Wow, what a great hidden gem in Clinton, MO! Stopped while passing through back to Colorado & am so glad we did! Awesome ambiance- my husband was stoked they were playing Guns 'n Roses right off the bat. Barbie took fantastic care of us! We ordered the eggrolls & crab rangoons to start - both were excellent and amazing sweet & sour sauce to go with. My husband ordered the chicken & shrimp hibachi & I ordered the Spice Girl roll & the Fiery Tuna Roll. Food was on the table quick, fresh & absolutely PHENOMENAL. Spice Girls were playing over the Sonos speakers and we were in heaven. Barbie kept our drinks full & us happy! This will always be a stop anytime we come through Clinton again!

This makes the customer feel more comfortable! Yaas.

Great prices, great servers, great business model! The sushi chef is singing while she works and is sooo friendly! Putting the names of the hosts and waitress on a board is a great touch! The tuna roll and eel roll was eaten quickly! I am pleasantly surprised with the quality. Lots of to go orders.. you can tell this is not a secret amongst the locals. Brooke was an excellent waitress. If I am ever nearby, I'll come back.

Yelp is such a powerful tool for finding great new spots! I don't usually think sushi when we travel in the Midwest but the reviews convinced me we ought to give this spot a try. It's a win! It's bigger than it looks from the outside but it's still not huge. The service is attentive and every seat in the house is visible from the hostess station. There's a little sushi counter tucked in the corner and the chef was hard at work making beautiful and delicious rolls. I tried two rolls and my DH had the chicken hibachi. We shared an egg roll appetizer and had a very tasty and pleasant meal. Affordable and delicious... my favorite!

The lacquered soup bowl and spoon are par for the course but the cast iron teapot and teacup give that authentic quality. So the miso soup is not as salty as I am accustomed to, but I believe that is a me thing, not a quality issue. The composition of seaweed and tofu is good. The salad has a ginger dressing which I appreciate, but my daughter didn't. Again, it's a her issue. The salad components were fresh. The sushi flavors were pretty good. So the fish is not as fresh as it would be in a coastal state or on an island. Hey man, this is the midwest! That being said, this is NOT grocery store sushi though, it is much better and much tastier than that. The flavors of the sauces are mild to allow the natural flavors of the ingredients to shine through, something that many places err in. Typical rolls have such overpowering sauces that the actual ingredients are unidentifiable. This place does not make that mistake. The spicy tuna roll is probably the best tasting spicy tuna roll that I have had in a very long time. Most places use sriracha as the main pepper ingredient, despite it not being of Japan origins. This spicy tuna roll has more of a togarashii based pepper base. As a result it has more of an authentic Japanese flavor. Yum! The staff are very nice, greeting you with a smile. They even ask if you would like a plate cleared away before taking the dish away...my husband has had instances where he wasn't quite done and the servers whisked the dish away neglecting to ask. They checked on us frequently as well. I also am pleasantly surprised that their last call for dine in is 15 minutes before they close. My daughter wasn't available to go out for dinner until 8:45 pm. This is 20 minutes away, so it was still open when we arrived and we didn't feel rushed to place our order.

Hard to choose just a few items from their menu, but I went with the beet salad, the skewer platter, and finished it off with the soft serve. First, the vibe is so intimate and cozy. Getting in without reservations is tough unless you go at an odd hour. And if they do let you in, don't test them on the your time limit. Be extra grateful and make it easy so they can seat the actual pre-reserved folks. The place is small enough and the service is nearly 2:1, so they'll definitely remember you. With that said, we tried it best to be on good behavior but that Sake flight had us feeling spicy! Which I'll speak to next, the sake flight delightfully surprised me, and gave me a few things I liked enough to order again. Did not expect that. But I shouldn't be surprised, they're obviously going to have something wildly well-curated, given the successful history of Anjin's creator. I know I'm supposed to talk about the food. But it almost feels pointless. It was obviously amazing. It's a small curated menu. They're famous for their sandwich, whatever rotation they're serving will be sure to please you. They didn't have a lot of vegan options on the menu so my friend got the cabbage dish and it was absolutely wonderful as well. That might be my only watch out if somebody is a vegan, check out the latest menu before going. With such a curated, small menu it may or may not be in a vegan's favor depending on the season. And if it's not, just drink more sake! Can't wait to return, especially with those visiting from out of town to give them an authentic, locally-owned experience.

I rarely see omakase restaurants or izakayas open for lunch or on a Monday, so this was pretty exciting for me. I wandered in without a resy (I hear it is needed for dinner) and was seated at the bar. All three chefs were helpful and talkative. I ordered the chirashi lunch, and while I was assured it was enough to eat, I left myself open to future nigiri. I ordered an iced green tea to start, and it was served in a beautiful glass (see photo). It tasted like hojicha as it was roasty. First, I was served gomaae, blanched spinach in sesame dressing, which was very nice. Next was miso soup. The soup was lukewarm so not my favorite, but the presentation was nice. Then came my chirashi don: a small bowl with rice mixed with diced takuan on the bottom, an assortment of fish: masu (ocean trout), tai (sea bream), hamachi (yellowtail), akami (lean tuna), suzuki (sea bass), chutoro (medium fatty tuna), and o-toro (fatty tuna), accompanied with cucumber, shiso leaf, and thinly shredded daikon. While this was satisfying, the freshness and quality led me to try four additional nigiri: kinmedai (golden eye snapper) with lemon zest and charcoal salt, seared gindara (black cod) with yuzu miso, in-house cured saba (not on menu but glad it came up in conversation!), and for dessert, Hokkaido uni (also not on menu, but happened to be in and fresh)! Everything was fantastic and the prices are very reasonable. The service was wonderful too. I would love to return for dinner and enjoy the omakase experience (though it is available at lunch). Itadakimasu!
