Providing individual large bedrooms connected to a common area and bathroom. Bedrooms and common area all had TV's and common area had mini fridge and coffee maker. The HVAC system worked perfectly with modern climate controls. What a bonus to have the Canary brewpub directly downstairs. Good brews and cocktails with a limited menu of excellent food. If you are looking for lodging in Walsenburg, don't miss the opportunity of staying at The Lofts.

Mike was an outstanding host with world class breakfasts each morning, top tier hospitality, and fun conversations. It truly felt as if we were right at home and part of the Cuchara family. Mike is deeply involved in the comeback of Cuchara mountain ski area and its was fun to stay with somebody so passionate about the success of this mountain town. We can't wait to visit again!

Mike's inn is perched on the banks of a rushing creek (and the lawn out back along the creek is pure paradise), and when you stay here, you feel welcome enough to feel like family, without all the social obligations that come with staying with family. Mike is a local legend, everyone knows him. He is the driving force behind the re-opening of the ski resort in Cuchara, and has been in the ski business his whole professional life. He is a gracious, kind host...quiet and reserved, but is happy to chat if you engage him. He's a SUPERB cook (and this is coming from a chef!), and his breakfasts are truly outstanding. The place is supremely dog friendly, with no extra charge for a pet. (A huge savings if you're staying a week.) Yes...this is an older home, converted to an inn. (Each suite has a full kitchen.) This is not The W. Don't come expecting that. We found our suite to be twice the size we expected, supremely comfy, and the price was spot-on for such a wonderful stay with breakfast every day, and an unlimited source of information about the area. Now run by Bruce and Nicole, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. The room was extremely clean, likewise the bathroom. Bed was super-comfortable and the Air Conditioning did it's job excellently. Had a very nice large screen television with Roku. All in all, I would give it six out of five stars. And the price was very affordable. I think I'll stay there again next time I visit my old home town.

We had to use the general bathroom if we wanted a shower. (I was ok with that.) La Veta is a very small town at the base of the Spanish Peaks in southern Colorado. This place has many positive points, my favorite of which is the wonderful coffee and breakfast cooked and served by our host. I would be remiss though, if I didn't point out a couple of negatives as a "just so you know". There is NO air conditioning so on hot days, even with the windows open and fans running at night, it is warm. We didn't perish but it didn't inspire snuggling. The second issue for me was the lack of a stand-up shower. There is a nice claw foot tub with a 3' rubber thing that you plug one end into the spigot and a shower spray comes out the other end. However considering its 3' length I had to kneel in the tub to rinse my hair and do my bathing. No, I am not a bath person. For my $105 I wish they'd install a stand up shower fixture and an oblong ring at the top from which to hang a shower curtain. Our beds were very comfortable and the overall ambiance is pleasant. We enjoyed the teeny tiny town of La Veta; it is worth getting off the beaten path to visit.

Cara is one of the sweetest people we've ever met, and iIt was really the little things she did that made all the difference...letting my mother-in-law order stuff and send it to the ranch to put in storage, letting us drop things off early the day before the wedding, coming over to tell us that we didn't have to rush out of there the next day.....every single person just had SO much fun! We got so many compliments on what an absolutely breathtaking venue we had chosen. The kids had tons of room to run around on and fly kites, our friends were able to bring their dogs, lawn games galore, there's a working fire pit, a brand new back patio, you can choose to get married under a gazebo or in the field in front of the mountains, they built a beautiful reception pavilion already decorated with lights, you can arrive in a horse-drawn carriage if you get married on the weekend, you hire all your own vendors and set things up exactly how you want it....and the absolute best part about this venue is that our friends got to camp anywhere they wanted on the property for 2 nights! That means we were able to dance ALL night long, and then just crawl into your tent when you got tired. I honestly cannot say enough good things about this ranch and the owners. We couldn't have asked for a more perfect wedding venue at an extremely reasonable price. Forever grateful we found Cara and her incredible ranch!!!

The Uptop Depot was built by the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad Company in 1877, at Old La Veta Pass. The world's highest narrow gauge railroad. Elevation of 9,382 feet. There is a little Chapel open to the public and really old cool building. The husband is an avid mountain biker and rides the climb to old La Veta Pass from La Veta. I meet him by car ....a quite place ........you can just imagine the little town as it was. Worth a side trip.
