Wow! This place is our new favorite restaurant in Collinsville! Let's start with the food. I really enjoyed the sweet and sour pork, shrimp, and chicken. The meal was filling and delicious! I loved every bite! The crab Rangoons were perfect! My wife ordered chicken and mushrooms. I had a bite and may get that on the next visit. I used to love this place years ago with it's white table cloths, etc., but it's not the same now. It cost my husband & I $85 plus tip to eat there & the food took a long time--while we were the only people in there--& it was overcooked. We ordered certain dishes only to be told they were "out" of that. It was disappointing. The serve ware was nice like I remembered, (no tablecloths), but the waitress was not welcoming or helpful. We went on Valentine's Day evening. This establishment only had one waitress for the entire restaurant!! On a special day!! No one was manning the entrance so we proceeded to walk into the dining room and talked with the lone waitress. The entire dining room was full! We waited almost 30 minutes for our water and oolong tea to be served. Seated by the windows was a bit too chilly for me. However the food was delicious!!! Fresh chicken and veggies!! We love this eclectic little place. It's in an old house downtown Collinsville, and they make wonderfully fresh Chinese food. The vegetables are always crisp and freshly cooked! We have ordered takeout many times throughout the pandemic, and not once have we been disappointed. The staff is always friendly, and their dishes have loads of flavor. We finally found the Chinese restaurant we've been looking for in the St. Louis area! From the minute we spotted this place from the outside, we knew it was going to be good. The red exterior, the steps leading up to the restaurant, and the cozy ambience inside all pointed to a special and unique dining experience. We were seated quickly and our meal was served within ten minutes. All of the dishes were served in covered platters, which made it extra special. We didn't know that they close for a few hours between lunch and dinner. The lady was kind enough to let us eat inside even though we missed the window. The food was excellent. The egg rolls are some of the best I've had. Portions are great for the price and it was very enjoyable. We ordered lunch plates of sweet and sour chicken, broccoli beef and fried rice. The sweet and sour sauce was good, not too sweet and not too thick. The broccoli beef sauce was a little darker than most places but it was still good, just a bit heavier. The food is decent but very overpriced. I have been twice now and each time something went wrong with my order. The first time I was missing some crab Rangoon when I got home and called to notify, but they just said I could pick it up. (Defeats the purpose of getting the takeout) No other offer was given to at least make it better. Second time I asked for combination chicken and shrimp fried rice but just for the shrimp to be on the side. I was charged 1.25$ per shrimp and was not notified until I got my receipt in which I had to question why the amount was so high. I paid 6 times the amount I thought it would be simply to add shrimp. Except for the following... After I get home, I realized that they forgot an order of chicken wings. I wouldn't have cared except kids love wings. So I called to tell them that my chicken wings weren't packed. They debated with me over the phone so I offered to take a photo of exactly what I got in my bag. They told me they were certain they packed it. I told them I'm certain they didn't because I'm looking at it. We went back to pick it up and they insinuated that we were lying and actually said "you can take the wings home... but I hope we don't see you again.". In no world, is sub-par Chinese food okay to be insulted so we left the food there. Like seriously? And this is spoken from someone who grew up in a Chinese restaurant, so, yes I know there are people who cheat you out of food, but this is NOT the way to deal with it. We finally got to try Peking Garden and I am so happy I could cry. Little story. I'm from Connecticut and we have incredible Chinese restaurants in my town, both eat in and take out. I'm pescatarian but don't eat shellfish so my options are limited to vegetarian. I LOVE deep fried tofu, and the Szechuan bean curd (tofu) dish was always my favorite. I thought no one could make it wrong. Moving to Collinsville I realized it's not created equal everywhere and I've had truly awful Szechuan tofu. Enter Peking Garden. I see it on their list with other deep fried tofu options. I'm hesitant because I have had nothing but inedible since moving here, but my husband and I decided to take the risk and try it. WE WERE NOT DISAPPOINTED. Peking Garden makes it just like home AND they other more than one option! I ordered the Szechuan tofu and the curry tofu dish and my husband and I could not decide which we liked most! We actually argued over who got to eat what after taste testing them. The tofu was fried to perfection and a nice color and spongy texture. The sauces were rich and the vegetables tasted fresh. This is my new go to for my deep fried tofu. This place replaced what used to be Old Peking Restaurant. When they closed up shop, these folks dropped in to pick up the location. They seem to be using most of the same stuff as Old Peking did, the dishes and most of the decor seem similar. They have walled off a portion of the restaurant with a not-so-nice looking commercial door, which takes a bit away from the original ambiance. The food, though, has not missed a beat. It is just as hot and delicious as it was as Old Peking. Good, sit-down, non-buffet, non-chain Chinese food is rare these days, this is one of the few left that really shine! read more

The best Chinese food you will ever have, served by the most caring owners in the entire world. Not only did I work on and off for Old Peking throughout college, the owners always treated me like family. Unfortunately, they closed a couple years ago. On the last night they were open I stopped in for a final meal, walked around to say goodbye to the owners, saw they were taking some pictures with aunts and uncles and siblings in the main dining room, and hung back to say my goodbyes during a picture break. This was ridiculous, apparently, and they basically "forced" me into taking some family pictures with them. The owners have a cool story. Kin Sun's husband is an American she met while he was in the service. She barely spoke any English, they were able to fall in love anyway, and she ran away from home to be with him instead of marrying the rich doctor her father had chosen for her. Eventually, her brother convinced the family to give this guy a chance, and everything ended happily ever after. I miss Old Peking! They always served us dinner before the evening shift, and I tried literally everything on the menu. It was all awesome. There is a new Chinese restaurant in the building now, but I've never been because I don't want to ruin the Old Peking memories I have. read more

Got takeout. Food was very good. Well cooked and seasoned. My problem was with the takeout containers. Styrofoam containers almost disintegrated by the time I got home (about 20-25 min). We are very happy with our local Chinese place, China King in Troy. But they stopped making their own pot stickers, and the frozen ones are horrible. Since my husband loves pot stickers, I called all the nearby restaurants to find one that still makes them in house. I'm pretty sure Peking garden is the only one who still does. I decided to order on the way home last night and surprise him. Their prices were a little high compared to other places, but I figured if the food was good and the pot stickers are hand made it would be worth it. Oh, if only! I have never been so disappointed with a Chinese restaurant in my life. To begin with, as I waited by the pick up table, the stench of sewer was nearly overwhelming. I guess they had a bathroom issue, as I was standing right next to them. I ordered general tso's chicken, veggie fried rice, pot stickers and crab rangoon. The reason I went to this restaurant, the pot stickers, were horrible. They actually exploded oil into your mouth when you bit down, the flavor of the pork was mediocre, and the sauce tasted really funny. And you could see the pill slick on to of the sauce. I thought about outing it my granny separator, but it tasted so off it wasn't worth it. The crab rangoon, which I thought were impossible to mess up, were mealy and over fried. They were so hard they hurt my teeth. The fried rice was terrible. It was so dark with soy sauce and overcooked that it will probably go in the trash. Oddly enough, the broccoli in the rice was undercooked. I think. It was weird broccoli. It's almost like frozen broccoli that was thawed but not cooked enough. Then we come to the general tso's chicken. The chicken was dry and the sauce was terrible. The whole dish tasted burned. I ordered an extra side of the sauce and it tasted burned, too. Peking Garden is the best Chinese around. My wife and I live in Edwardsville which has some 6 or so Chinese restaurants and we drive to Collinsville. She always gets the Hunan chicken and I get General Tso's. The soups are good, I like egg drop and hot and sour. Egg rolls and crab rangoon also good. Great fried rice and we love the hot tea. The atmosphere is nice, servers are wonderful, and we always enjoy our time there. read more
