I was at this pub many years ago and the atmosphere has not change and nothing else either. The theme is a railroad pub of days long gone. There appears to be no updates that I was aware of. The waitress served 7 of us and she was really good. She was fast and the food came out quickly and everything that was ordered was correct. No errors anywhere. Huge variety of beer and quickly served. Many pubs gave 20 oz of beer and this one did not. I had the pemby Italian beef ragu. There was enough to feed a horse. In other words it was a lot. I was very recently at this establishment for a second time with a group of friends watching the latest UFC PPV. There are not many places to watch here in North Vancouver and this has quickly become our "go-to" location. It's cozy, every single TV in the establishment on fight night is onto the fight and people there are really into it. While the kitchen did get a little slow at times, due to the place being packed to the rafters, I found the staff to be attentive and doing there very best to keep things moving. The menu is extensive and they have some of the largest chicken strips I've had anywhere! I love the atmosphere here, it's small (get there early for a UFC fight to get a good view) and cozy just as a pub really should be. read more

I've been going to the Pemby, as it's affectionally referred to by those in the know, for almost a decade. It's my pub. It's my friends' pub. I know the manager, the waitresses bring me my preferred drink as soon as I sit down and I haven't had to look at the menu to pick my meal in years. It's not the hippest place in town, but it's got a great group of regulars and an even better menu. Seriously, for pub grub, this place is tops. It's not fancy, but it's always tasty. I have recommened their steak sandwich to everyone I know. Hell, even their fish & chips is better than Troll's which is saying something because the same guy owns both joints! There are LOTS of TVs, so whether or not you prefer basketball, golf, hockey or UFC, you're bound to find a screen to which you can affix your eyes while you enjoy the cozy atmosphere. The first cook in the The past 20 to cook my steak as asked for. Coo dues to the server for relaying my wishes and more to the cook for actually doing it. Also a word for the choices of what to include in the special. Roasted beets and yam... Yummy and healthy as well being seasonal. I have lived in North Vancouver for 'a while' and have frequented this bar from the 80s (I think, it was a long time ago). Since 2006 my second wife and I have been going to this bar; it was very reasonable and both the glasses of beer and portions of food were generous. I good deal, all around. Although the Granville Island Beer is good, there was never much choice if you like beer on tap; but, the menu was impressive. The last 2 times we patronized this bar we were very disappointed. The beer is served in sleeves only (I think) and it is not cheep; I think I paid $7 for 12 oz. That is insulting. I am German and these small glasses are offensive. No self respecting German would buy a sleeve of beer if there was a larger glass to be had. Last night I had the Perogies on the 'feature' sheet.(Buffalo Bills). They were dreadful; worst Perogies I have ever had. I think I counted 6 - 8 Perogies; are you kidding me?! How much does it cost the bar to pile a few more Perogies on the plate?! I have never walked away hungry after eating a plate of Perogies, until now. I would have had the regular order of Perogies except the menu said contains bacon bits - I don't know what that is. Last time we ordered the nachos. What in the world happened to the massive plate of nachos you use to serve? We used to order the full plate to share and we could barely finish it. Now it is only enough for one person. What happened? Did you change ownership? We will not be coming back. read more

What a Gong show on Friday Feb 08! You see TV shows about places so poorly run but don't think you would ever see it in real life! Walked up to front door where Manager and server are loudly discussing that she can't be paid more than the other servers. A waitress served adjacent table 3x but did not take a drink order from our table so had to walk to bar to get a drink. After mediocre dinner with no quality check, our plates sat empty on table for 1/2 hour with no service so back to the bar to request the table be cleaned. Ten minutes later still no service so I carried dishes to the bar myself! Bartender says 'oh, thank you' and takes plates. Then we sat at table finished drinks - left after 10 mins. Not a word from manager or any staff - seriously this happened - what a train wreck. We left and went to Queens Cross and had a good service/time! read more

The Pemby is just awesome. They're always trying to make it better, too, and open to suggestions. They are by far the friendliest, coolest staff I've ever met and that goes a long way. Also the food and drink prices are great. They really try to keep the customer's costs down and it shows on the menu. Also, they have Buzztime/NTN (trivia, sports games, etc.)! Tons of fun. Always sports on many, many, TVs (I don't think there's a seat in the house where you can't see three or four TVs). If there's a game on that's available by satellite they've probably got it on somewhere. And if you want one that's not on, or want it on a different TV, all you have to do is ask. Tuesday is Music Bingo, they've always got the big fights on PPV (not in the parking lot), billiards upstairs and they always go out of their way to make you feel at home. They've also got TONS of really cool sports memorabilia on the walls. Awesome for everything from massive social events to just lunch! Great place to drink and hang out. They have a very extensive food menu and the food tasted very good for being a pub. But they really need to hire better waitresses. The one that waited on us was very slow and forgetful. We ordered a pitcher of beer and it cost $31. But it was like a gallon. The halibut burger and clam chowder was very good. It was one of the better chowders I've had. I think it came out to be $20 for the two items. If I'm in the area, I would drink here again. read more

Came here a year ago or so, during a down-hill biking trip at Whistler. We arrived in the evening just as the kitchens were about closing up. So I really got a taste of the atmosphere and the beer more than the food. This place was really chill. It had a big mountain cabin feel to it. And a nice outside area. We ended up roaming around the place freely.. While enjoying the local beer. And I just can't get over how cool that little upstairs area was with the pool tables.. With the tables being free, it was a fantastic area to meet new people through a game of pool! The beer was amazing! We had the "maple cream!" which is a seasonal local beer. I tried to find something like that in the states and failed epically. All around, this pub is awesome. I wish there were more like these! read more

The Pemby is a great neighbourhood pub with super friendly staff, really good food (especially for the prices) with a fun atmosphere during sports events. Throughout the playoffs the Pemby was standing room only with drink specials, music bingo, and pucks handed out with players' numbers so if your Canuck scored you won a free beer. Great pub with a real ski loungie thing going on. Large open space with high ceiling log cabin feel. Fireplace in the middle. A couple of pool tables up in the loft looking down to people watch. The waitresses are actually really nice as is the bar staff so thats a good point. The menu is big but my halibut burger was mediocre at best and the half fries and salad with it were more like a few fries with bits of lettuce. I've noticed that there are not alot of sports bars in Canada... What's with that? People obviously like hockey, don't they watch it in public places? I'm not a fan, but during the football season, you can find me here, usually in the company of strangers, since none of my friends care about the NFL. The people are chill, staff and customer alike... They have lots of TV's in every direction, so I can watch all the games at once. That's a plus. They have lots of delicious grub, and anything you could possibly want to drink. Love this down-to-earth neighborhood joint! The service is always laid back but friendly and helpful. And their veggie burger is to die for. Has that real char-grilled flavor. The side salad that comes with it is consistently fresh too; not that wilty stuff that so often gets served at pubs. Quesadillas are also quite good and cheesy. Absolutely the worst service one can ever image. Salads take hours to come up - waitresses are complete trash and extremely rude - talk back and argue.
