the street for half the price and better quality, and got exactly what I had expected. This experience was enough to prevent me from returning to this location, and also think twice about giving their parent restaurant in Dallas any more of my business. The entire experience was totally off-putting. Hopefully, they improve upon the service aspect of Peking Chef Express, or they'll be packing everything up and moving it back to Dallas in a month or two. read more

I am the Chinese connoisseur of NEPA and I believe FIRMLY that this is the best Chinese establishment this area has to offer. It's not only authentic, but the quality of food is much better than your standard Chinese restaurant where the only good thing on the menu is General Tso's chicken or sweet and sour chicken... I'm a big fan of their "Happy Chicken" which is a breaded chicken (like sweet and sour), but with a sweet pineapple sauce and walnuts. The servings are not gigantic (sigh...), but I would say it's worth the price of admission. It's definitely more expensive than your generic "Happy Super Buffet World" restaurant, for sure... MY ONLY GRIPE!!! I always get steamed broccoli whenever I order Chinese... it doesn't matter where. Usually I'll pay $6 for a quart of steamed broccoli with no sauce. THIS PLACE CHARGED ME $13. WHAT. I called an hour and a half early to place my order and they refused to take it, telling me to call back at that time. Not a major thing but there was no attempt to make my order work. His negative attitude along with the mediocre food should result in the closing of the restaurant in the near future. The shrimp fried dumplings were mostly dough and were insipid . We ordered iced tea which had a very strange taste. We ordered soft drinks to replace the tea, but we were still charged for the iced tea that was undrinkable. Both Mr. Lee and his wife are most gracious whenever you dine at any of their restaurants, but when he and/or his wife are not at the Kingston location, the older gentleman there is DOWNRIGHT RUDE!! When I called to place an order back in the spring (totalling well over $250, I might add), he was very short with me, not answering "Peking Chef" when I initially called (I had to ask if this was the right number), telling me to hurry up because they were closing, and questioning why I was ordering two days in advance for pickup on MOTHER'S DAY (when I knew all the takout places at the time would be swamped). My family and I have always loved Peking Chef, but I will NEVER eat or take out from there again as a matter of principle. Not good. Been going to Peking Chef for years. For an "express" a few glaring flaws: no lunch menu & too expensive. Menu is the same as the Dallas location's dinner menu. Diners get to choose Regular (roughly $8) or large ($12). Again, no lunch menu. So for lunch I paid $8 for a small portion of General Tso's chicken on a styrofoam plate. The biggest problem was the food. The chicken was rubbery. I asked for "3 out of 4" spiciness. Not only was it not spicy, it was flavorless. Customer service was fine, even if a little confused. I'm a Chinese student studying in the US. Peking chef's dishes remind me of home. The black pepper beef is absolutely the best I've ever had! I'm gonna miss this place so much when I leave for college. The boss is really nice and always send us some new dishes to try. Make sure that you have a look at the new Chinese special menu. Food is great especially the Ho Ho Chicken and Shrimp with Brown Rice . Loaded with a variety of fresh vegetables and sauce is light and not overpowering. Small feeds two and like all dishes at Peking Chef portions are Large. Steamed dumplings are great we usually get the pork or vegetable filled. Shrimp Spring rolls are always crispy and fresh. I have been going to this restaurant for many years. The food is real, made fresh and it may be a bit more pricey than other restaurants, but you get what you pay for. I was served my meals always on real dishes, never plastic. The portions are decent, not huge, but I always end up taking mine home for the next day.
