Best Chinese takeout I've found in the Glen Carbon/Edwardsville area. Also a sit down restaurant. Our usual is either Chicken Egg Foo Young or General Tso's Chicken but everything we've tried is good. The restaurant is pretty typical decor. The takeout service is great. I can't speak to the dine-in service.

Good little spot. It started to get busy as I was leaving. General Taos was good a little plain tasting was expecting more flavor but overall I was happy with the place. Lunch special came with soup option and egg roll or Rangoon

"Come closer, lover, take a table." Such was the greeting to each party on Friday afternoon from the animated waiter wearing the $100-bill-themed bow tie. The floor show continued with a strange shuffle between kitchen and dining room, and a little sexual innuendo thrown into conversation about our order. Most diners chuckled, and went along with the act, but there were some strange looks, too. The family dinner for two (split by two teenagers) came with choice of soup, appetizer, and two entrees large enough to take most home. My wife's vegetable plate, and my seafood delight were good-sized, and the veggies were cooked just right, not too soft or wimpy.

Great food for a great value. I have been here many times and it always good. We enjoy the dinner for two. You get your choice of soup, appetizer, two main dishes. More food than any two people can eat. Severed as a family style setting. It is a small business with limited seating. But I have never waited more than 10 mins. The owners are always pleasant and welcoming. I highly recommend this spot!

We brought the family here to celebrate my wife's birthday, and it certainly didn't disappoint! The Orient has a large fish tank that my kids enjoyed as we walked in. We were served promptly and our server was very friendly. The appetizers tasted great- crab Rangoon's, egg roll, and hot/sour soup was really good. I thought the main dishes (sweet and sour chicken, orange chicken) tasted a little on the bland side and could have benefited from more seasonings, but other than that, everything was great!

Our family loves the Orient. From the sweet lady that always waits on us to their eggrolls and crab ragoon. It's all good.

Delicious, quaint place that has one waitress who will make sure you have everything you need! Best Chinese food in the So IL area.

Fried rice was yellow rice with some onions, very sad rice with no flavor at all. Hardly traditional fried rice. Was given a 25 minute estimate. Got there at 20 minutes and waited almost 30 more for my order. The huge tub of brown gravy they give you is ridiculously large for the amount needed for the entree and scalding hot temperature. The container it comes in has a lid that is impossible to remove without spilling the full sauce all over. There are no sauce packets out for you to grab like most Chinese take out places have and when the bag was handed to me all sealed up I assumed (wrongly) that they had thrown some sauces in. My bad for assuming. They did throw fortune cookies in. Ugly: The General Tso chicken was inedible. The unrecognizable chunks of "chicken" were so stringy and tough and full of cartridge more than half of them could not be eaten and had to be spit out. The sauce also had no heat (menu shows a spicy symbol) and really no flavor like traditional General Chicken you would expect. Our total order exceeded the amount ($21 before tax) listed on the menu for 3 free crab rangoon which I asked for when I ordered. When I got there they charged me for the rangoon but I didn't notice that until I got home. This is our 3rd disappointing visit in a row. I realize it's the only Chinese in town and everyone in Bethalto loves it but it's really sad that it doesn't live up to the hype.

However, I remember it as being a decent place to dine with a good amount of selection and fair prices. Upon entering, I was quite surprised to see that their pricing was still reasonable, however I didn't understand the upcharge for Sunday vs. the weekly buffet price as nothing on that Sunday buffet reflected an upcharge type dish in the slightest. Upon my first trip up to the buffet, I was a bit surprised to see that literally not one item on that buffet had changed in the past 7 years. I guess any kind of variety is out with this place or they don't know how to prepare anything else. At 11 am with a very light crowd present, all of the food was cold, completely unacceptatble having only opened at 10:30 am! Honestly I think the General Tso was the only item I had that was luke warm besides my bowl of soup. Many of the buffet dishes appeared to be leftover from the previous evening - - a good cook can tell what's fresh vs. leftover. The crab ragoons were tough and chewy a telltale sign of having been reheated. The egg rolls appeared to be refried as they were exceptionally dark brown in color. Literally no one was touching them either. The "fresh" seasoned green beans were all shriveled up. The lo mein noodles were swollen, having clearly soaked up all the juices/sauce from being stored and re-served. I think you get the picture here. I guess one might get food that is fresh and warm after all the leftovers have been eaten up by the victims dining at opening time. Good luck with your experience. Also, this place is exceptionally dirty and ran down with black mold on the walls and ceiling. It desperately needs a coat of paint, some new ceiling tiles, flooring, and lighting upgrades. . . fairly inexpensive upgrades and things you think would have changed somewhere along the way in the past 7 years since my last visit.

I almost always have leftovers, which is a win. The crab rangoons lean more savory than sweet, which I personally love, and they're wrapped in a lighter wrapper that doesn't feel heavy or greasy. The shumai are light and delicious as well. The sushi is a huge standout. The quality is excellent for the price. You really don't find sushi this good at this cost very often. Their multi roll deals are an incredible value. My fiancé and I ordered three sushi rolls, two appetizers, and I also had an udon bowl, and our total came to about $70 including tip. At other places, that same meal would have easily been over $100, and the quality here was just as good. The food also holds up really well for takeout and leftovers. They use good containers, and everything reheats nicely. One thing I especially appreciate is that the chicken doesn't get that weird leftover chicken taste after a day or two. This one stays fresh. We genuinely gush about this place every time we eat here. It's that good. I highly recommend the chicken lo mein with broccoli, any of the sushi rolls, and the soups. I do wish the egg in the soup was fried or closer to a soft boil, but even as is, it's still delicious. They are also friendly and super laid back there.
