I was staying at the hotel and late in the night I decided I was hungry. I will tell you if Al is working your food and service will be amazing. He took care of me top notch and made my food very quick and it was very delicious. I surely hope the best for him as we had quite the conversation about the food service industry and the history of Penny's Diner. ​I got a history lesson in the RR company as my uncle worked for the railroad for many years and my mom and aunt also worked in the area. read more

Air conditioning was dripping on my friend and her plate. She had to keep moving around the booth. The menu was a typed list with no descriptions or prices. Weird. Staff was nice but not above and beyond. Food was ok but again nothing special. read more

Look, I am a mobile disc jokey and I love when a city has a 24 hour place to get a bite to eat after I'm done making music and traveling. I get so excited when my route takes me through Glenwood in anticipation of decent food to fill my tummy. I am writing this after giving Pennys about 8 opportunities in the last year. Five, yes Five of those times you walk up to the door and find that they are "closed to the public." On the other side of the glass people are happily eating and enjoying hot coffee, but for some reason this experience is only available for hotel guests. The sign is still illuminated saying open, but you have to be part of a club to get in. I understand times are tough and everyone is short staffed, but your already open for others, take my money! Also, the price of the menu items has gone up steeply, and sides have too, so your tip will naturally translate to more money if you wait on the tables! Anyway, if you get to eat here the portions are decent and the food is pretty well on point, but just save yourself time late night and don't stop. --Frustrated and hungry. read more

Horrible, horrible, horrible. We didn't have the opportunity to try the food as we were tired of waiting the 50 minutes. Our ice had melted in our drinks. The cook was confirming the table behind us order and we had been there 30 minutes before them. No one acknowledged us after bringing or drinks. Had bird's eye view of the grill. He didn't start our order. Noticed we were one of for couples in the 50 minute timeframe that either walked out or were turned away. How's it they're still in business? read more

Years past we have stopped here and it was really good. Maybe under new ownership? Had lunch here recently and were very disappointed. The menus were stapled photo copies...no prices listed. While we waited for our food, we noticed the dirty floor, greasy light fixtures and walls that could use a good scrubbing. Once the food came, it was average and just edible. Since there were no prices listed on the menu and we needed to go to the register to find out the bill. Chicken strips(3), fries and a soft drink...$16, Hopped up Hashbrowns (hash browns, veggies, ham and cheese) and soft drink...($15), and a single patty hamburger with a slice of tomato, onion, lettuce and pickles, onion rings (which were really good) and a soft drink...($17). The one star rating is for the Onion Rings. I like to give my business to local hometown and family owned businesses but in this case, we wished we would have gone to McDonalds. Because of work I'm often hopping from 24 hour diner to 24 hour diner, and as far as greasy spoons goes this place is pretty legitimate. The staff were very friendly and for 2am the service was solid. Ella was very kind. I liked that I could order my food on my phone since I was well past the point of being able to talk I was so tired. The pancakes were great. read more

Completely disgusting. I wouldn't order food without a shot first. They haven't cleaned in, well, forever. Waitress didn't know they made shakes. Guy that I'm guessing he was staff, was talking in his phone while cooking, touched raw meat with bare hands then grabbed the fry basket handle before grabbing his phone again. As he finished with the grill, left everything he touched covered in oil. Never coming back. read more

Have only been here for breakfasts. Never go unless you want to sit and visit a while. Coffee refills are not very timely either. Service could be stepped up, faster and friendlier; should never take over an hour to get breakfast. Once it arrives, the food is good. read more

Ate at Penny's a few months ago and like the food and service. We ate there twice today and both times the service was miserable. We're pretty patient so we waited a good while for our food it was good, and we went away happy. We went back tonight, and with six people in the restaurant we waited more than 45 minutes and our food wasn't even being cooked yet. Watched the waitress grab my salad out of a container with a glove and push the salad back on the plate with a bare hand. I asked for ranch dressing, which was already open when I reviewed it. Asked the cook for another dressing and he said sure, but did nothing. After an hour we all cancelled our order and went home. Huge disappointment. Will never go back! read more

Just had one of the worst dining experiences ever! Waitress took our order, 10 minutes later came back with our drinks - coffee for my sister, which she did not order, coke for my husband, and forgot my orange juice. We ordered two big breakfasts, my sister and I were going to share one and a cinnamon roll. About 10 minutes later the waitress flies by dropping a caramel roll on our table. When she came by a little bit later we said we ordered a cinnamon roll. She said "oh we don't have any cinnamon rolls just the caramel, I have to put the cinnamon ones in the oven yet and I don't want to yet because I may burn them." We waited about 40 minutes when she come with the pancakes, which were thin and rubbery. Ten minutes later the rest of our food comes. Runny over medium eggs, bacon that was barely warmed, very dark sausage and toast that was too done and rock hard. I picked it up and there was an animal hair on it! I will never go back or recommend this place to anyone! read more
