The owner and staff are very friendly and helpful and clearly know what they are talking about. I appreciate the local music sections among their selections. I bought a stereo receiver here for my turntable setup that the owner fixed up and it works great! exactly what I needed and for a very good price. They don't seem to buy as many used records as other stores in metro detroit, so the digging doesn't get too deep, but there are some gems in the stacks because they're buying higher quality stuff. read more

Nestled away in a strip mall on the east side of Greenfield road, Street Corner Music sits hidden like a needle in a haystack. Though I have always known of this stores existence, I have neglected to visit due to the fact it just never looked any good to me. While performing at the Detroit Jazz Festival, I happened upon a both selling jazz records, I looked at the sign and to my surprise the booth was put together by Street Corner Music...now my curiosity in the store was peaked. I happened to by on Woodward one day and decided to make the trek over to Greenfield to visit. I pulled into the parking lot and parked right next to the store front. I happened to notice a Sun Ra poster in the window of the bookstore right next to Street Corner Music; it was at this moment, I knew I was in for a treat. I walked directly to the back of the store (right back corner) to the jazz section and began my quest. I found many quality titles on Impulse!, Flying Dutchman, ECM, Arista/Freedom...I was having to recheck every row I went through just to make sure I did not miss anything. The thing that most blew my mind was the prices, I did not come across a single record that I felt was overpriced or marked-up. Definitely a huge fan of this store now. I visit this store every Thursday after work to see what gems I can find. read more

If you love records as much as I do and a good deal is what you're looking for than Beverly Hills' Street Corner is your place. Located on 13 Mile Road in the same shopping center as T.J. Maxx and Border's, I promise on your debut shopping excursion to Street Corner you will fall in love. This independent music store has not only got a fantastic selection of harder to find Cd's,especially soul and R&B, but has the raddest selection of used vinyl. I mean, I got the" Do The Bartman" record for a mere buck! The stock selection of used vinyl is always changing, so if you stop in on a regular basis you'll always find something new and often rare. In addition, to the fantastic selection of dollar bin albums and used stuff, they have some new records. I purchased a Regina Spektor and Shins album brand new for a sensible price. Also, the staff at Street Corner are helpful and beyond knowledgeable. I was searching for a soul album and before finishing my sentence the sales clerk had it in my hand. Pretty awesome! I love this place, I stop in every week. I find great deals in the newly arrived used section all the time, that could have easily been priced for so much more. It seems like they price stuff to move quickly and keep you coming back for more, instead of looking to Discogs and pricing slightly less than highest amount like a lot of records stores tend to do. It's not the biggest, but it's the best. The way I would describe the selection at Street Corner is a "juried variety" of inventory. There's not a lot of fat here - no piles of Herb Alpert that nobody wants. They somehow manage to have something from most genres despite the limited square footage. The new vinyl selection is good, especially in the R&B and jazz area, and the new prices are good. Hell, all the prices are good. I find title going for $4 here that other stores are charging $6-8 for in similar condition. For those that haven't embraced the resurgence of vinyl, Street Corner still offers a good selection of CDs as well. Mike and the rest of the crew are friendly and helpful. They also have a frequent buyer card that they will stamp, and you get store credit when it's full. Boo-ya! read more

The atmosphere of this store has so much attitude, you can't help but to love it. Music lovers live here. I have spent many an afternoon sifting through the nice selection of music and getting comfortable listening to the hand picked cd's playing in the background. This is my current favorite in Detroit-area record shops. It isn't huge but it's big enough, and they aren't messing around with what they stock. Very high quality used records at very sensible prices. They also sell CDs and are willing to trade for good stuff. Thus, in my shift back to vinyl, I find this to be a sort of heaven. Very solid dollar bins but also lots of good "standard" bins that tend to be priced at $1.99 with plenty of exceptions (for rarer/more-pristine stuff). Right next to Book & Beat, which is a very cool indie bookshop. read more

I've been to this place 4 times & at the moment, this record store is my new favorite. They have a medium-sized collection of vinyl but the selections are very diverse, so you'll easily walk out the store with a few records in your hand. And they sell newer records. What I love about StreetCorner Music... 1) The prices!! The used vinyl prices are beyond reasonable. 2) The staff is super friendly 3) They sell plastic inner sleeves! 4) I don't feel poor as shit walking in there with $5 because I know that I can walk out with at least 2 albums 5) Close to my house :) In my opinion, for a record store this size, this really is as good as it gets. They sell used vinyl, SOME new vinyl, and box sets. It's totally worth me checking them out twice a month, and maybe more if I've got extra cash on me. read more

Amazing selection, Incredible staff, Always-evolving Inventory and Best Prices in the Area. One of the few remaining iconic Detroit stores. This is the spot where Shoes and Dilla connected, so the legacy runs deep and the selection follows suit. This is where the legendary Detroit DJ's shop. Don't be surprised to run into 313 heavy hitters when you are crate digging here. Unlike most record stores in the area, the staff is unintrusive, but incredibly helpful. Aaron and company won't be buried on their phones ignoring you; instead you will get the records you came to purchase along with recommendations that are totally geared towards your tastes. Besides the helpful staff and incredible selection, Street Corner's used prices are without a doubt the best in the area. This shop doesn't need to cough up exorbitant Royal Oak rents and the savings are definitely passed on to the consumer directly. Highly recommended. read more

oooooh the dollar bin. That's all I got to say. I've got frequent flyer miles at Street Corner - I usually drop about $50 each visit, and that's mostly on dollar bin stuff. If you need popular classic R&B, soul, or rock, they have a very good selection of records in good condition for hella cheap. I don't have much luck buying dance music here, but I do find hip-hop joints and classics that I need on a regular basis. They do have a good selection of CDs and listening stations if you want to hear CDs. Definitely worth dropping in to. read more

Maybe things were picked over, since I was here the week before Christmas. The people working there seemed much nicer than I'd generally expect from a music store, and there was definitely a rapport going with some of the customers there. Space is fairly limited, but manageable with the 10 other people who were around. The selection of CD's seemed to be deeper than vinyl, but I can't say I was overly impressed with their prices on that side of the store. As far as the vinyl selection goes, I thought it was limited, and not terribly deep. Jazz had a disappointing lack of anything on Blue Note, and seemed mostly rounded out with "smooth jazz" from the 80's. To be honest, I didn't think the Soul section was much better. Lots of obscure artists, but not in a "this is really hard to find" way. I scored a Weather Report album that I didn't already have, and it was dirt cheap, so that was great. The Rock section is largely pop / rock from the late 70's through late 80's. Again, not tons of albums to choose from, but I did really appreciate the pricing. It seemed to me that most of it was under $3. (Thank you, thank you, thank you for not joining the "If there's a song that MTV played, it must be worth at least $7.99" pricing model that so many stores have adopted.) One standout though was their House / Techno section. Lots of treasures there. There was a fair amount of new stuff, and prices comparable with what you'd see on Amazon or Turntable Lab, which makes this a nice local option. It isn't the sort of place I'd make a special trip to visit. As far as selection goes, places like Dearborn Music, Flipside Records, and Stormy Records all have much more to choose from. But none of them have such reasonable pricing. If you're nearby, it's definitely worth spending an hour or so. read more

Nothing special, just wasn't the record store for me. The rock section was small and my taste is mainly rock. However, the store just didn't have a nice welcoming feel. Prices were ok but nothing to bring me back for. I would suggest Dearborn music for a bigger selection of everything, Stormy records for the nice personable feel, Solo records for cheap used or underground sound for hard to find rock. read more

I love this place, I admittedly don't make it as often as I want to, but when I do I never leave empty handed. The newer location is smaller than the Southfield store, but I don't think the quality has been compromised. This place has a great used selection, and while I'm not a huge Jazz guy, they seem to have a huge Jazz selection. read more

A good store worth checking out, primarily if you're hunting for used Jazz and R&B vinyl. Prices seem like they're on the low side of average for used LPs, though you may be able to snag some great bargains in the $1 bin depending on your luck and tastes. The new vinyl selection is somewhat skimpy, but there are some still-sealed cutouts of 70s soul and jazz records at very fair prices, as well as average priced rock reissues and some newer music as well. If you still buy a lot of CDs (I do), their used bin is worth a shot, though if they want to move more used CDs in the jazz section I'd advise them to lower their prices. You can't sell an in-print CD reissue used for $8-9 when Amazon sells the same title for $10-11 new. If you're looking for rare stuff, audiophile LP reissues, or anything that's not R&B or jazz, this isn't the store for you. My experience here has been generally good so I will continue to stop in from time to time to buy vinyl and CDs. UPDATE: After coming back here several times, I've found a lot of great records and Street Corner is pretty much my favorite music store in Metro Detroit. Selection varies a bit from week to week, but if you catch them at the right time, there are many fair and even great deals to be had. Most other stores in the Metro area seem to stick to the typical classic rock stuff to fill out their used vinyl sections, but not Street Corner. They also price stuff to move stock, not to gouge music fans, or create a pretentious, quasi-museum atmosphere. A used jazz LP at Street Corner that sells for $6-15 would likely be priced at least $5-10 higher at some others stores. The prices here have led me to take a chance on a lot of soul and jazz records I'd not heard previously, especially where the album is an under-appreciated classic or somewhat obscure. I can't really say that about any other store in Metro Detroit. One more thing: for anyone just getting into vinyl, keep an eye on their used stereo equipment section. Although I've not bought any electronics from this store yet, I've seen very decent starter turntables and other things for sale here at very fair prices compared to other shops in the area. Selection varies a lot, just like everything else in the store, so stop in often if you want to catch a deal. From what I understand, the owner is a trained electronics repair technician and everything is gone over by him before putting the items out for sale. read more

This used to be my favorite record store since Sam's Jam's died (check your memory and driver's license for age hazard) I've gone out my way for years to come to this place and spend copius amounts of money to contribute to my collection. I have spent hundreds of dollars (maybe even thousands in my history of collecting since the 80's) at this store. I am a little disappointed in how it has had to scale down but am extremely glad that they are still in existence and still go out of my way whenever I'm in the city to parouse the aisles. I must say the staff are only legends in their own mind and would help the store out if they would use the phrase " If you like this...then you'll love this" as opposed to indicating that something is garbage or not, because one man's trash is another's treasure. read more
