Wow, how I wish I found Gloria and All Star Barber sooner! Lovely, clean shop, with a cool sports theme and easy parking in front. A huge plus is the "Walk-in welcome", which is really convenient for my crazy schedule. As I was getting shampoo'd (amazing by the way) I was staring up at the Michael Jordan free-throw line dunk poster on the wall which I had in my room as a youth... and it brought back lots of fond memories and smiles. As far as the cut, Gloria did exactly what I asked for and her barbering technique is on-point. I'm pretty particular about my haircuts and she had no problem navigating my thick Asian hair. We had a really nice chat the whole time and you could just tell she was a nice person. Super reasonable prices for wash-cut-wash-gel and paying by Venmo was great. Tried a bunch of barbers nearby but keep coming back here. Good cuts and reasonable prices. ($35 for men's cut.) Old school barber (she has a license from before when licensing changed) but she knows all the cool fades and new styles. She asked if I wanted to try a hard part and it looked really neat. Consistently good barber shop in San Mateo. You know how you get a haircut somewhere and one of the barbers does a great job but you come again and they're off and you're trying someone new? Only to have your hair messed up? Not here. Gloria runs the show here and she has consistently delivered good cuts. My boyfriend comes here to cut his hair and we often see regulars all the time. I gotta say, Gloria is such a sweetheart with loads of experience. If you come here, be prepared to have a good time. It's not like other salons or shops I've been to where it's small talk or straight silence but you'll get everything from the news, her childhood, recent encounters with her clients and more. It's great lol Best of all, Gloria has been a barber for over 30 years starting at the airport when they used to have barbershops at the airport. I've been going here ever since I decided to drop my SF hair dresser. I'm pretty change averse regarding who cuts my hair so I was really happy to find this gem in the area. I originally was going to go to a different barber shop and I stumbled into this one by accident. What a nice accident! I can't wait for them to reopen, as it's already been four months since my last cut. My only complain would be to not be able to pay by Credit card at the moment, since it's usually very unlikely for me to have cash on me.
