This is one of the best hole-in-the-wall/hidden gems/minority and family-owned joints you can find in Albemarle, NC. They offer a variety of food items from subs to pizza to burgers, sandwiches, wings, fried rice, you name it. But to be honest, I've come here for years and am very biased about their subs, especially the Super Sub and the popular Steak Sub, and their chicken wings. So, if you're new, I highly recommend starting off with those. The perks of this place is that it's simple, no frills, run by family, food is served hot and freshly made. Right now, with the pandemic still ongoing, they're not doing dine-in but are offering pickup. Best steak sub I've ever had! Service was pretty good, did take quite a bit longer than we were told on the phone but it's worth the wait.

Used to love this place. Now when you order a salad, you don't get the house made dressings. I can spend $10 and make homemade dressing and a better salad. To clarify, their menu states "packs" of dressing, not "cups". Still when you spend $10 on a salad, you would expect something better than that. Soooo disappointed. I have been coming to Penny's for over 15 years. The food is always consistently delicious and the service is great. You know you frequent a place when you start to place your order they already know who you are. That's what makes the atmosphere so special. Best steak subs ever! The meat is so tender and juicy it's just dripping off! I love it. Oh and don't forget the fries! Yummy. I'm only visiting Albemarle and Penny's was recommended by an acquaintance of mine. I have reviewed other reviews of this establishment and I wished I had paid closer attention to what I ordered. By far the WOREST pizza I've ever tasted. Way too much cheese and the sauce tasted like ketchup. This thing reminded me of those pizza kits the sold at B-Lo. I took one bite and wanted to throw up. Instead, I got up with the so-called "pie" and threw it in the trash which may have insulted everything that was already coexisting in the bag. I went back to the counter and ordered their "award wining fries", according to the Stanley County paper. Kinda hard to F up fries but sure as hell nowhere near award winning. If I had to do it again (which thankfully, I won't) I'd go to CC's. It's cheaper and more importantly, resembles pizza. read more

The only reason I'm giving two stars to this place is because service was OK. I'm not sure about the subs, but do NOT go here for the pizza! Unless for some odd reason you like cardboard with no sauce and mediocre toppings. Seriously, this was the worst pizza I've ever had. A couple guys with me got the lasagna and described it as expensive Chef Boy-Ar-Dee, and it hit them hard once we got back to our hotel.
