Two stars is a stretch in our case. I've been too many funerals at this place, had family deaths managed at this place but our latest was a total mess. Anything and everything that could go wrong, it seems, went wrong. I would NEVER go there again.

There was no question that we would be going to them again. You hope that the individual working with you has both knowledge and compassion. The man that was this individual for us was, and still is, Jesse Flores. Jesse took us in and made us part of the Home's family. From the first interaction, Jesse held us up enough for us to make the decisions that needed to be made. There was no pressure from Jesse at all. He is compassionate, gentle, and good. I know that we, my mom specifically, would not have been able to make it through the death and funeral planning by ourselves. This is very important. My brother was in the military and we wanted him to be buried at the Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery. There was one glitch after another. Finally, we were able to get approval to bury Matthew there. This was only accomplished because of Jesse and his tireless determination in helping us. Jesse Flores is our main reason to go back to McGilley. He is truly an angel sent by God, with a gift of compassion that is unmeasurable.

Also, someone said that I was supposed to come in again to discuss grave markers as it was a sensitive subject. Already handled sensitive subjects such as a casket, the memorial program for instance and paid $18,000 for a simple graveside service. Also, I paid $3,700 for the staff's salary excluding the minister. The minister did a phenomenal job and did far more work than the funeral home staff and only received $500. Why should the consumer pay the funeral home staff's salary? The funeral home should pay their staff's salary. Don't use this place!! Also, the business' response is not accurate. Shannon did NOT reach out to me to purchase a grave marker--only for me to pick up a copy of the deed for the plot that was purchased and it was eventually mailed many months later.

The contract had been taken home and forged along with a check. My father in law had full blown dementia at this point and it was quite obvious. They did not not require a notary or proof of signature; they gladly took a check for nearly 18,000 dollars with no proof of identification. He is now buried in St Louis beside his wife (as per his Will). Yet, his photo and his wife's photo are being displayed in a mausoleum along side another couple. We can't even get them to remove and return the photos. So, they put up pictures, and charged 18k. Despicable place!

It has been 9 months and a lot of conversation, mistakes and horrible customer service. They finally placed the headstone but removed all the memorial decorations that has been there since the funeral. We take care of the grave site. They throw all of our items away. They did not reach out to us. They are horrible people. The headstone was more then the grave site. They could not do anything right...we had to meet with them over and over again. Take time of work because they were not emailing or call us. I would never recommend this place.

The carpet was badly in need of vacuuming and the room in general had a disheveled appearance. To me this indicates no interest in presenting a good first impression. While making the arrangements it was revealed that my Father had been buried in the wrong space 18 years earlier. As a result the grave marker was out of line in order to have his name above his space. My Mother was then to be interred next to him on the other side meaning the names on the marker are backwards. At the time I went along with this but in retrospect wish that I had insisted on a new marker at their expense. At no time was any sort of apology offered for their mistake. This also necessitated moving the marker over so it is at least in front of both of their resting places. As of today, 3 weeks after the internment, it has not been moved so obviously it's not a priority for them. At least they put 2018 under her name on the marker (which I could have done with a screwdriver). My family and I will be spending our eternities elsewhere.

Michelle and everyone there not only held our hand during the entire process of our sweet mother's arrangements, they wrapped their arms around our entire family! We were numb and still in shock from our sudden loss, but Michelle helped us focus on what we really wanted mom's service to mean, and walked us through building a beautiful, simplified presentation--just like mom would've wanted. Mom's been gone 8 months now, but I STILL think of this place and how well they took care of us, to this day. In honor of 'Nat'l Funeral Directors & Morticians' day today, I'm happy to whole-heartedly recommend this home to anyone who may be dealing with a loss and looking for a place where they will be handled with care, respect, and dignity. The chapel is just lovely and their attention to detail made all the difference.
