We had a reservation and tried to check in at 2:00. The check in time is 3:00. Had they said "Your room is not ready yet" we would have had no problem, since the advertised check in time is indeed 3:00. But they said our room *was* ready, but if we wanted to check in early, it would cost an additional $25. Since we had a shuttle to the wedding arriving at 3:30, some of our family member and friends opted to pay the $25 fee. One friend arrived at 2:45 and they refused to let them in their room without paying. I opted to not pay (because of principle and I knew I could be ready in 30 minutes) and so I waited in the parking lot for 45 minutes. At 2:45 I walked into the lobby and stood in front of the desk waiting for the magic moment they would allow me to check into my over priced room without extorting more money from me. They finally checked me in at 2:50. The person who checked in at 2:45 and paid $25 was totally ripped off. SERIOUSLY?!?!? You are gouging your customers for absolutely no reason whatsoever. If the room is ready, why can't I check in?? The rooms were clean and comfortable, but the absolutely absurd check in policy will assure that I will never step foot in this rude, money grabbing establishment again. read more

If you are looking for a cheaper lodging option in Pepin, this motel is a good choice. It's actually a lot cuter and cleaner than I thought it would be but pretty basic amenities. The breakfast was pretty disappointing though as we are gluten free and there were little fresh offerings. read more

It appears that my review is the first since covid. We stayed here in a wedding block for one night in early June. I made the "reservation" via email in December because the motel is closed in the winter. I received my email contract after I provided a credit card, & all looked good. When we arrived at 2:35PM to check in (check-in is at 3PM) we were told it was an extra $25 fee to check in early (this IS in the contract, I missed it). I asked if the room was ready & they said yes. Am I going to sit in my car for 35 minutes, no, so I agreed to the $25. When I pulled out my credit card I was told there is a fee to use a credit card (this is NOT in the contract or listed anywhere else that I could find) & I had not brought a checkbook or enough cash to pay for the room, so again I agreed. They don't have keys but a security lock on the door so you get a code. Inside there is no way to confirm that the door is locked on the outside so we put a chair in front of the door as a kind of security. No deadbolt or inside locking mechanism. The room was clean, the towels are newer & bed was fine. The room did have a mini fridge, which we didn't use. The staff was nice enough but I wasn't going to give them any backtalk for fear of another fee. Check-out is at 10AM & housekeeping was already knocking on doors at 9:35AM. Nice basic facility. Nothing over the top, but all in all, just a fine place to stay. Beds were comfortable, room was mostly quiet, shower had good pressure, and price was right. Due to COVID the breakfast is a little downgraded, but it was a good "snack". Friendly staff. I'd stay here again. read more

It was walkable to the Villa Belleza, the nearby winery, where I attended a wedding with several others. A group of us stayed at Pepin Motel and we all had a great experience. My only suggestion would be to bring your own shampoo since the shampoo provided by management was mediocre. I think several of these reviews are outdated. Do not give your business to Pepin Motel. I blocked rooms 1 year before my wedding weekend and then booked them for certain members of the family and wedding party. We checked with them on the phone MULTIPLE times. We even checked in person. My sister, who booked 2 rooms for 2 nights checked multiple times. Wedding Weekend: DISASTER. Pepin Motel only had one room for me, the bride, my 2 sisters, and my 93 year old Dad. My fiancee's daughter happened to be in the lobby and gave up her room for us. We were told there were NO rooms for my sisters and my Dad the next night even though they had booked them way in advance and PAID for them. We kept getting different stories from the same clerk at the desk. My family was finally able to get the rooms on Saturday evening. It was extremely upsetting for what should have been a joyful weekend. We think the motel was double-booking and keeping the extra payments. We intend on checking into this and reporting this practice to whoever will listen. Plus, the rooms stunk, there was only 1 drinking glass in a room with 2 queen beds and only 2 towels. NOTHING else. Never gave the discount I was quoted, gave away my king bed as per reservation, beds are VERY hard, hair all over the bathroom floor, no hot water...ran it for 5 minutes (really) before it would warm up, breakfast "Spunkmeyer" muffin was green with mold!! Very rude, do NOT stay here!! Go to Durand or Wabasha ...worth the drive! This place used to be decent but now it has new manage/mismanagement and is a joke!!! read more

The one good thing I can say is that the room, while badly outdated, was clean and tidy and the beds were reasonably comfortable. The service was not so good. We stopped on here while bike touring through the area, and got a sour "you can't bring your bikes in the room" from the owner. Not "you can't bring your bikes in because I'm worried about damages." Not "you can't bring your bikes in, but you can stash them in a corner of the huge garage we have behind the building." Just a curt refusal. If the B&B is full, this might be your only option for lodging in Pepin - at least until the nearby winery builds the planned hotel. But if you can pass on by and stay in a different town instead, I'd recommend it. read more

I recently stayed at the Pepin Motel for a wedding at the nearby Villa Belleza winery. The room was very comfortable, spacious, and had excellent A/C which was great after a hot day. It's a short walk to the winery, so it's a fantastic place to stay if you have an event there or are just visiting Pepin. The staff was great, and I could not have had a better experience. read more

I came here to attend a friend's wedding. I was surprised the room did not have a mini fridge and asked the owner if I needed to pay extra for one. She was quite rude and informed me that no motel had a mini fridge these days. I tried to correct here but she insisted she was right. So I went to the Dollar Store down the street and purchased a throwaway styrofoam cooler to keep some drinks in for myself. When I came back and she saw it, she would then not allow me to use any ice from her ice machine to put into it. She continued to be very rude throughout my stay and when I checked out she passed me in the hall and told me to read the note at the front desk instead of coming to check me out. It read, " just leave your keys here". Unfortunately there was no place else to stay or I certainly would have. read more

BAIT & SWITCH !! We stayed at the motel last weekend. At check in, we were charged almost $30 per night more than I was quoted when I made the reservation. Desk Clerk, Richard was very argumentative about honoring the price I was quoted. Another couple walked out deciding not to stay here as they overhear Richard's interaction with us. When we checked out last Sunday, we were assured by Richard that he spoke to the manager and we would be refunded the overcharge. A week later and still NO REFUND on my charge card. read more

I really thought this would be a nice place, the place just reeks of Apple Cinnamon plug in's and when we slept at night you could taste it in your throat and mouth during the night, I was looking for one in my room even, and none to found it was leaking in the air ducts somehow into our room, they are everywhere in that halls, also the Carpet in the rooms was just stained..no coffee in Room, no microwave, no Small Fridge, coffee in the common's room was watered down even..Lady looked like she was ready to do battle;e with you when you walked in at first, "May I help you" in kind of rude tone..I have it a chance even though the other reviews were just bad, and I guess they were right! even my wife said when she went outside to put stuff in car, our room just stunk..Old TV in room even..oh and the Blinds were broke also..lady ignore's you also, she apparently owns this place and even has a sign in your room that says try not to contact after 10pm because they live there and work there also..We are not staying here again...no pen and paper even, geez I could go on and on I bet..lol whoever said this was an ok place in the review must be fake or don't know better...Room #3 was our's, no card's on local businesses to go to for food or events...One good thing they did have a Gideon Bible!! lol just joking...Oh we forgot all of our toiletries, I was afraid to ask for some... read more

Price for rooms is reasonable. However, the carpet in the rooms I have stayed in have very dirty/stained carpet that needs replaced. I began staying here many years ago on my annual fishing trip to Lake Pepin. I have not seen any improvements to the this place in the 15 years I have been staying here other than they put a new roof on. If they would replace the carpet throughout the motel, this place would be a much better place to stay. read more

I can't rate the accommodations as I never got to stay there. Managed is horrible and I would warn anyone that has to deal with them. Even though there were a lot of negative reviews, I booked 20 rooms for my daughter's wedding, which was at a venue 15 minutes from the hotel. This was done in March 2017. Judy gave me a block of 20 rooms, I asked for a contract and was informed they don't do contracts. OK - I figured their word was good. Again, as there have been so many negative comments, I went to the hotel in April to see the rooms to make sure they would be OK for our guests. Got there and was told we don't have a block and the hotel was already booked for that weekend. I was given a long story from Richard about a family intervention that was done with Judy because she was causing so many problems, all of which I could care less about. I just wanted and needed my 20 rooms. I pulled out all of the information that Judy gave me but was told we didn't have any rooms. Dealt with Diana, office manager at the time, and then Mel Schoeder the owner. At first, Mel seems genuinely sorry. She promised that she would take care of us, find us rooms at other hotels, negotiate a price with those hotels so it was the same as what we were given at her hotel, and even pay for a shuttle for our guests to get to the venue because of their error and the inconvenience. She said she was all about customer service and would make this right. Everything was going fine until 6 weeks before the wedding and Mel stopped communicating with us. The bride, the groom and I texted and called continuously trying to get information from her as to whether or not she found us any other rooms and get confirmation on the shuttle. She wouldn't respond to anything. We did find our own accommodations 1 hour from the venue so we were holding out hope she was able to find us something closer. We ended up having to arrange and pay for our own shuttle which was just under $1000 that we didn't budget for. Mel Schoeder was anything but professional, knows nothing about customer service. I still find it hard to believe that the owner of a business would do this. She promised us a lot and delivered nothing!! I texted her 2 weeks before the wedding giving her one last chance to make good on her promise - again nothing. If you do find that you have to stay at the Pepin Motel, be very careful. From personal experience and other reviews I have read, they will screw you any chance they can. read more
