by far the worst butcher shop to take a deer in for processing. I took 2 deer in and somehow only got 8 pounds of hamburger back. Every steak is horribly cut and the back are full of fat and tallow. Updated review: Received a call the other day saying my deer was ready. 6 months after I dropped it off. Wow. Lady said that they had problems getting spices due to Covid-19, hmmm, I doubt that. Also, I paid $50 when I dropped the deer off, $120 (or so) when I picked up the back straps and loin. Lady informed me that I owed an additional $120 on pickup. All transactions are in cash and I can't find the receipts, disintegrated with age I assume. Back straps required additional trimming but were otherwise fine. Loins are still wrapped up. I explained to them that I'm not going to pay over $300 for a deer to get processed and they can keep it. I really wanted to like this place due to their location, I enjoy supporting local. Unfortunately this is a hard pass. Save your money and frustration, take your harvest elsewhere. read more

Just picked up a split quarter. Family grass fed animal contracted to Peoples for processing. Final weight ratio to hanging weight was spot on. Confirmed package weight, also accurate. What I'm always disappointed with is steak yield with a split Q. No transparency to the other half, quarters, to compare with. No itemized list with my order either. Can't see how many steaks the other guy got...Couldn't tell how many or what I had till I got home and sorted. Did pick up some other items, beef sticks, Hungarians, German Brats. Can't wait to taste them. Too too cold to be grilling. read more

I WILL NEVER USE THIS BUTCHER AGAIN!! We took two steers in October 2022 to be butchered, one was a fair steer also which had documented weights. He weighed 1217 lbs. and the other one had a weight of 1131 lbs. We received 336 lbs. of actual take home on the 1217 lbs. steer and 324 lbs. on the 1131 lb. steer. These were Charolais/simminental beef steers. Service was very unprofessional I waited almost an hour for my animals to be unloaded while they washed their RV in front of the unloading pen. They explained steers yield on average 35% of live weight, I received 28%. So, to say I am disappointed is an understatement. We used this place for the reason that our usual place burnt and was not excepting animal while the rebuild was happening....I guess a mistake on my part in trusting. We have raised dozens of steers and a lot of pigs over the years and have never experienced anything close to this. Good luck to anyone looking to use PEOPLE'S MEAT MARKET in Steven Point. People's Meat Market is the least pretentious and most approachable meat marketing in Stevens Point. They have a great selection of fresh and frozen meats, as well as some great seasonal, deli, and local items (Tak Yee Egg Rolls, Portosi Cheese Fries, potatoes, etc.) This has become my go-to location for Lamb, Pork, Hot Dogs (Footlong in natural casing), and Brats (a wide selection of gourmet flavors). My favorite pick is their ground pork, which I use to make my own breakfast sausage. The people who work here are friendly and helpful. If you've visit Ski's and been discouraged by low service and high prices, you'll love this place. And, it's just a little bit further down the road. You won't be waiting in line for service here. My go to place for beef tendon to put in my pho noodle soup. I paid about $3 for 4-5 tendons. They also have locally packaged egg rolls, different flavors of sausage, ground meat, smoked links, Portesi pizza, pickled eggs, chips, soda and so forth. It smelled like foul meat but it's only because the butchering area is right behind the display counter. There are also items left out you may purchase for your four-legged best friend. This is such a better establishment than Ski's Meat Market. So much more approachable. If you don't see something out on display, just ask the staff. They are awesome. Love coming here to get meat bundles the meat is great not a lot of fat on it and the bacon is amazing! It doesn't have a lot of fat on it and not greasy at all just perfect. It's about a 20 min drive for me but well worth it. read more

If I could give them zero stars, I would. We got shorted one- hundred pounds of the animal we took there to be butchered. Called first and got a run- around answer. Stopped in to try to settle the matter reasonably, and they changed their story several times when each excuse was shown to be untrue. Blatant liars. Needless to say I wasted $250.00 on venison being processed into hot stick or should I say no taste, mush sticks. I had my deer from 2014 rifle season processed into hot stick minus backstraps and tenderloins. After picking them excited to get home and tear into them I was extreamly disappointed to fined they are like mush and raw with absolutely not even a hint of spice to them. The casings are still clear and when held bend right over like a raw piece of meat! After having two seperate professional opinions with both ending with the product being spit out I decided to call in hopes of a resolution, I was informed I would recieve a call back the next day... waiting....waitng... called again with a run around, waited....waited... called again, nothing so I waited... called again, finally was told to bring them back so they could smoke them longer. NO THANK YOU! I'LL TAKE MY VENISON YOU TRASHED ELSWHERE! read more

My husband has taken his deer to a couple different places for processing. This one is a local business so he gave it a try. We were extremely disappointed with the steak cuts! They left the bone in on and the meat looks more mangled than a fine cut. My husband was NOT happy to say the least. His comment "are they a meat company or a logging company because it looks like they only use a chainsaw to cut their meat." Unfortunately we will be going elsewhere from now on. read more

Go elsewhere with your hard earned WI deer - they do a good job with the backstraps if you order them whole - their steaks & chops are cut poorly & leave a lot to be desired. They are quick with turn around on such cuts & reasonably priced. Venison sausage & venison sticks have good flavor but are packaged poorly - 1/2 of the packs have broken vacuum seals so they are pron to freezer burn - I shouldn't have to bring my processed orders home from the butcher & re-vacuum seal them - these orders take an extended period of time (3-4 months). An average sized 2.5 year old WI whitetail buck yielded 6 steaks, 4 chops, 2 whole backstraps, 10 - 1 lbs venison sticks packs & 10 - 1 lbs venison sausage packs. For folks in Central WI take the extra time & distance to drive to Geiss Meat Service or to Stone Ridge Venison Processing. read more

Hunters beware!!! Do not bring your deer here to be processed. I brought in a 8 point buck and got back a small box of 10 packages and some ground. This was ordering nothing special just processing the deer. My husband brought in an 8 pointer a little bigger to another meat market asked for 3/4 of it made into hot dogs. Well he got the 1/4 back and it was double what I got out of the whole deer. read more
