Peoples is an institution from what I understand in Detroit and has a good mix of all the major music genres along with a section of dance and electronic based music. I would say it's about 95% used from what I saw and the largest selection of 45s that I've ever seen. There were two turntables available to checkout records already open/unsealed which was nice. You could easily spend a few hours here as I did. I walked away with an Amp Fiddler and Will Sessions album that I had been looking for so all the digging and listening worked out in my favor. Prices here are very reasonable and the store personnel are super nice. There are some. I've murals on the buildings just across the street so be sure to check them out. Glad I got the opportunity to stop by on this trip to "The D".

After experiencing my first record store two weeks ago, I was excited to visit People's Records, in Detroit. I also realized how insane it is to find the 5th Dimensions of vinyl. However, I am thankful People's Records had one in their new arrivals collection -- for $2. Wow! They also suggested another artist group but, I my heart is sold out on The 5th Dimensions. The guys who works here know their records and is quick to help you find what you are looking for. I must say it seems as if they have their store organized as much as possible and MASKS ARE REQUIRED. LOL!

One of the best record stores on the planet!!! Well organized, decently priced, knowledgeable staff, incredible selection. Go next door for coffee and incredible pastries and maybe even a performance! One of my favorites in the country...

    Tons of 7" records

People's knows their stuff. A good spot for collecting soul and funk. Jazz selection is good and prices are good. I was happy to find some reggae other than the usual selections. I'd like to visit more often.

loved the paper bag the records were packaged in

I'll just start by saying that I only had time for one record store stop when I was in Detroit, and I couldn't be happier that I chose Peoples Records for that stop. The basics: * Ample street parking, although it is metered * Mask policy is actively enforced * Employees are knowledgeable and helpful, but don't linger over your shoulder unless you ask for assistance (love this) * Huge selection of Motown records, this is to be expected in Detroit but if you're looking for them in particular as I was, this store is a great place to go * Very chill vibe, the employees were spinning some great vinyls while I was there * Did I mention a very good selection? I would have come home with way more than 5 if I wasn't out of room in my suitcase for the next day. Bonus? Very cute paper bags, which I definitely plan to keep

cleo listening to something - likely old school jazz

my teenager and i decided to buy some real vinyl, and we like this area so we checked them out. they had most of our favorites artists (and even a book by Aunt Alice, who's also a grammy winner!). i just wish they weren't so far away from where we live!

Great place for crate digging. I have to return so I can get down on the floor to explore the dollar bins !

Very knowledgeable staff that offer fair prices on used vinyl. You can easily spend a couple of hours here. I came across a few gems to add to the collection.

Legit. Staff is informative, helpful & friendly. The vast array of merchandise is organized in a fun & creative manner. They have sweet record players with speakers set up and ready to purchase out the door! Two thumbs up.

The store is arranged for easy perusal. I found all my favs jazz, soul, vocal female, vocal male and many more. I didn't have much time but I could have looked for hours. I will have to stop back. There were albums for every part of my want lists. Fairly priced with a few bargains. I didn't have time to look through the $2, $5 bins but there were plenty. A great collection of albums for sure.

But cheap doesn't always necessarily mean good - I could always shop for "cheap" at the Walmart bargain bin. What the RG brings to the table is quality records for a price that can't be beat. I was having a conversation about the graveyard with a friend of mine who's really into Jazz; he only has a few places he likes, basically because so few places carry quality Jazz these days. You know how picky those old fans can get. He took me here first. I'm not a Jazz hipster like him, but I do like records - and oh, they have a ton. I snagged quite a bit for very little - some records were as Misi said, literally $1. Even the new releases were inexpensive. I'm accustomed to paying over $20 per record sometimes for that "audiophile grade vinyl" junk. That doesn't seem to happen here unless its rare. So it didn't break the bank. It seems like they have a good rotation of stock going. I can see myself easily coming back at least once a week and not looking at the same old junk over and over again. It's like the thrift shop of records!

Found Sound has that wonderful mix of just about everything, and their prices are actually more than reasonable. The difference here however is the crew. So many places have staff that vacillate between casual indifference to active dislike. Found Sound has a team that genuinely cares about your experience, and are actually happy to talk to you. I recently was perusing their soundtrack selection and found a copy I of an album I wanted. I noticed what I thought were scratches on one side, and asked the team member about it. He immediately confirmed they were light scratches and marked the price down accordingly. I can't imagine every place would be honest in this way. About the only negative of shopping here are the narrow pathways, but honestly it just means they've got more stuff for you to look at when you're there. I'm so glad I stopped in, you can bet I'll be back!
