I contacted R.B Lewis along with a few other companies and every company provided me an hourly rate…read more$100-125 an hour, 2 of 3 companies I contacted were going to send out 1 guy while R.B Lewis wanted to send out 2 guys for a rate of $200. Tim Pappas of R.B Lewis had contacted me on 2/26 and said he would like to go over, look at the job and make sure he had all the materials. The following day I followed up with Tim around 10:30, only to find out that the guys were already on my property working, no one contacted me to schedule the work, no contracts were written and Tim provided his workers the entry code to my property to start working without notifying me the guys were coming. From that moment I had a bad feeling how this job was going so I headed over to the property to find 2 workers in the house. The guys had almost 8 hours into the job and no repairs were started yet as they claim they were searching for breaks in the CVPC since they got there. I asked the guys how many breaks did they find in the attic and they responded with 4-6 leaks, and there were another 4-5 leaks that were exposed in first floor CVPC. The employees had told me that it takes hours to repair 1 break so I decided that I would drop what I was doing in my schedule and keep myself busy around the house so I could check on the guys. They spent the 1st day repairing the 4-6 leaks in the attic and I was hesitant to even have them return after dragging out the clock on day 1. I don't like hiring many contractors by the hr, but most are professional, honest, hardworking and efficient, all things that R.B Lewis lacks. I do quite a bit of general contracting and understand most trades so when the employees were telling me it takes hours to cut out one section of PVC pipe, I felt as if they were insulting my intelligence. Perhaps you need to understand how the Sprinkler systems work to be in the trade, but cutting out and gluing PVC is not rocket science. If you don't know what PVC pipe cutters are, youtube it and you will see how quick one can cut PVC out, it clearly does not take hours to cut out PVC like the guys mentioned. I would like to say the second day went much faster but I would be lying through my teeth, something Tim is very good at as he explains how long something should take as the job just drags out. I met Tim on the third day to go over cost and he hands me a bill much higher than what he said the job was going to be. I was billed 7-3 each day even though the guys didn't show till 730. The guys didn't come the second day with anymore CVPC and they were short a few feet so I was charged a delivery fee to bring over a piece. You would think that they would have enough stock on them after being on the job for a day and knowing what they had to come back to repair. Also, on the bill is a travel cost for 280 miles, the company is located in Manchester, I don't know where the 280 miles comes from when Londonderry is the next town over. There was never an estimate provided or no mention of this additional cost that Tim was now trying to collect on so I refused to pay this. I just wanted this company to be finished with my job, the work completed and the system to be turned on and I wanted to settle up and never have any future relationship with this company again. The guys return, they finish in 30 mins and want payment right away without having the water turned on. I told them I would pay in full once the water was on and system was under pressure and I did. This company is a bunch of crooks, bottom line, they charged me $4422 for repairs, $1500 more and I could have had an entire new system in, they repaired between 13-15 breaks and replaced 5 sprinkler heads, watch out for the way the employees drag out the clock, the undisclosed travel cost, and good luck getting an estimate in writing before this company just shows up and starts working. Most important if you decide to hire this company, be home so you can see for yourself, if it's clear that its not working, cut your losses and find someone more professional and trustworthy!
