He's usually sensitive about the hair on the back of his neck because it tickles, but Eman is so thoughtful about blowing it away throughout the haircut that he no longer minds the experience at all. Ok. This was a terrific experience, for sure. It is like an old school barber shop, but is immaculately clean, professional, and geared towards men's hair needs...such as mine, where I used to have a head full but am now almost bald on top, but with plenty on my face. It was very enjoyable as well as free beer to drink while you wait your turn. While you may have to watch to assure there is absolutely the correct attention to things in general, the more experienced of the staff provide almost unequaled service. Long overdue review. After about a year of haircuts here, I have to do a shout out. I have found it more than challenging to get a good haircut as a female with short hair. Tried multiple salons and short hair did not appear as any of their talent base. I was hesitant as People's looked like it may be more male clientele and wasn't sure how they would receive a female cut. I was greeted from my first cut and ever since with a warm welcome and smile. Angelo is my guy. Ive been back multiple times and he gets right each time. They can get very bust but they focus on the person in the chair and provide a chill experience. read more

This is my first review I've ever written because I am so frustrated at the service at Peoples Barber San Mateo. Literally 3 out of my 4 last haircuts have either been cancelled 20 minutes before because someone is running late or I've been asked to change my appointment because someone is showing up late. Today I had an appointment at 9am that I booked a week ago. I have a very important baby shower to attend and I just got a phone call stating that the barber would not be able to cut my hair at that time anymore and they are fully booked until next week. I will never be returning to this business again and do not recommend this location to anyone. read more

I already got a haircut from Peoples Barber & Shop and got good service and a cool haircut, so yesterday I decided to go there for a haircut and was very happy when a free barber Stasy was found for me. Stacy was very polite and had an interesting conversation, but it seemed to me a strange style of haircut, not typical, sloppy. But I trust people, I continued to cut my hair, I got a standard haircut short in a circle and 1.5 inch on top, but the hairline above my forehead is not straight and everyone who cut me before tried to remove the hair to even it out, Stacy did it too, but she shot her hair half an inch deeper.... I thought she sees my hair like that because she's a professional. The haircut wasn't great, but I didn't say anything and paid $50 for it and tipped it in cash. Leaving the barber shop, I went to a nearby coffee shop as an example to better examine myself in the mirror, it was terrible. The haircut was terrible!!!! The head looked extremely sloppy, like I cut my own hair, but the worst thing is my bangs and the shaved place above my forehead..... I went back and asked Stasy to cut my hair very short because I looked terrible and felt crushed, creepy when amateurs provide services to you .... Omg what an experience it was. I was greeted at the door and was also given a beverage so random but also so freakin cool. I was matched with Jonathan The Barber and after telling him my story and what I wanted he made magic happen. He met my expectations and I definitely will be a regular. I frequented the People's location in Oakland prior to moving to the Peninsula so I was stoked to hear People's was opening a location in San Mateo. I never had a bad cut at the Oakland location and loved going there so wanted to give this place a try. Happily, I can say this place lives up to the name! My barber was Shy and she really took the time to make my hair from its mangled mop into something tight and fashionable. I'm very wary of trying new barbers in general, but I felt comfortable in Shy's care and I wasn't disappointed. I'm going to regret giving this positive review because our ability to re-schedule with him will likely become much more difficult. We both had an amazing time! Tino was kind and listened to my son's requests (he's 10) and I got a classic cut with shampoo, hot towel (with eucalyptus!) and he finished up with cleaning up my beard, ears, mustache, etc.. Perfect cut just the way it should be. If you're looking for the classic experience at a reasonable price, this place is for you.
