I want to start off by saying the two FNPs I see here are amazing providers and they are the reason…read morewhy I have been coming here for 3 years. Due to other issues with the office practices, however, I will no longer be a patient here. Their billing department is a nightmare! They charge you for random things, their billing lady calls and yells at you about your balance, and then once you pay you get a refund check in the mail stating they charge you wrong. This has happened to me 3 times during every single one of my annual visits. Then I got married and changed my name but my insurance wouldn't change it until Novemeber during enrollment time. I told them to submit my annual visit through my maiden name. They didn't and so I got a lovely call from their billing lady who again was rude and acted so inconvienced that she had to resubmit my claim. THAT'S YOUR JOB! As my husband and I look forward to begin to try and conceive next year we thought about where we would want the delivery to be. My second problem is they only deliver out of August Health. Trust me I worked there and I know how subpar their care is at that hospital. I have also had two friends who were nurses deliver there and tell me horror stories about the care they got there. I'll be switching to a practice associate with Martha Jefferson. The wait times are also crazy. I'm a nurse so I know all about wait times and feel that I am a reasonable person when it comes to waiting; 30 minutes is ok if your provider is running behind from previous visits. I have waited up to 1 hour before I was taken back to be seen and had to wait around 30 minutes in the room before anyone comes to see you. If you choose to go here ask for Kari or April, the two FNPs I saw, they are both midwives and amazing providers. I will really miss having them as my providers.

He is also a board certified obstetrician and delivered my son before he became his pediatrician. I have been a registered nurse at UVA for 5 years, and Dr. Campbell is absolutely the "go to" doctor for all health professionals...but also perfect for anybody who needs a gentle, non-judgmental, down to earth approach. Dr. Campbell is extremely empathetic, always takes my concerns very seriously, takes the time to answer all of my questions in depth...and always presents the most practical-yet-evidence based options. He has an equal respect for low intervention and the power of medicine, and will always be flexible when it comes to your personal views on medical care. His office staff is incredibly helpful and the nurses have always given wonderful medical direction over the phone. Surprisingly enough, we never have trouble getting an appointment the same day even though he and his nurse practitioner (who is also fabulous) are the only PCPs in the practice. The wait times are reasonable too, considering the small practice, and I have never minded waiting a few extra minutes because I know that he will never ever rush me when it's my turn to be seen. The only negative part about my experience with Dr. Campbell is that I would be devastated to have to move away from Charlottesville...because it means I would have to find another doctor...And nobody could ever replace him!

New patient appointment and I was in and out in 20 minutes! Wahoo!…read more Didn't feel rushed at all the whole time, either. All of the staff was friendly and helpful. The receptionist who greeted me was great. Beware- they take a picture of your face for your chart on your first visit! (to prevent insurance fraud.) But the receptionist was so friendly and made me laugh so she made the situation of having your picture taken right before going back to have your lady parts examined a lot less awkward than what it actually sounds like. Once getting back to the room, I was seen within minutes by Dr Godfrey. He had great bedside manner and was thorough in his assessment and didn't make me feel rushed. He walks you through and prepares you for all the awkward exam parts so you know what to expect before it happens. The office is clean and nice. The waiting room and hallways are decorated nicely, but the exam rooms are a little dated looking with pink walls. Oh well, I'll take cleanliness over modern any day.

I'm giving this place two stars, because the nurses at least and those who run the desk areas are…read morethe friendliest people and deserve to be acknowledged for how well they take care of you and make you feel safe. Now let's talk about why I'm giving this overall doctors office , one star. I'm a big individual, and nothing I saw in that office, accommodates individuals larger than 200-250. Patients come in ALL shapes and sizes, so for a medical office to neglect that in several different ways was highly disappointing. My doctor was riddled with body shaming and fatphobia, my entire visit, which left me feeling disgusted and ashamed. Nobody deserves that. II wasn't there to talk about the fact that I want to go down to my normal weight again, I was there to talk about my vagina, and my vagina and what is happening, was farthest from the conversation. I'm also a sexual assault victim, and my pap was traumatizing. I told them ahead of time I have PTSD with paps, and usually I can handle it pretty well, but it was evident my doctor didn't really know how to handle a fat body, which left me in pain and tears. It left me feeling violated, without being assaulted. Luckily, my doctor stopped because I vocally said I was in pain. Last but certainly not least, I was told I'd have to get a biopsy done AND THEN WAS TOLD I SHOULD GET A D&C DONE! I refused because I'm a sleep apnea patient, putting me under without research on my health history is ill mannered. So they stuck to a biopsy, but my doctor never told me what it consisted of, explained how to producer works or what to expect after! I had to find out from a friend who has had it done before. I'm not going back and whoever runs this office, you need to re-evaluate because this isn't the only low score you've gotten.

Bottom line: ob/gyn Edward Wolanski came pretty highly recommended to me, with the one caveat that…read morehe has an unhealthy, critical view of weight gain during pregnancy. It turns out that's true. But it also seems to be true that for other criteria like a low-intervention approach to birth, he's the best ob/gyn in Charlottesville (by default - he seems to be the only low-intervention ob/gyn here!). So, you have to pick your poison. Or maybe enough women telling him we don't like his unnecessarily strict, critical stance could influence the way he relates to patients? One can dare to hope. Context: I moved to Charlottesville about two months ago and began asking for recommendations for a good ob/gyn. Edward Wolanski was a name that kept coming up. Friends and friends-of-friends recommended him because they said he tends to be low intervention - he serves as the back-up for a midwife, which is rare and usually indicates an appreciation for a natural approach to childbirth. The one nuance to all the glowing reviews was that he could be brusque and unnecessarily strict about weight, having once told a patient, "We don't want a chubby Christa!" (Except he used her name, of course.) I took this info with a grain of salt, but sure enough, during our consultation visit, one of the first things Wolanski brought up was his recommendation that pregnant women should only gain 20-25 pounds during a pregnancy: this goes against the medically recognized guideline of 25-35 pounds for women who, like me, are in a healthy weight range at the start of pregnancy. I questioned whether his adapted guidelines set up potentially harmful expectations for women who have struggled with eating disorders, and he actually responded, "I've had many patients who have dealt with anorexia, and they tend to do quite well during pregnancy because they watch what they eat." Uh, yeah, that's what anorexics do, but I think our definition of "doing quite well" are not the same. That's the bad news. The worse news is that Wolanski may still be the best (only??) ob/gyn in Charlottesville for women like me, who value a low-intervention approach to childbirth. In the past week, I've researched ob/gyns in Cville like it's my job, and while Martha Jefferson Hospital is more advanced in terms of holistic care of mama + baby, I have yet to find another ob/gyn practice that is recommended for being accepting of a more natural approach to childbirth. I'll update this if/when I do (and if you have recommendations - message me!!)
