After a very disappointing experience at another winery nearby, Pelio Estate Wines completely saved our Mother's Day. From the very beginning, everything felt warm and welcoming. The hostess greeted us immediately with a complimentary splash of rosé and walked us to our table right away (no waiting, no confusion, just genuine hospitality!). Within minutes, our server came over and kindly offered us a few wines to try before ordering, which felt like a lovely mini tasting experience. We ended up ordering the Big Basket snacks, a bottle of Chardonnay for the table, drinks for the kids, and of course took a sparkling wine home with us as well. A small detail I especially appreciated: the wine box is simple cardboard without oversized branding or wasteful packaging - practical, elegant, and actually reusable. The atmosphere here is absolutely wonderful: a beautiful courtyard, soft music, charming decorations hanging in the trees, a cute swing, and some of the most gorgeous blooming bushes and landscaping we've seen at a winery. The entire place feels so thoughtfully maintained, peaceful, and inviting. We spent a couple of hours there without even wanting to go anywhere else afterward. Beautiful property - really elegant place. We came on a holiday weekend, later in the afternoon and had to wait about 10-15 minutes. Not bad! When we were rung that our table was ready, they started us with a glass of Rose! So fun. My husband and I both got the library tasting, and my personal taste is for deeper and bolder red wines, so the Pinot's weren't for me but my husband who is newer to wine tasting enjoyed them! They had a bottle open of the sparkling wine and were kind enough to let us try it, we both liked it a lot and purchased a bottle to bring home. First off; wow. Pelio estate is one of the most beautiful wineries in Carmel Valley. From the landscaping to the decor, the ambiance here is one that makes you feel like you've been transported to another world. The style of the property is modern organic / contemporary rustic, highlighting how beautiful minimalist sophistication decorating really is. The outside reminds me of many of the wine regions throughout the Mediterranean from the old olive trees to the long communal table in the sun. There is rustic elegance everywhere and being able to enjoy a glass of wine in one of the outdoor seated areas is perfect on a warm summer day. I've visited Pelio now just under a handful of times and it's been great being able to watch the consistent improvements over time. Admittedly, my first visit was lackluster. Service was laissez-faire with the wine being poured and the server walking away. At times, this can be a welcomed moment of solitude between hospitality staff and your party, if the goal is to catch up with friends and not necessarily learn about the wines. Over the next couple visits, the service has gotten considerably more welcoming while remaining refined. I've been able to learn more about the wines and the story of Pelio Estate and it's given me a greater appreciation of both the wine and the overall brand. Tasting room manager, Morgan, is very focused on ensuring guests have a memorable experience and it's obvious that the improvements I've witnessed over time were guided by her attention to detail and her focus on true hospitality. Gorgeous property and lovely staff! We had our children but they didn't make us feel we unwelcome since the kids stayed around the outdoor swing for most of our tasting. We all did a flight and enjoyed the wines however I was disappointed they didn't offer any sparkling. The main reason i came was for the sparkling and secondly the pours were a bit minimal for the pricing being comparable to Napa I would have expected slightly more generous pours. We never mind paying more for the flight but honestly it's nice when you are l able to offer people more than what's on the menu or gauge what they lije or even offer a revisit . We would have been more likely to purchase bottle had we felt it was more personalized. overall a beautiful addition to carmel valley with some great rose! This place only opened up on Mother's Day 2023 and it's an oasis. The design is very much like Restoration Hardware restaurants ... spacious, minimalist, muted colors (greys, etc). The service is friendly and they have a regular and premium tasting. You get 3 pours - a rose, white and red ($30). They also have a picnic basket full of snacks - hummus, deli meats, cheeses, crackers, etc ($50). It's perfect for light bites for 3-4 people and very generous for 2 people. They also have candles (scent French Oak) made in their wine bottles (recycle/reuse) and the scent is heavenly. This is an absolute gem! read more

This local Carmel Valley winery has this beautiful tasting room and grounds in the west end of the village. The winery is located separately a few miles west towards Carmel. My wife and I shared their classic and reserved tastings. Each tasting came with one Chardonnay and two Pinot Noirs. We appreciated the Chardonnay over the Pinot Noir, but these varietals are not our usual go to wines. The service was efficient and professional. We really enjoyed the experience and I highly recommend, especially if you like Pinot and Chardonnay. Go see their 250 year old olive trees...absolutely amazing! read more

Finally, I had an opportunity to check out this new tasting room in Carmel Valley. Pelio Wines has only been in print for me. They have two flight selections: Classic & Reserve. Mostly producing Rose, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Attentive service and ability to explain the wines and the terroir. The venue is truly a great remodel of the previous building. The cement walls and striking high ceilings create an atmosphere of somewhere other than Monterey County. It feels like I am in Napa. They have outdoor Pergola seating areas that are super cozy and perfect for afternoons in Carmel Valley. read more

The ambiance gives off very RH vibes. Simplistic, elegant and very classy. I liked the outdoor furniture and color palette they chose. This was one of the several wine tastings we visited and it definitely gave off the classiest/modern vibes. As we were checked in we were all given a small tasting of one of their wines, then promptly seated. A couple of us got the tasting flight and some of us got a single glass. We also ordered a provisioning basket which came with an assortment of cheese, crackers, and nuts. I wished there were a little bit more of everything considering it was $50 for it. Our server was knowledgeable and attentive but seemed like he took care of all of the tables by himself. We ended up having to go inside to pay the bill and wrap everything up. This place just opened. The grounds and tasting room is absolutely beautiful. The wines are extremely good. We had the rosé and the Pinot all estate grown. Perfect spot for groups. When choosing a winery in Carmel Valley, its easy to get flooded with options. However, the quant and modern vibes of Pelio will not let you down! With their own parking lot, Pelio knocks out one of the most annoying parts of Valley wine tasting! Although their tastings only come with 3 different wines (not including the Rose taster we got on check-in) all of the pours were generous and DELICIOUS. We were lucky enough to get a cabana outside and the light breeze with sunshine made the entire tasting perfect. Constantly getting checked on, being seated away from the main room didn't make us feel forgotten at all! Is this the BEST wine in the valley? Debatable. But the vibes and parking alone make visiting worth it! read more

We visited this winery on Memorial Day weekend (today). Beautiful day, and the place was half empty with plenty of tables available. There was no one at the reception, and the bartender walked right past us without acknowledging us. After waiting a while, we went to the bar, only to be redirected to the receptionist. The receptionist asked if we had a reservation. I explained we just wanted a glass of wine, we don't even need a table and we can just walk around. We had a toddler who doesn't like to sit. She replied that it was a sit-down kinda place (whatever that means). When I asked if they only did tastings, she ignored my question, and said they were only serving prior reservations. We have been members going on 2 years - pretty much since they opened the tasting room in the village. We stumbled upon the tasting room during a weekend at Bernardus and were pleasantly surprised to find a decent winery within reasonable driving distance and enjoy little day trips from San Jose. We have brought friends & family and just really enjoyed our time at Pelio. We loved the atmosphere, service, wine and felt that it was an approachable place that very much was not pretentious (we are members of wineries down in Los Olivos for these same reasons). We made the 2 hour trip down with our 8mo old baby to celebrate my mom's birthday and, as always, picked up lunch at Jerome's (10/10 sandwiches - if you're in the area, you must give them a try!). We have brought in food every.single.time. My parents were running late due to traffic, our baby's nap time was approaching, we got settled and spread out lunch... when our server (not sure his name but he has definitely served us before) came over to tell us that we aren't allowed to bring in outside food. I'm sorry, what? It wasn't a problem the last time we visited and you served us, it wasn't a problem the previous time when your manager Morgan served us... not his fault, he was simply the messenger and I can't hold that against him. The hostess made a snide comment about how it's on the website. It's not, I looked:) it does say no outside food on their Tock but we never make reservations on Tock and simply email. We cancelled our wine club on the spot because of the way the entire situation was handled and how we were treated. The staff showed zero empathy and didn't care at all. They were cold and rude. We packed everything up and headed out to find a much more accommodating place... thankfully Twisted Roots right across the street showed us unmatched hospitality and salvaged our day before we had to get on the road for the little one's nap. We ended up having a lovely time despite the experience at Pelio. What was once a non pretentious place with decent Pinots, fun interiors and a vibey playlist has gotten a little too high and mighty (just a reminder, you're not Napa) and has lost a loyal member in the process. Don't go to Pelio. Go to Twisted Roots instead - it's a much better experience and the wines (Petite Sirah, I'm looking at you) are good. PS: they say their kid friendly but we definitely felt a shift in attitude towards us after we started bringing our baby (who is an exceptionally happy, adorable baby and does not cry or fuss, btw). I'm pretty sure we would have been treated differently if we didn't have our baby with us, which is a shame. read more
