Seems most of the reviews here concern the admin staff, not the docors or PA's. I've been going to the Newburyport office for many, many years. Now known as Mass Brigham. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They only make appointments for people with health insurance.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Mass Health canceled my insurance because they said I made too much money working as a cashier at a local grocery store. Went to the emergency room at AJH and was treated for high glucose (518). I was treated and released and my follow up care was to make an appointment for the next day to see my PCP Dr. Beaudoin. Was not allowed to make an appointment, because it would have to be self pay, and the estimate was $426 for an office visit. I'm not rich; I don't have this kind of money. MGB wants payment up front, and was not willing to discuss a payment plan. So no office visit, no medication for my Type II diabetes. MGB does NOT care about their patients, or their patients' quality of life. THEY JUST WANT MONEY! I've instructed my son that upon my death from LACK OF CARE for treatment of my diabetes, he is to retain an attorney and take legal action against Mass Health and MGB. read more

I had and appointment today 11:40...was running late and called at about 11:35 from the RT 95 Ramp...told them I would be between 5 to 8 minutes late.. they said I should of been there 11:20 - 20 minutes before my 11:40 appointment.... and said I was more than 20 minutes late...appointment cancelled .. reschedule early April, 2025.. with NP not Doctor. The cancelled appointment.. took 6 months to make and now I have to wait another 4 months with an NP. Doesn't make sense.... if they tell me my appointment is 11:40.. and I am 4 minutes late ... and I called... they can cancel"?.. because I should know that I must be there 20 minutes before my appointment... why did they not tell me that up front? I'm leaving this review on behalf of my good friend who had a less than desirable experience with the administration staff checking him in and allowing him to wait 45 minutes. After he inquired with the front desk, they spoke amongst themselves for 5 minutes before telling him his appointment was cancelled but not updated in their system. I'm giving this review 2 stars because I was impacted on the 2nd degree... if it were me, I would be giving you a 1 star. I will gladly update this review if he is properly accommodated. Parking continues to be terrible. They need a parking garage here but that would be tough too. Doesn't really matter what time you get here that you should expect to walk a distance to get to the building. That's ok if you aren't sick or don't have an injury. CON: Parking Other than the terrible parking scene, this is a convenient location to meet with the doctor of your needs. There are several specialty care physicians in this building which makes it a great stop for multiple visits. POS: Many doctors We are still having to wear a mask but I expect that trend to continue for a very long time, if not indefinitely. I can see if I were sick - coughing, sneezing, etc - to wear a mask. But if I am here for an X-ray, that should be up to the individual, as long as I am not sick. CON: Mask Appointments are mostly done online these days which is very convenient. This office building is very attentive to having staff respond using the electronic messaging program. I have scheduled last minute appointments using the online messaging system. POS: Attentive with secure messaging Scheduling first visit with primary care takes much too long, about a year for me to wait which is unheard of. For me to see the doctor, it is very difficult but there are CNP and NP on staff who can assist. PRO: On-staff medical other than medical doctor. CON: Scheduling with primary care Overall rating is somewhat balanced with more positive than negative because of the friendly staff and also attentive to patient needs. Been coming here my whole life and the past few years, this place has gone down the tubes and today was the final straw and had to switch PCP's. I can't even get a prescription filled for medications they tell me I have to take daily in a timely manner. 5 days???? Also, their phone staff are rude and don't actually care about the patients. The doctors are fine, but one PA in particular is incredibly rude and not just one time seeing him. Every time I go it's one thing or another where I'm leaving thinking what crawled up his behind? I could go on forever on all the piss poor experiences I've had here.... But that nightmare is over. I was a patient of Dr. Schwartz for over seven years when out of the blue I received a call that she was dropping most of her patients. It is important that I see a female doctor and they were unable to offer me a female doctor for primary care. On top of that, calling Pentucket medical is a nightmare. I have learned to expect extremely long hold times and less than helpful staff once you actually get through to someone. My advice -- go elsewhere. I went in to have a physical last year. The woman at the front desk told me that I had an unpaid office visit. This was impossible because I didnt go in for a office visit. I called billing and they said they would remove it. I then got a billed again but thought it was for my physical. They said my insurance did not pay for it. The insurance company said that they used the wrong code. I called them and asked them to rebill it under the right code. They ended up betting paid for the physical but are continuing to bill me for the office visit. They said that I asked a question so they have the right to bill for an extra visit. They asked all of the questions and I just answer. They had this all planned and already had this visit billed before I even walked in the door. Last year I noticed I had two appointments for the same day. I called them and she said they automatically do that so they can discuss any blood work from the year before. I told her to cancel one of the appointments. Just be aware when you go in to have a physical that you discuss nothing unless you are prepared to pay another $250.00. I went to Pentucket Medical for years in Georgetown and never had a problem like this. Very disappointing! read more

I really love the team of doctors, medical assistants & nurses, and receptionists at Pentucket Medical. They have always been helpful, caring, and quick to answer any questions or give any needed advice or care! I have seen Dr. Schoonmacher and Amber Klein-Adams, both incredible physicians who are attentive and listen carefully. I have since moved further away but continue to go to Pentucket Medical for my primary care needs because they are so stellar! read more

I am truly frustrated. There is no way you can call and talk to your MD's staff. None of the prompts offer you that option. I finally just kept pushing buttons until I finally got a person to talk. I know that they want you to use the portal. I am fine with that, but a week later and you still have not had a response to your inquiry, you would like to know why! I was told by the person that the portal had been down for a couple of days. SERIOUSLY!?! If they knew that, they should have supplied a phone number to call. I love my MD and staff, but I am more than ready to switch as I can't get in touch with them. read more

I usually have excellent care here. Referrals are put through the next day. They are changing their referrals-to partners e care. It is awful . I've called hundreds of times been put on hold talked to many(5) call center employees. I also then called for a appointment then was put on hold for 30 minutes to talk to a secretary and then to be called back by a nurse. I absolutely hate the new system it's awful and I'm considering going to a new practice that answers the phone when you call and clearly puts in a referral for you or explains how to do it. I still don't know how to put in a referral to them. It is a disaster. When it comes to your health you need answers now not tomorrow or whenever. It is a epic fail and I am so frustrated. read more

I have always made out good with the medical staff at PMA. The administrative staff (for the most part), is a different story. The flippant young man just inside the door was more interested in watching videos on his lap top than helping people coming in the door. The woman at the counter took my info, (I had checked in on line earlier), told me to go to second floor waiting room. After sitting there for 45 minutes I went back down stairs and said I would need to reschedule. She checked and found no one had told the upstairs people I was there. I am disappointed. I thought it was a better run place than that. If it wasn't for the medical staff I would be gone in a heart beat. read more

ZERO STARS the absolute WORST healthcare you could ever receive! They don't care about their patients and won't give you the best or even mediocre care. They don't listen they don't have respect and they don't provide treatment. This does not go for the assistant staff who are all lovely people this goes for the people getting the big bucks who walked all over my mom and myself for years. U'll b seen by unfriendly medical assistants and a different nurse practitioner every time u go in without anyone telling you that... They will b unfamiliar with your past medical history and won't take time to prepare for you as a patient... U won't b able to c your primary care physician after your initial visit because they use physicians only initially just to get you in and get your business... After that it will b a series of nurse practitioners who can't make most immediate decisions without checking with the doctor first... Which means it will take days until u get care u need... U'll b treated as a robot with a serial number, not as a human being in need of compassionate health care... Great place for robot repair though... read more

I had a horrible experience with Pentucket Medical in Newburyport. The office staff is rude and they have a policy of essentially not answering their phone. I needed an updated letter of medical necessity for medical supplies. The company I order from tried to get the letter for two weeks without being able to talk to anyone. Why? They couldn't get anyone to answer the phone and refuse to have voice mail. They finally called me to contact them and I had a similar experience. After letting the phone ring for five minutes, someone answered who told me they don't answer the phone if they are currently on the phone. I pointed out that voice mail should pick up, the receptionist responded, "then we would do nothing but answer the phone." I finally got a call back from the nurse who also was unconcerned about the difficulty I had getting in touch with anyone. The nurse told me she would have the office manager, Sharon Murphy, call me back. That night I did get a phone call from the nurse who said the reason the letter hadn't been written was because the company faxed it to the wrong person; a fact that could have been easily cleared up days ago if the company could leave a message or speak to someone. I then heard nothing from the Sharon Murphy so I called again. After waiting a full five minutes for someone to answer the phone I had to leave another message for her to call me back. She called back the next morning and told me that she didn't return my original call because the nurse told her it was all cleared up. I pointed out that my issue wasn't the letter but the fact that it took so long to get cleared up because no one could get in touch with the staff. She rudely told me, "we have never had voice mail and we will never have voice mail, and we don't get many complaints." I had had it at this point, so I told her that I am complaining and would be changing my doctor. She said fine and hung up. Thank god I didn't have an actual medical issue or emergency that I needed to discuss. This sounds like a nice way of avoiding having to deal with patients. read more

I would disagree with many of the posted reviews. I have been a patient here for over 11 years. My PCP is here and is great. His team of NP's is phenomenal. Its not always the easiest to get thru on the phone but I always get a call back. When sick I can get into seeing somebody within a day or two. May not be my regular doctor but somebody on the team. They all share the same computerized chart so have all my history in front of them. I had to see a cardiologist downstairs and he was awesome. I did not have anything serious in the end but had the appropriate testing done right away and go tthe good news. I had my first colonoscopy too with Pentucket. It was done in their procedure center in Haverhill. Let me tell you that place was the bomb. Nurses were so nice and kind. My procedure was painless. The doctor was great. My wife had a procedure at the local hospital and it was night and day. The hospital was old dirty and they were running late. Yeah there have been times when the doctor or Nurse Practioner has run a little behind. I would rather they took the time they need with each person then just rush to keep on schedule. read more

Every time I call, there is at least a 10 minute wait to speak to someone!! I am not calling a major corporation. Richard. I move to mass about a year ago and change my doctors to local doctors. In December chest pain sent me to the hospital. After a complete cardiac work up that show that my heart was fine he could have passed me back to my PC doctor, but he ordered a test of my gallbladder which ended up being the problem. read more

Not helpful at all! I've been a patient with them for over 12 years. I recently moved and correctly filled out all the forms for my medical release to my new doctor. A month goes by and they still have not sent them over. (I have contacted PMA quite a few times within this month for these records to be sent). I now am almost out of a prescription, my new doctor can't fill it yet because they still don't have my records and now PMA doctor won't fill it because I haven't had an appointment with them since last year. (Again, I moved and have been trying to go to a new doctor). They clearly don't care if you have asthma and now can't breathe because they won't fill a prescription. Two thumbs down. I have been a patient at PMA for 20 years. Love my doctor and each and every NP and PA who has ever taken care of me over the years. I believe I have always received excellent medical care and that the staff is caring and concerned. Once in a great while they are running extremely behind but that is rare. I do not have ongoing chronic issues but have had some weird stuff happen to me over the years! I've always received a call back (thanks T !) when I have a concern or need an appointment and have always been taken care of and fit in if it was anything critical. *** My one complaint is that over the past year, the few times I have called, no one answers. The recording goes on and on. So I do try to use the Patient Portal whenever possible. Also, check-in now has been more frustrating. Don't know if the check-in people are doing more tasks so they can't take your name and mark the time that you've arrived? Anyway, I'm very happy with the practice and think everyone overall is wonderful. read more

Pentucket Medical represents just what is wrong with our health care system. I found a doctor there after we moved to Newburyport, MA, and this doctor gets very good reviews. Unfortunately, she works within a very broken, impersonal system with an administrative/billing department that is just plain incompetent. I have had to protest every bill I've gotten from them, and by their own admission, each bill was a mistake. One was not coded by them to accurately reflect what happened during my office visit. When they attempted to correct it, it got worse. The next bill was for $700+ for a simple office visit (to have 3 prescriptions renewed), they double-billed for that one visit, and STILL miscoded it.....I wouldn't recommend Pentucket Medical to ANYONE. Pentucket Medical is a very terrible medical institution. A lot of the doctors are very apathetical and they could careless about peoples' health. This is why I left, because there are so many problems. Either it is in Lawrence, Newburyport, Haverhill, North Andover or wherever, it is a very bad medical institution. read more

Worst doctors office I have ever been to, not only do the nurses suggest u go to the hospital because they are too busy, and God forbid u ask to talk to your pc doctor, the doctors will not an do not return phone calls! The receptionist are mostly nice; except for one..... Worst treatment I ever received. Ive since changed and got a new PC doctor, I honestly don't know why I put up with it.....I guess I was so used to their horrible treatment, after going to a new doctor I realize that #1 patient care is NOT their primary goal # 2 There are too many patients that the staff can't handle it I hope more people leave so maybe they can take better care of their patience. Sorry but this place is awful, you are better off walking into ANY ER in the country than going here. Doctors even prescribe prescriptions that you are allergic to because they have too many patients (I hope) or it's just complete incompetence. Either way WORST OFFICE EVER read more

If I could give no stars I would, 1 star is super generous. I had previously mentioned in another review about my horrible experience. Whelp, here I am again URGING people to avoid this practice at all costs. I had called yesterday to speak with a nurse regarding something that was going on with me, never had I asked for an appointment, I simply wished to speak to a nurse to determine what was the best way to go about my medical issues, suggestions, etc.. for hours we played phone tag...JUST TO GET ONE QUESTION ANSWERED. I explained that I was working and if she could call me asap that would be great. Every time the nurse Alicia called I would call back within 2 minutes....for over an hour every two minutes I was calling back and was told she'd call me later and that she was busy. Eventually, the staff became very snippy and rude. FAR from professional, and I was actually quite upset with the way I was treated. They simply do not care I felt like I was bothering them just by requesting to speak to a nurse, this is coming from someone in the medical field and who is in nursing school, everything I was taught not to do they are doing. DO NOT COME HERE. I ended up withdrawing from their practice. I'd have better luck going to an urgent care or emergency room and receive better care for something minor than going to this practice. CORPORATE WHERE ARE YOU? Clearly this facility has nothing but bad reviews online, does this not say anything? What do I have to do for my voice to be heard? read more

The general practice of this group is one of inconsideration for their patients. After two attempts to get in touch with the doctor on call, I was returned with a call from a snotty and unprofessional nurse who didn't listen and could have cared less that I was a patient. A second attempt after hours to the doctor on call was to a RUDE and condescending NP/MD who was on call that interrupted me several times as I explained what was happening and was clearly irritated that I interrupted her evening. This is NOT the only time that this has happened within Pentucket, They have NO respect for their patients and the care they give. John Sarro is a wonderful president with the respect and cares for the patients his team serves...Unfortunately there are too many doctors and staff in his practices who do quite the opposite. I wish there was a possible less than zero rating. My husband had the misfortune of seeing Dr. Shah for a cardiologist. His ego is so big, I'm not sure how he fits through a doorway. He was INCREDIBLY unprofessional. My husband had to stay overnight at Anna Jacques. When Dr. Shah came in, he never once looked at me or addressed me when I asked questions. I asked him if I should just shut up and wait for questions until he was done. He asked me if there was a problem. I told him what the problem was. A couple of weeks later, when my husband's symptoms weren't getting better, we had to see him again. We asked him about an angiogram and our PCP wanted to make sure we requested one. His reply? He didn't take orders from an internist. He went over the possible bad side effects of an angiogram. He didn't seem to think it was warranted. I asked him what his track record was for this procedure. (I thought it was a legitimate question???). He said he didn't understand the question, so I repeated it. He then went on to say that we obviously don't feel comfortable with him as a doctor and that we should go to Boston. I left the room before I said something I would regret. He then looked at my husband and said, "You and your wife must think I'm a dick." I almost choked when my husband told me this! If you are told to see Dr. Shah, please, please, please, don't walk, run away!! Run to Boston!! We did. My husband just had an angiogram and they found a massive blockage (over 90%), and successfully had a stent put in. He is safe and sound at home and on the mend. I cannot stress enough how much you should avoid Dr. Shah. He is a terrible, terrible man and doctor! read more
