Relaxing on the front porch... upside down, apparently

What a charming, cozy, and spacious beauty of a craftsman gem thus place is! The drive was just gorgeous getting here, and the scenery around the area is just what we were looking for. Brenda and Ford are the warmest, most welcoming, prettiest hosts one could hope to stay with. The food was excellent, conversation was touching and memorable, and the rooms are very comfy and inviting. We felt right at home, and can't wait to adventure on the river! ProTip: If you happen to enjoy the crafty beery thing all the kids are talking about...this is your Xanadu refuge, your Shangri-La pilgrimage. I like to think of it as a little happy hour taproom at Buddha's brew house.

The cocktail we came up with!

My girlfriend had booked this place for a wedding we were attending and boy was I blown away at how amazingly awesome Brenda and Ford and Turning Waters B&B & Adventures is. As soon as you walk in the door, it's almost as if you are in a home away from home - has that cozy feeling with the old school decor, wooden floors, and comfy couches awaiting to be sunken in to. You can't go wrong with staying in any of the rooms that Brenda and Ford provide, all of them are spacious, very clean, and of course comfortable. The breakfast spread that they provided was amazing as well. From the local fresh fruit and Greek yogurt to the thick cut bacon and mango cream cheese french toast. Wow. Just wow. A lot of TLC going on in this place and it makes you not want to leave at the 11am checkout. We even created a drink together before the wedding festivities and they named it after me!! I mean come on, if that's not the coolest than I have no idea what is. We came up with THE DUSTY EAGLE BLACK COFFEE COCKTAIL. If you need a little pep in your step with a little buzz on the side, this drink is for you! Thanks Brenda, Ford, and Kelly Ann for the amazing short stay we had; looking forward to coming back to get into more shenanigans with you all!!

The house was clean, the room was lovely, the food was delicious, and our hosts were gracious! I was delighted by all the unique touches, from the antiques, the phone booth in the hallway, and the tower gazebo, to the handmade soap and homemade maple syrup! Peter and Vicki put time, creativity and care into each breakfast, not simply feeding us. We enjoyed riding our bikes into Preston, a night at the Commonweal Theatre, ice cream at Clara's (try the London Fog!) and a trip to the local farmers market on Saturday.

With a limited amount of vacation time, I need to make every night count. I am so glad that I…read morediscovered this wonderful B&B in one of Southeast Minnesota's most gorgeous towns. The first time I stayed at Scandinavian Inn was 2009; the last time was this past weekend. I initially was attracted to the place because of their commitment to serve only free range eggs and locally raised meats at their breakfasts. I've since learned many more reasons to love this inn. Breakfast The breakfast at the Scandinavian Inn is probably the best one in all of Lanesboro if not Fillmore County. On our first morning we were served Persian Quiche (crust-less), which contains free range local eggs, Swiss chard, spinach, tofu and other delicious ingredients. Along with it was coffee, warm cornbread right from the oven, a selection of homemade jams and jellies, fresh fruit, orange juice, and ham steak from a local farmer whose livestock range free in naturally stress-free pastures. Our second morning's breakfast was similarly as big and included oven-baked French toast with homemade syrup made by Peter and Vicki (the inn's owners) as well as chocolate chocolate-chip muffins, lemon bread, fresh raspberries from the inn's gardens, and rommegrot--a rare Norwegian treat. Bed I am picky where I sleep, and need a firm mattress. My wife prefers a more cushy sleeping experience. We were both quite satisfied. Rooms at the inn are tastefully decorated in period pieces (the inn was built in 1892). While some are attracted to the Bed and Breakfast because of its commitment to sustainability--for example, it draws heavily from geothermal heating and cooling rather than constant AC--this may worry some who are used to the creature comforts. However, with our window open and two fans available to us, the room was quite pleasant and in fact one night we found ourselves reaching for the comforter / quilt beautifully adorning our antique bed. It should be noted that one bedroom has its own dumbwaiter, whereby breakfast is served in the room and not communally with the other guests. Hosts The inn is owned and run by Peter and Vicki, world travelers who have been to Egypt, Morocco, Japan, Nepal, and beyond. Their experience in the Peace Corps and as upstanding Minnesotans serves them well in their roles of host and hostess. Guests are made welcome by an initial tour (the house is quite big and a tour is welcome and needed) as well as by the smaller things: fresh coffee brought upstairs an hour before breakfast, personal recommendations, and a willingness to share their music, art and conversation. House In the Bed & Breakfast capital of Minnesota, Lanesboro is in no short supply of beautiful Victorian style houses. There are a few things that set Scandinavian Inn apart from the others: -located in quietest part of town -green-minded (no power lawn mower, sheets and towels air dried, etc.) -rooftop gazebo (great place to enjoy a glass of wine or just stare at the stars) -tastefully appointed common areas with antique couches, a piano, books, cd collection and stereo The Town If the Root River State Trail is a necklace, stringing together Bluff Country villages for some 60 miles, then Lanesboro is its crown jewel. The town has a waterfall, regional theater that is quite good (and I am a theater snob), winery with delicious wines made from (mostly) local ingredients such as apples and rhubarb, art gallery, restaurants, shopping and more. If you want a laid back weekend away, Lanesboro is an excellent choice.

Sometimes I am nervous about a B&B because the furniture may be old and unkept. However the furniture at the Golden Lantern, mostly antique and eclectic, was clean, comfortable and in great condition. Chateau Ramy is named after it's sole proprietor Mr. Ramy, and it's kitchen is run by Executive Chef Mr. Brian. It's located within a few minutes of Menomonie's greatest attractions, it's bars and shops downtown. Chateau Ramy has plenty of off-street parking, but if you decide not to drive which is wise if you've been drinking with Menomonie cops sucking so bad, a cab ride to and from downtown bars is a low cost option at around $11-13. Chateau Ramy is small but makes efficient use of its space. When my party checked-in, the host/owner greeted us promptly at the door, although luggage service was not offered, the close parking didn't make it too much of an inconvenience. Once checked in, I was offered a refreshing complimentary alcoholic beverage which I gladly accepted. Once all settled in, Executive Chef Brian brought us out a base meal, which is the meal one eats before they consume copious amounts of alcohol to stave off extreme hangovers. The base meal consisted of fine cheese spreads, exotic crackers and delectable sausages and tomatoes with a little pizza mixed in. While we ate, we were entertained by friendly banter and a good old fashioned drinking game of hockey. After the game, we ventured out downtown and returned to blown-up air mattresses in the living room that were more than sufficient to slumber on. Then in the AM, after handling a brief morning accident, Chef Brian served us breakfast which was the prefect way to wake up to a class 2 hangover. From what I can remember as my body digested the last of the alcohol remaining in my belly from the night before, breakfast was amazing with small potatoes, eggs, and bread with french pressed coffee on the side being served. We departed soon after to watch the Packer game at the Ale House, who's food sucks by the way, but that for a different review. I would highly recommend this hidden gem known as Chateau Ramy and the food mastery of Executive Chef Brian. Their team work to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable was second to none and we plan on coming back many more times in the future. My only complaint whatsoever is that this B&B is not wifi friendly, although Chateau Ramy has wifi, he would not provide his password claiming he didn't know it, but I assume it's the same password he uses for all of his other passwords and doesn't want to give that sensitive information up, also known as a George Costanza move.

When I arrived on Saturday, I was informed that I missed the Welcome Orientation that was scheduled for me on Friday. At this orientation, I missed receiving my welcome packet which included a suggested itinerary and the tour of facilities by Mr. Ramy himself. Although I was disappointed I missed this important information, I did not feel that it decreased the enjoyment of my stay. As others had mentioned in their reviews, the evening cocktail reception with appetizers and the morning breakfast were superb! I felt that the Chateau did not advertise these perks enough, but they were certainly a welcomed surprise! Although there were some issues with my bed, which for some unknown reason had the plug removed during the night, the stay was cozy and relaxed. I appreciated that the Cheateau allowed for a late check-out and that the housekeeping services were efficient and abundant. I completely recommend this Chateau for your overnight stay in Menomonie. Not only are the views breathtaking from the front entrance, but the host(s) are welcoming and accommodating. The dollar value of the stay, cannot be surpassed!

The Mansion is beautiful, a real mix of old and new.. so you get history.. but still really nice bathrooms and big bedrooms It's about three blocks further than the other highly rated one in town and well worth the extra travel. We were greeted by our gracious hosts, Tom and Sandy. We made it just in time for the afternoon snack.. you know.. wine, cheese etc... with time to enjoy the large veranda. In fact, we were there for three nights and made extensive use of the veranda.. at breakfast, in the afternoon and in the evening. Tom and Sandy are good about seating you with people that are a good match.. or if you prefer.. alone.. there is plenty of space. You can even have food delivered to your room. We played croquet on the grounds (yes, they have ample parking, gorgeous landscaping, a fountain and a place to play croquet) it was fun, but when my wife kept beating me I decided it was time to try something else. (I grew up in the city, what do I know about croquet?) Back to the breakfast thing.. one day the whole area suffered a power outage so they fired up the grill and cooked us our breakfast. No big deal, it was excellent. We stayed in the Joseph room, but were able to view all except one and they were all very nice. We had a King sized bed (super comfortable) and an oversized bathroom.. a big tub with jets and a shower that I needed the instructions (laminated) to use.. so many sprayers. As we spoke with the other guests.. we were all in agreement that this is a really remarkable Bed and Breakfast. Tom and Sandy's labor of love really shines. A great value.
