When those days came and went and we didn't get any phone calls we called them to see what is up. They apologized and said that it was the wrong uncle D (same first name) and it was another family member that was paid for, not my FIL, all while giving us the first and last names of some other family they were doing services for durring this time. They told us for the inconvenience we could have the $20 death certificate for free. We gave them the benefit of the doubt. Since we unexpectedly needed to pay $1000 we needed two days for our bank to transfer funds so we asked if that would delay the cremation process. We were told that it would NOT delay the cremation process and that my FIL would again be ready for pick up in a few days. The next week after still not ever getting a single phone call or courtesy call we called back AGAIN to see why he wasn't ready. We were told he hadn't even been cremated yet as we hadn't paid...if we knew it needed sent we would have paid it the first week. It took FIVE times of them telling us he would be ready before I was actually able to pick up the ashes. When I was told my FIL was ready to pick up I was never given a time or appointment. When I showed up I had to sit in the car with my 1 year old for 35 minutes because he still wasn't even there... of course after mentioning all this to the owner he, like stated before me, did not take responsibility. I was told his rececptionist didn't tell us any of that and that that didnt happen, and that because he "trains his staff so well" he "knows it wasn't a mistake on their end". He had some sticky note with "9-2" written on it and said that he wasn't there because it wasn't my appointment time and that's my fault. He did let me know that payment before cremation was in the fine print we signed, which of course is our fault for not reading, yes, but the fact that we obviously didnt know that and specifically asked and was told it wouldnt delay the process was so wrong. My FIL layed in a freezer for 2 weeks before he was finally ready 15 days later. The owner also went on to tell me information about the previous Google reviews and how he's in a lawsuit with them and why..not sure about that but either way he was giving out MORE INFORMATION about other people that he did services for! If I knew he would tell me that much about others I wouldn't have trusted him with our family member or our family information! Also the "Urn" we paid for was just a thin black plastic box with their sticker on it.. Aaannnndddd...que the denial response

He still had emesis on his mouth from when they completed CPR 7 days prior. the sheet they had him laying on had blood on it. Worst of all, the bed was too high to give him a final kiss goodbye. My father in law passed away in the evening at his assistant living facility & I had to call for a funeral home to pick him up. Serenity arrived there in a timely fashion & was very empathic to us. They remained professional during the whole time of moving our loved one. I had tons of questions & to make matters more complicated I was leaving the country the next day. During all of my questions, changes to the obituary, etc. Mr. Akins, Curtis & other staff remained extremely helpful, understanding & professional. You don't find this type of customer service in very many businesses in today's time. I feel more then confident to take anyone of my family members to Serenity when that time comes. Most have no qualms about playing on your grief and weakened state to hit you with markups and up charges. If you are in a place where you can pay attention to details you quickly learn that you should never order anything (flowers, catering, car service, etc) from the funeral home. They tend to average 200% - 800% markups. This is especially true where the casket is concerned. Luckily for me a friend had been though this and pointed me to this business. Direct Casket Outlet despite the sound of its name is a small locally owned business. It is a bit out of the way to find, but worth the trip. The husband and wife that own it handle pretty much everything them selfs so there is little risk of anything falling though the cracks. They were patient and understanding. It was very clear that their only focus was on what we needed and what they could do to help us. Not only did they NEVER push us to spend more they actually talked us into spending $1000 less! Let me repeat that. They knowingly gave up an additional $1000 just because they did not believe it was in our interest to spend it! That is a VERY rare thing to find any more. This is not anything I look forward to going though again, but when it does happen this where I will be going. Not just for the casket, but for recommendations for funeral homes and anything else we might need. I was that impressed and trust them that much!

After learning the devastating news my mother and I began the horrible task of funeral planning. At the time we were deciding between a casket or a cremation. His oldest son accompanied us to the casket store but we told him to wait outside in the car.. As my mother and I sat down at the table with one of the owners (the older one) he was very abrupt in speech and did not seem at all sympathetic to our situation. For him it was business as usual I suppose. When we told him we may need a specialized casket b/c my brother happened to be obese, the older owner said, "Oh yeah, I heard we had a big boy in. How much did he weigh? Whew!!!" "That's a big dude!" My mother and I gasp at his boldness. By that time my nephew had walked in to ask a question and heard what the owner said. My nephew said, "How rude!" and walked back out. A phone call was made to the funeral home that held my brother to find out what size casket would be needed to accommodate the bigger size. Again this owner was very uncaring in his demeanor and non nonchalant as to whether he would be able to help or not. About that time some more customers came in and he turned his attention away from us and went to go help the incoming customers. The younger co-owner took over from there. I voiced my concerns about the behavior of the older owner. There were apologies on his behalf, however we did not feel the need to purchase any items from the casket store. We left the store feeling bruised and insulted. I don't plan to step foot in store again.
