I went to this pep boys because my van was blowing cold air. Told them it was blowing cold air and that I thought it needed a thermostat. Dropped it off, came back when they called to say it was ready(bout 3 hrs later). Paid my bill, walked out to my van, let it run 10/15 min, no hot air!! Walk back in, they take it back over to the garage, hour later they tell me the van is leaking antifreeze everywhere and that im going to need a new water pump AND a thermostat!! They tell me it happened because of the radiator cap THAT THEY REPLACED and it not their fault!! Refund me my money and send me on my way. Take it to Firestone, $1800!! On our way from vacation in Florida to home in Ohio, the battery light came on in our Kia Sorento. Suspecting we needed an alternator we did an emergency stop in Rock Hill, found a place to stay for the night, and received a recommendation to take it here from a local the next day. They had no appts available, but told us to bring it in and they would work it in-- same thing we heard from other shops in the area. We strolled in with two toddlers expecting to be there most of the day. They worked us in IMMEDIATELY, provided us what discounts they could, and treated us incredibly well. If I could give it a 0 I would. My boyfriend went there to get new tires and an alignment and he did NOT want a tow and go. They did a tow and go and charged him for it and then charged him for other things he didn't ask for and they didn't even do said things that they charged him extra for. They also severely messed up his alignment because his car can't stay straight and it's wanting to go left and right all over the place, which is highly dangerous and could get him killed. Absolutely do not recommend. They overcharge and try to slip in extra charges it's ridiculous. Unfortunately my wife had a nail in her tire. Being the fantastic husband that I am, I decided to get this fixed on my day off. I called the day before to see if they would be open on Memorial Day (thank you to all who have and are currently serving). I arrived at 7:50 AM and was told it would be no more than 30 minutes. Well, I guess I should have checked YELP before coming here. I was in the area so made a stop here on a whim. When I went in to get a tire alignment and tire rotation, I asked how long the wait was. The service guy gave pause (which should have clued me in) then said a guy was available right then. I waited 15 min. staring at my car in the parking lot that had not moved. I went up to the counter at that point and asked for my car back. He was going to give me my keys back but said they just finished a car and were ready to pull in my car right then. Silly me, I believed them. Cue 35 minutes later my car was done. I paid, went out to my car, and noticed they did not do the tire rotation. If it weren't for my tires being so out of alignment that the outside tread was worn on the front tires only, I would have never known and would have gone on my merry way thinking it had been done. Went in for a repair and an alignment. They did not have parts in hand so I decided to set an appointment for 3 days later. Mean time I had to change my tire and noticed that all my lugs are seized. After breaking 3 separate sockets and adding penetrating spray I still couldn't get it loose. I called and asked them to loosen them do to it being their fault. Huge store where they had the hard-to-find battery filler. And I also bought windshield wipers in December, but I just could not figure out how to put them on the car. Neighbors also failed, so I took them back to exchange. When I told the cashier my problem another worker came over and said he would try. OK. So we went outside to the car and stood in the wind for about 30 minutes while he tried and tried and finally discovered which of the adapters worked, but then could not get the mate off of the new wiper to accept it. He went inside twice to get help and finally figured it all out and we got them replaced. Was I happy. The guy is Kalid, very nice, very professional and he did it all for nothing. We took our vehicle here to be serviced for new brakes! I am now having to take it to another place to be serviced because they squeak so bad it wakes up the entire neighborhood when I go to work! We brought it back and they told me it was a whole other issue with the motor mount! Wtf? They said they put their best guy on it! Wow! When you apply pressure on the breaks when backing then they told me it would be an additional $700 for the motor mount after spending $600 on the brakes! Buyer beware when using the pep boys on cherry road! I could write so much more on this review but frankly don't have the energy! I'll be spending that on finding somebody to fix my automobile properly! No response to this review! We took it to get a second option from a different auto shop and they said that pep boys did a terrible job! They took pictures to show us where the work was shorty and incomplete! There was old rusty parts to the brakes that should have been removed! They also said that the other sound I was complaining about wasn't the engine mount but the parking break malfunctioning! They couldn't say definitively that was damaged by pro boys but it sure is strange I never heard the sound until after my brake job! I will be attaching photos soon where it shows the shotty work! Oh btw the second option auto didn't say anything was wrong with my engine mount! I will be submitting a complaint to pep boys corporate headquarters! This Sunday I went to pep boys to get my TPMS sensor replaced put in. After an TWO hour wait . The manager told me she couldn't put in a aftermarket TPMS sensor on . I could buy one from her and she would be willing to put it on . AC Delco TPMS sensor aren't after market parts. That who ever the employee was that told me this told me wrong. Well the manager was the one that took care of me last time . After spending more than 2500.00 on 4 tires plus warranty on them . I won't be back. My radiator went out on my car Friday, so I got it towed here. It was actually supposed to go to the place next door, which has better reviews, but the driver took it here. The staff helpfully agreed to run diagnostics on my car anyways. On Saturday, they called and told me my radiator + 2 hoses needed to be replaced. The grand total? $1,462. I don't have that kind of money, so I called back and told them I'd have to figure it out on Monday. The manager told me they'd "see what they could do" and dropped the price to $1,300. Still, I said I needed to figure it out on Monday. He proceeded to drop it to $1,100. At this point, I'm seeing red flags. Called around on Monday and found a local place that charged me $375 TOTAL for the whole repair. Towed it there and my car was finished by Wednesday. Very disappointed in the price gouging going on here. I was lucky enough to have people around me looking out for my best interest. Be wary of any estimate that Pep Boys gives you and do your homework. I've got the estimate & receipt to prove this. read more

I was meaning to do this a awhile back but never got around to it. If you're looking for a car repair place, then avoid this place like the plague. Up front service was good but their mechanics are awful. My first visit was for my car overheating. With it being a used car I expected problems. I knew from the beginning that my housing was leaking. So they fixed it. That didn't fix the issue so I took it back since the first time I received good service. The second time they recommended I change the water pump and housing. Now if anyone knows about cars then you will know that a new housing normally comes with both thermometers. They recently just replaced both thermostats but was trying to get me to change again with another item. Second round: I had them change my front brakes. Whatever they did made it worse. My older brakes were quieter then the crap they put on. When I went back to ask about it, they said the need to be broken in. A year later, they are screaming. I went someplace else and just like that the screaming stops. Last one: the one that broke the camals back. I went in for a complete fluid flush. There were supposed to empty everything but the transmission fluid. Not only did they empty the transmission fluid and fill it back up but then they allowed me to drive off and they didn't say a word. If it wasn't for my gut feeling to check my fluid when it started sticking, I would had to buy a whole new transmission. I will never ever, ever, ever take my cat there. EVER read more

As I drove into Pep-Boys yesterday, my car cut off right in their parking lot. My brake light had been on, so I stopped by to get them to check my battery. Turned out my alternator was bad as was my battery. The Service Manager was Tony Ford. I explained to him my whole situation of just moving to RH and starting a new job. I haven't even gotten my 1st pay check yet. He was very sympathetic and offered me a new battery. He installed a new battery and alternator for me for an EXCELLENT price!!!!!!! Dropped car off for oil change and fluid flush today. Quoted it would take 1.5 hrs, with only one person in line in front of us. It took 4.5 hours, stranded at the shop waiting!!! Turns out that machine to flush fluids broke... But no one bothered to let us know. Even as we checked in repeatedly as hours dragged on... No one was honest that machines to perform fluid flush were broken. They were stringing us along "30 more minutes" "15 minutes". We would have opted out of that service if we'd known it would take our whole day. Horrible service. Do not go here. read more

Went to get my tire patched and was informed my tpms monitor had been broken off. However I never heard the monitor bounce around while driving and it had no scratch marks on it. It just magically became broken when they took my tire off and mechanically removed the rim from the tire. Called the manager about the situation and he reluctantly purchased the part on their behalf and would put it on my tire. He then proceeded to rudely tell me how my mind was made up and wouldn't matter what he said it wouldn't change a thing. He concluded with a "don't ever visit us again". I was very shocked and offended of his words towards a customer. I never expected the manager to become so defensive towards an inquiring customer. Will NEVER come back and would strongly advise others to do their business elsewhere where you're respected. read more

Sadly the service here has really gotten low over the years. Went in for basic oil change at 5:50 PM and left at 7:25 PM even after being told it would be 30 minutes. After an hour of waiting (My vehicle still outside) I took a walk down the outside of the work bay area and saw not even one person in there at all. There were several on the backside (around the corner) taking a smoke break. At one point later a customer before me was getting his oil changed and when his car was brought up, the service desk person asked the mechanic if he had reset the "Maintenance light", the mechanic simply said he didn't know how, got inside his personal pickup and left. I was a fan of Pep Boys for a good number of years but now I will have to reconsider that loyalty and perhaps look else where. read more

Just bought 4 new tires and an oil change. I was the first car checked in. The clerk was rude and clueless on how to check-in a car. It took them just under 2 hours to complete the service. After check-out I came back in due the check engine light still being on. The same clerk asked "What do you want now?" I explained what I was seeing. "Fine. Just pull it around". I had to show the mechanic how to reset the light. His answer when I asked him about the tire pressure system was that I needed to go back to the dealership. They didn't know how to work on that. Going back to the dealership next time. At least they know what they are doing. read more

I chose Pep Boys for my new tires because they appeared to offer the best deal, and they were offering a free oil change with two tires. However, upon arriving there, they tried to tell me that a free oil change apparently costs extra. Go figure. Then, the service manager informed me that he couldn't do the work without replacing two lugs and nuts. Add another $70 for that. (by the way, it would have been nice if he had just checked to make sure that he couldn't simply screw new nuts on the existing lugs.) It looks like their policy is just to screw their customer out of as much money as possible. Well, there's a free space in line now if you're in the mood to get screwed over. Sounded great and worth the drive. Problem was the discount code kept just refreshing the page with no actual discount. I figured it was a glitch, so I printed off the shopping cart and took it in to the store figuring the manager would make it right. Nope. When I approached the counter I was told my car was the next in line. I was NOT told that the charge would be $110.66.
