Guys, this is for Penn Medicine as a whole, your phone tree is extremely time consuming, gives people the run around, and results in a frustrating human experience. People get off the phone thinking 'if the phone tree is like this, what does that say about the care?' Whether that's a false assumption or not, people do think that. Thus, I suggest revising your approach to your phone tree, allowing for more direct-to-office calls. Online, it's tough to find an actual office number, which adds to the frustration, especially for people who don't just have one health issue, but who need to talk to multiple schedulers for multiple different types of appointments due to complex health needs. And these are the people who are already burnt out by their health problems. Could you make things easier? E.g., I've already had to call the scheduler for a particular office about something. Due to inability to process my insurance, I'm calling back today, but have already spent 15 minutes of my lunch break on hold, and am afraid that I won't get to anybody before my lunch break passes by, at which point I'll be forced to do all of this again tomorrow. read more

Penn medicine Palliative Care stinks. I wasted so much time because I thought that that's the way Palliative Care works only to find out I should have gotten better and more services for my husband. A nurse practitioner has a couple of visits with him and tells us she can't see him for 6 months! I asked for a refill she told me to call his doctor. This service was absolutely no help to me and had I realized it sooner., my husband may have gotten better care had I gone through an outside agency like Bayada. Beware! read more

(30 seconds off 476) * The depth & breadth of the specialists here is amazing. * Check out their excellent web site. * While you're checking the website you'll see that most all the docs were trained at top quality schools. * Scheduling an appointment with whoever is very efficient. * A beautiful lobby with a coffee shop, optical shop, and an ATM. * The building itself is great with comfortable waiting rooms. * Signage is spot on but the friendly folks in the lobby will also guide you. Lies, Lies. Lies. I was told I can go back and see my daughter and talk to the doctor after she comes out of her procedure and they would NOT let me back there in the surgery center. After 30 minutes in recovery the nurse tells her to get dressed and she could even walk or see straight from the anesthesia. She came out with the nurse guiding her and when I took her arm to help her walk she was trembling and her head was spinning from the anesthesia. What was the big rush to get her out? This was the middle of the afternoon NOT quitting time. NOT pleased at all with the way they handled this. So be prepared parents, when your child gets a procedure in the surgery center, DO NOT expect to see them until the nurse brings them out. read more

This review is for Dr Oren Friedman and team who fixed my deviated septum. They did a great job--my nose was jacked up on the inside before! It's been about 4 months now, and I can breathe much better. My nose is straighter and my airways are clear. They were very professional and brought great expertise, making me feel confident in their success. This place is a tale of two cities. 1st off every physician I saw here has been outstanding. Caring, compassionate, knowledgeable... amazing bedside manner. However the reason for the 3-star review... good luck getting in to see someone. While attending my yearly checkup I was told by the receptionist that they are booked up beyond a year and were not taking appointments. 1st off, how do you book yourself beyond a year? Should you not keep your appointments open for that day one year from now so that your patients can book for the same day next year then the following day allow other people to book? I was told to just call in next week and see if any times opened up. I was just thinking but I'm not going to do that. I'm here now, let's make an appointment. Annoying. I love the staff but they have to get more doctors in to open up appointments or stop taking on new patients. read more

Great overall vision for a medical facility, but not worth the risk. At all. My appointment was for today in the adolescent/young adult department. I was told to go here after turning 19, as I could no longer see my pediatrician. During my visit today, I received the first of what was supposed to be a series of two meningitis B shots. Left, thought everything was fine. Within 10 minutes, I started feeling numbness in my left hand, the same side where I got the vaccine. Soon I couldn't feel my entire arm. No soreness, no tingling, just numbness. Considered going back, but I opted to call the front desk. They advised me to go to the ER instead of returning, since loss of feeling was not a normal side-effect to this vaccine. I'm now being told that the needle itself has given me nerve damage. Never coming back here again. I won't name names, because I believe that would be in bad taste, so PLEASE just avoid this place overall. Don't put your health at risk. read more

TERRIBLE. This place used to be good, now its terrible. They totally screwed up my wifes insurance billing on multiple occasions. She rarely even sees her primary doc. They usually send in Nurse practicioners. Doctors are mostly bad, I had one slimy Doctor, Miller was his name I believe, he was upset and slamming stuff all throughout my appointment. I stopped going years ago. I Have never heard of a place that posts signs such as this: " ATTN: UPenn may not be held liable if your insurance declines payment for lab fees". It is the patients responsibility to check with your insurance company prior to testing." Is it not the staffs Job to look up which insurance they take?? Avoid this place at all costs. He is absolutely fabulous from his willingness to take time to answer questions and explain labs and procedures to his constant ability to treat each patient as if they were his only patient ! I have been going to Penn Medicine since 1990 at Radnor and other nearby locations in the suburbs. A couple of years ago, I would have given Penn Medicine a 5 star rating. I have had an excellent primary doctor and many very good specialists. In the past couple of years most have left or retired. Trying to find new doctors within the Penn system has been frustrating. I have been on hold on the phone for hours, no call backs in some cases. When I do get a scheduler to help me most of the primary doctors I would like to go to have closed their practice to new patients leaving me to schedule with an unknown new hire that will not be onboard for several months. Transferring to a new specialist generally I have had to wait a year or more. In some cases I have been able to see a nurse-- but I would like to have an official doctor overseeing my care. Meanwhile I have trouble following up on medical problems, getting explanations of results for tests that the doctors who left ordered and getting medications refilled. After all of the waiting for a primary, I found the doctor to be distant, uninterested, rude and robot like checking off stuff on a computer form and not at all engaged with me and dismissing any concerns that I raised. I feel very uncomfortable returning to this individual. But, trying to finding another primary may take months and hours on the phone. read more

Had a 12;15 pm appointment with dr Harvey smith-arrived early checked in-by 1:15 pm still no doctor finally a practice mgr. came in apologized - I said this is par for the course for Penn medicine over the last 20 years they are the most disrespectful organization for patient's time yet they spend millions on new facilities and TV advertising . i then asked could a PA just review my back MRI with me-the practice mgr. ( Joshua Roane ) said yes -then they discovered they misplaced my MRI and its not actually attached to my record -yet it was attach 3 weeks earlier when i went to Penn King of Prussia- i walked out - suggested to practice mgr. they utilize technology and when doctor is backed up just sent text alert to patients communicating this fact and pushing back appointments-Penn medicine is all form no substance-will find another doctor- recommend you stay away from the new Penn Radnor facility as i saw many other patient complaining. read more

This use to be a phenomenal facility. good doctors, imaging, lab work, specialists... all in one structure. I'd go in, regardless if I spoke to a nurse practitioner or a doctor, I'd get their attention and would usually feel confident about the prognosis and treatment plan. I could call and ask for a specialist and they would refer me to someone of quality, most times it was not in the same network. they were not interested in references, or cronyism, they simply wanted to help you get better. TIMES HAVE CHANGED. Now I go in, all of the anatomy posters are gone, the "tips for better health" are gone. all replaced with payment and fee notices. one sign even said there was a fee for tissues. you sign in with a Kiosk, unless you need to update your payment information, then you get a person. the doctor comes into the room, sits in front of a computer terminal and asks what is wrong with you. they type it into the system, print a script and you are off. no delving into it, making sure what you think is wrong is the issue, no inquiries that may lead to other problems that require attention. they barely look at you. again, unless there is a problem with your payment information. I had not seen my Doctor in over 3 years. was told that before I could be seen for any illness, I had to have a check up with my primary physician. Ok, sure, I made that appointment for 4 months later. I sit in the office for 45 mins waiting, the doc shows up and small talk ensues. that is it. small talk, no questions about health, no blood work, no asking about medications, am I drinking too much, smoking, running around naked on a wet cold day with scissors. well, they did ask if my billing info was up to date. unless your insurance won't cover anyone else, I'd pass on this place. it has gone way down hill. unless you are suffering from toomuchcashitis, they don't have any interest nor professional ability to deal with you. read more

This after you wade through a mire of rude receptionists who talk to you like you are mentally challenged (Yes, I'm talking about you dishwater blonde with glasses in Dermatology, and the faceless voice from Internal Medicine who kept me needlessly on the phone explaining why they were unable to provide me with a referral because I haven't been to see my primary care physician yet this year). I get that you (ex-Physician) haven't been paid your "due" this year and therefore you feel no need to provide your patient of nine years with a simple referral to a dermatologist. I understand that my time means nothing to you and your only concern is scraping up enough business to make that BMW payment and pay for your trophy wife's weekly dye job, boob job, her Pilates sessions, your homely daughter's riding lessons, your jumbo mortgage payment and your liquor bill. You've made that more than plain. And the really sad part is that I probably (no, strike that, make that definitely) know more about my odd looking mole than you'll ever know, yet I require a referral from you. But I'm sure you know more about the 17th hole at Aronimink Golf Club and how drunk you have to (or alternatively how many carats of diamond ear rings you need to buy to) get your 15 year younger wife to pleasure you than I would. My potential melanoma? Well that's not important because it doesn't fill your pockets. I get it. If you have any inkling of going to a physician at Penn at Radnor's Internal Medicine department, just be aware that you are nothing to these folks but a walking dollar sign. If you're headed to the Dermatology practice at Penn at Radnor, I suggest stringing a sign around your neck that says "I am of at least average intelligence. I can hardly believe the way I was treated. I needed my glasses tightened, something that usually takes 2 minutes. There were no customers in the area, and one clerk on duty. He told me to leave, as I needed an appointment. There was no signage to that effect, just a limit on the number of people allowed in the area (4), we were 2 in the area at the time. A few things about this review. I have had no issues with the doctors and medical care here. I have received good care. However it's a nightmare to deal with the employees here and also to get help with any billing issues. Which casts a dark like on Penn in general. My issues are with the employees who work there and also Penn's billing. Overall: the employees are completely dismissive and love to talk over you and around you. Sometimes They are plain old rude. I have realized to expect poor behavior and bad information from all of them. I'd rather avoid them as much as possible rather than deal with them. read more

I'm giving Penn Medicine at Radnor only 3 stars due to the bad service I received at my primary doctor's office. It takes FOREVER to get through to a receptionist to make an appointment, change an appointment or get through to a nurse. That is unacceptable for a doctor's office. There is also a few rude, unsympathetic receptionists that sound like they need to find another job where compassion and manners don't matter. On top of that, my primary doctor had no bedside manner and would not even look me in the eye during my last appointment! I did further research online and found that she has the same temperament to other patients as well. That was the last straw for me. However, I go to the podiatry practice at Penn Radnor and I really like my doctor there. I'm also a patient of the OB/GYN practice, which has also been a good experience (busy office, but my doctor and the receptionists are nice and helpful). Overall, I did like having all of my doctors wrapped into 1 building. It's a shame they can't get their internal medicine office together. read more

We went here to get testing as our local Penn Medicine did not offer these tests. If you come here be prepared to valet park if you cannot walk far. In the afternoon, the parking lot was jammed and I had to circle the lot multiple times to find a close enough spot for my challenged walker. Inside this place is bustling like a city hospital. Signage is good and will direct you appropriately. In the ophthalmology department, there was not enough seating for waiting patients and there was a long walk from the sitting area to the rooms for the visual field test and the retinal pictures. The rooms needed a good cleaning. Large empty cardboard boxes were left just sitting in the testing rooms. That being said, the staff here was extremely patient in dealing with patients and kudos to them for that. read more

I gave up after about 20 mins yesterday and pushed a button that said "Request a Callback". That was a mistake. The person who calls back is not a person who can help. She simply reconfirms your name, etc., and then transfers you to the scheduling dept...the very same one I hung up on the other day. My advice is to stay on the line no matter how long the wait time in order to speak to a person who can make an appointment for you. Expect 2 or 3 month wait to get on the books. read more

I am long-standing patient of Penn Medicine Geriatrics - Radnor. I use the "My Penn Medicine" Application which includes a Messaging system to/from PM Providers, test Results, Rx info, appointment requests, etc. My PCP physician at this practice is a highly competent, excellent provider and an effective and timely communicator. All others in this painfully labyrinthine communication system, --not so much. Rule of thumb: For excellent care and communication through this painful voicemail system in which it is next to impossible to communicate with a human being that does not subscribe to the "It's not my job" school of conducting business, please under no circumstances get sick between your pre-scheduled follow up maintenance appointments. That part of it works well. If you have the misfortune of having a medical issue between these appointments, please reserve several hours to run the gauntlet of this ineffective, ant-patient telephone system, It is atrocious. I have over 4 decades working in the PA State and Federal bureaucracy, and I can say unequivocally that navigating these government bureaucracies and phone contact, voicemail systems are a "walk in the park" compared to Penn Medicine, especially Radnor. When (If) you are finally successful in reaching the someone who can deal with your problem, the medical care you are eventually provided is excellent. Sadly, there are highly professional Medical providers, and there is the incomprehensible and defacto indifferent system to reach competence. I include some of the Nursing staff in this latter group. Some DO NOT respond timely, or at all to urgent patient requests/ text messages to the physicians they work for. I can,-- and will shortly, name names. The Penn Medicine telephone communication system and its interface on-line is nothing short of uncontrollable contemptible from my personal recent experiences. read more

My mom had the most horrifying experience at Penn Radnor Radiology. After having imaging done at PR, they told us that there was an inflamed lymph node under her arm. She returned for a breast biopsy (and is a breast cancer survivor). Upon arrival, Heather was so incredibly rude about the fact that it appeared as though my mom hadn't checked in properly. She had checked in twice. Heather argued with my mom until she realized that the error was on their side. My mom was already terrified and shaking for the pending test and results - so this was not a good way to start things off. Dr. Greenfield did the biopsy and wasn't very attentive to the fact that my mom is extremely resistant to lidocaine. She almost passed out from the pain because they didn't listen or manage it well. Now they are scrambling for juice. All of this pales in comparison to what happened next. The next day, a woman named Lisa called my mom and said, "you're all clear, see you in a year for your next mammo." My mom hit the living room floor - crying and thanking God for saving her. Lisa then says, "oh wait - these aren't your results. I called the wrong person." I'M SORRY - WHAT?!?! First of all, who is Lisa?! She's Dr. Greenfield's scheduling assistant. She's not a medical assistant or a nurse. Has zero medical knowledge. Now my mom is beyond hysterical. We still didn't have her actual results even though we found out that they were actually available the same day Lisa called. I hit the roof and contacted every senior level radiology chief that I found on their website and detailed this nightmare. The next morning, Dr. Greenfield called my mom and apologized. She said that she didn't authorize Lisa to call anyone and has no idea why she did so. Lisa was out of the office so they couldn't address it with her yet. This was also a lie. Dr. Greenfield likely authorized Lisa to call all of the non-cancerous results people. But as it turns out, my mom does have breast cancer again. Lisa never said, I'm sorry. Not even on reflex. How horrible to think that you're clear, only to be told that you're not and that some incompetent called the wrong person. Dr. Greenfield went on to say that the cancer isn't in the lymph node as originally thought, but that she couldn't explain it or where it was. You can't explain it?! Why is that? Do you have a language barrier or do you just not know?! My mom and I finally reached her Penn Philly team later in the day to discuss the results. They were able to explain it just fine. Neither of us are doctors, but we understood everything at the end of the conversation. They also said, "we're sorry you went to Radnor." A scheduler friend of mine told me that there are constant problems at Radnor because of their rude staff members. I recommend staying away. If you can get to UPenn in Philly, there's no doubt that it's the better option. read more
