Penuche's. The Nooch. A friend of mine told me a story about the time he accidentally (his words) smoked crack in Penuche's. IN the bar. Penuche's has three locations in New Hampshire - I've only ever been to the Keene one. They have cheap beer, and The Nooch is well known and loved by all who like to drink. It's dark and dirty in here, clouds of cigarette smoke (before the fascists banned smoking in NH) and free, all you can eat, super salty popcorn. By cheap beer I mean they have a Kick the Keg special nearly every weekend, in which draughts are fifty or seventy five cents. Long Trail for a buck on Thursdays - cheap shots, and so on... Another thing - this is the kind of place where if you walk in before noon on a Tuesday and order a few rounds of bourbon and a bunch of beers, nobody looks at you like you're weird or something. Odds are you won't be the only one doing it. Overall, a legendary and heroic monument to drunkeness, alcoholism, and good old fashioned fun. read more

I hit this place up while in Keene for a concert a few months back. I was expecting to walk in and get the 'What the hell are these old people doing here!?!' look that I would have given to someone like me If my young college self saw my old ass 37 year old self walk in now. There were no college kids in the bar. It was weird. Their was no more line out the door. It was not spring break week. Still just beer and cordials, and as the other's indicated awesome popcorn. This place is dark, it is dingy- althoug 10-20% less dingy than when I was in college in 1992-1996. Folks that were there were friendly. Beer is still 2 bucks a pint- that is zero inflation from my college daze. I still reccomend this place if you want to get loaded and watch a baseball game, or go get drunk with friends any night of the week. No chow, but delivery guy friendly. If you like beer and you find yourself in Keene, this place has a great selection, cheap, so do the right thing. read more

When coming across NH on 101 or up 12, usher yourself onto Keene Main St. At the first roundabout: 12 o'clock will yield the a "true" downtown, 9 o'clock, a house party, and at 3 o'clock you will find the criminally overlooked Penuche's. This is a true live free or die ale haus. I've always seen the same, friendly bar tender and always taken advantage of the well-priced beers of the month, which ranges over a wide variety of beer types. Sure, it is a dimly lit, well worn dive, but this place is overloaded with character. If you are not a townie or Keene State academic, then "roll deep" as they say and bring your own good time. I spy darts, a foosball table, and popcorn machine with legs like Betty Grable! Also an old school television set with a Magic Hat logo and static to boot, go to Penuche's...you won't spend all your heard-earned loot. read more

I love this bar. It never fails me. Drinks are poured as they should be. Obviously the owner is from a better time when owning a bar was about more than just penny pinching. Bars like this are meant for one thing. Drinking and laughter. If you want something more on the classy side, go elsewhere. If you want to drink your worries away, you won't spend too much doing it here, and the people are always interesting. I mean it's Keene for gods sake. I'm a little bias of this bar due to I have some great memories here. The bar has a great, local feel and there are usually more locals than college students. The atmosphere is very hometown bar. It doesn't try to be a special bar. It's a bar, and it knows it is. It even gives honors to the regulars. If you want to experience a small town New England bar, this is the place to be. read more

Penuche's is Keene's townie dive bar. It generally holds a few locals even early in the afternoon but rarely has many college kids. It's a good place to meet up with friends and grab a cheap beer. Drafts are usually 2 to 4 dollars and well drinks are 4, as well as different specials each night. They have TVs, foosball, pool, darts, a pay for play jukebox and video game machine, as well as free popcorn and peanuts. Graffiti is encouraged in the bathrooms and on the walls as is ordering take out. All in all a good place to drink for cheap with friends and adorable bartenders but is definitely not for the faint of heart. read more

If it isn't too much of a contradiction, this place is highest quality dive bar in Keene! Wicked cheap drink prices, fun things to do, (pool, darts, foosball, video games, etc.) dark, with carved up and written on tables and bathroom doors from many a drunk patron, and an owner who still remembers a face, and usually a name, even if you haven't been in for a few years. Loved it in the past because it was close to the college and the words "cut off" were never uttered, love it now because it seems like most of today's college kids don't know it exists! This was the place to finish the night "back in the day" now it's just fun to stop in for a beer for the nostalgia. read more

Cheap drinks, good times! Me and my friends go here all the time for beat the clock on Tuesday's and dollar wells on Wednesday's! You can't beat that classic dive bar atmosphere. Really can't beat cheap beer on tap, and good beers at times at that. The only complaint I have is when it's 2 bucks for all beer on top and I see someone get s Bud beer when you could drink a Long Trail or something far better, for the same price! Awesome bar! Dirt cheap drinks and free popcorn. The whole bar is carved up with initials and such and makes for a cool vibe. Maybe a bit on the trashy side but if you are looking to get drunk, this is the place for you. read more
