First of all, there is really no other choice of funeral Directors or crematoriums on the Kenai. That concerned us when making arrangement recently. The concern was reenforced when we learned what charges for the simplest cremation would be. It was twice what similar services were when recently re arranged another relatives cremation in the lower 48. Furthermore, when we arrived at the Kenai chapel we were NOT AT ALL impressed. There was a service about to begin and the casual attitude of the employees toward us was startling. they milled about in their cluttered office, with the door wide open to the poor grieving people arriving for a service, talked loudly and openly about business ( while the cremains of several clients lay lined up on a very visible counter). Also... when phoning in to solve an issue or two - we were very surprised at the poor telephone manner of the representatives. The last thing ( and this can't be proved in any way) we wonder if they forgot to check our relative's rear pocket for his wallet. The police ( the only person to see the body beside the funeral home attendants) claim they never saw a wallet. We think the body was transported and cremated with his wallet in his rear pocket. When we brought it up, there was NO compassion at all - they were downright defensive. We simply have a bad taste in our mouth and feel that we may have been taken advantage of. At the very least. We encourage those on the Kenai to consider alternatives ( even using an Anchorage funeral service instead of this business that is a very unpleasant monopoly. read more
