It was my first time at Peppers (Monday, May 4th), and I was excited about it. Arrived about 9am, and was quickly overwhelmed (in a good way) at the variety and trying to navigate the connected greenhouse rooms and out door areas. It's a little like a maze, only organized into right angles. Seemed there was only one way in and one way out, which is also okay. Things went downhill after the first hour as it was getting crowded, and customers were waiting in the parking lot hoping to snag a cart from someone leaving. by 10:30 it was so crowded, with cutomers as well as employees trying to move racks of plants around, that it was often necessary to wait for someone to pass, before I could walk down a main aisle heading in the opposite direction. I had to check out twice, and both times the owner (Mr. Pepper) and his wife were at the counter. Both tended to speak only to the girl working the register, but when necessary to ask me for clarification (like "Is this your's too?" kind of thing), the tone was curt and to the point, delivered without a smile. It was busy, I get that there's little time for chit-chat, but it felt a little like being in line at the Soup Nazi (Seinfeld, Season 7, Episode 6). But, I wouldn't be writing this review if it weren't for what I realized this morning: Every single basil plant I bought is actually a dozen or so plants growing together in a small pot. I bought seven, and when picking them out I was curious as to why they were so small. Now I know. This seems to be a trend I've noticed, at both Lowe's and Home Depot, where several plants are crammed into one pot to create the illusion of a larger plant with an established root system. Crowded roots become suppressed roots, thus a stunted plant that does not thrive. This **can** be seen by some as a plus, but I find it misleading, and it is not a proper potting method for growing healthy plants. The basils ranged from $2.95 to $3.95. And last, I never did see where the restrooms were, but one of the friends I was with, who has been here many times, shook her head when I asked where it was, saying, "You don't want to go in there." Maybe it was an outhouse? I took her advice and visited Royal Farms on the way home. In summary, it is worth going to, but be ready for a less than enjoyable experience, unless you arrive and leave early. Get there early to get a cart, don't expect "friendly" service if it's busy, and check the stems of whatever you consider buying to see if multiple plants are potted. read more

If you're looking for a store with incredibly rude employees who have no desire to answer a question or assist, seemingly hate their jobs, speak condescendingly about other customers and a store with very high prices for mediocre inventory, this is definitely the place for you. Checkout is a total joke, as they don't even have barcode scanning system. The elderly man just yells out individual prices to the cashier to ring up. No itemization of your purchase. When I asked about how someone can return an item without see the specific item on the receipt, he snarled, "We don't take returns." Really?! If you dare ask a question during checkout, such as "why am I being charged for 14 items on my receipt when there are only 12 items on my cart?" you are looked at as if you stole something and how dare you correct them. Good luck. After visiting three times, we have no desire to return. The employees can totally ruin what should be a fun visit. read more

If you need a "pick me up" this is the place to go! They have fresh flowers, pretty/fun pots and for those less green thumbed (like me) a great selection of silk/fake flowers. A treasure to have in Milton! read more

Went to Peppers this spring to load up on plants. Their staff offered little help in selecting plants. Actually, when asked for a perennial climbing vine. They suggested mandevilla. So I bought 2 $35 plants- only to find out when I got home they are not perennial in our zone. Then when the car was loaded toward the end of their open hours, the car broke down. I explained the problem to two of the employees who said the gates will close at 5 PM, but they would come out to let a tow truck in. Out of convenience to them, I took the risk of starting the car & moved it out of the drive to the road right off way. Not on their property. When the țow truck arrived, the owner of the nursery came whipping out on his golf cart demanding to know what we were doing. He was more than rude! I had to go into an extended explanation about the vehicle break down & moving it off his property. He grunted, got back on his cart & drove off. No sorry for your problems or anything. There are 4 of us that will never touch foot on his property again. Life is too short to deal with such ugliness. read more

This was my first time going to Pepper Greenhouses and I was amazed at their selection and prices. They have a wide variety of houseplants, pots, and outdoor plants including vegetables and herbs. The customer service was excellent and they were very knowledgeable and were able to answer any questions I had. I will definitely be visiting more often! read more

And I have no clue who those about rude service are talking about because I've been here easily over a dozen times in the last year alone and have never once had anything but excellent service!! They have good selections. If you love plants, knows a lot about them, already have some common plants at home and looking for unique/different plants, you would enjoy each visits. prices are sometimes very high, sometimes very reasonable. I do not recommend buying a soil here for indoor plants, they got little worms. They don't give you extra discount when you ask more. And about employees, in my experience, if you ask them about plant care or product related, they will help you as much as they know. read more

The employees are disrespectful and the customer service I received there was among the worst I've experienced (I almost never write reviews on Yelp but I felt compelled after my experience with this business). Shipping takes forever and they don't provide accurate estimates for shipping times. A few years ago I even had to cancel my order because it hadn't been shipped after over two months. This year, I was told before placing my order that shipping time was a little over two weeks. Three weeks later, I followed up and was told that it was likely to take twice as long. When I asked the reason, Fred responded that if I didn't want to wait, I should cancel my order. Before doing so, I followed up asking if the current shipping estimate was accurate---no response. I don't know how they have any customers at all based on how they treat people, and according to the reviews on yelp, I am not the only one who feels this way. They should show a little more appreciation for their customers which is the reason they are still in business at all. read more

I only recently was introduced to Peppers by a friend of mine. Such a selection of plants - so many species, and many varieties per species in many cases. They have interesting plants, not the same variety that every other big box and even small nurseries have, either. They offer plants I have wanted but can't easily find anywhere else, including online. (Spigelia marilandica, for instance - they have multiple varieties of this species when it's usually hard just finding one.) Their prices are extremely competitive, too, compared to online and many other places on Delmarva. I drive there from Ocean Pines, Maryland, and don't regret a single mile because of great variety, excellent prices, competent help, nice selection of pots and accessories, and healthy plants. read more

I wish I had read these reviews and also the info on the site. What I wasn't expecting to see is 1. Your shipment can take up to one year. 2. If the product you ordered is not in stock anymore they will send you what's available. In other words you can be charged more or less. Their wasn't any notes saying they will contact you first. 3. They don't ship on weekdays. 4. I placed my order 5 days ago and I haven't receive not one email about my order. I am so upset of not reading the reviews before I purchased 2 plants, "flame leaf spurge" and the "Madusa's Head" @ $28 After a few messages back and forth, no one gave me the information I was looking for; a confirmation number, an order number and a tracking number; very unprofessional. To add insult to injury, Their photos are so misleading. the flame leaf spurge arrived with maybe 6 live leaves and Madusa's Head is one inch across, if that. I am so surprised this company has not been sued for false advertisement. Will never do business again nor will I guide my friends to this vendor. read more

Really rude. I was there picking up some stuff on the way out of town and I happened to have my dogs with me. While waiting for my friend to get his purchases I took my dogs to the side of the field at the parking lot so they could pee. There was a field next to it but it was planted so I made sure to keep them out of the field and just in the Weeds area next to the parking lot. Some jerk with a beard riding around in one of their carts rides over and start screaming at me like I murdered someone. He said the barrier in the parking lot shouldn't be breached. If he just been polite asking do you mind keeping her dogs in the parking lot, Not a problems. There's no signs up that said it was a problem. I wrote their company privately on social media expressed my thoughts. They read the message with no response. I assume they really don't care how their employees treat people. Since this happened and I've been hearing other people saying they are really nasty there. Lights too short to deal with crappy people. The plants are nice but there's other places that have nice plants doing nicer people to deal with. read more

I called them last year to find out if they had any native plants in stock. The person who answered the phone was immediately a bit short with me and told me to just come in. I explained I was trying to decide between them and a nursery to the south and did not have time to visit both that day, so could he just let me know what types of native plants they might have in general, if any. The answer was curt again, saying he didn't know, but they probably had some, so just come in. I again told him I couldn't do so, and that if he didn't know what they had in stock, I would just go to the other place. The guy was again rude and tried to badger me into coming in to look for myself. No thank you. I had previously gone to walk through their selection and found the staff uninformed and unhelpful. And Peppers absolutely pales in comparison to another nursery where the staff does their best to either show me themselves where something, is or find another staff member who can help me, or at least points me to the right department where they can see the staff member I need. It's just not worth dealing with this place, and I've found out they have a reputation for being curt, downright rude, and even combative over simple requests and questions. Just left Peppers and even tho we have a mandatory mask mandate. Peppers is NOT enforcing this. Comment that I got when I made a comment was that they had only seen one man without a mask. Actually there was a mother with a child, at least 8 years old walking around with her mask in her hand! Supply miserable, but I do understand when I was told that panic buying had happened there also. I have previously loved this nursery, but will not go out again this year. This was our first time to Pepper Greenhouses and we will be back! We were looking at holly trees. The female employee who helped us was very knowledgeable. She let us know about the different varieties available. The prices were very reasonable as compared to others. Ready for spring we purchased a hibiscus and 3 flowering daffodils. read more

Just returned from an enjoyable trip to Peppers. We wanted to comment on our experience. First, the friendly staff greeted us and were available to give directions and advice during our entire shopping experience. Next, the selection was incredible and each green house we walked thru housed healthy and sturdy plants. Finally, the total at the cash register was surprisingly pleasant compared to big box stores and other greenhouses in the area. Peppers is the real deal and reminded me of my childhood going to the town greenhouse to buy tomato plants with my uncle and listening to stories and small town gossip. Ordered back in December but didn't get my order until April due to weather which is totally understandable. What wasn't understandable was the response to my orders. In the 4 month wait I asked to exchange an item in my order and I was told they would adjust. When my order came in I received the wrong items, and my string of hearts had 1 single strand. I emailed them and basically was told that they were out of stock of the item I requested to exchange, and that the SOH was in high demand so that's why I was given the small plant. Why was I not informed they were not available when the website states they are? Though the reviews of the nursery in person may be good, I can NOT recommend you order from them online. read more

Really great place in the cute little town of Milton, De.! Called to check inventory of native sea grass type plants. Received a very nice response on the phone. Very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. Last year they were great in person when we stopped in to buy flowers for our front porch planters, and the plants were beautiful. Stopped in today and picked out four lovely Miscanthus plants, aka: "Morning Light" grass. Beautiful selection with great customer service. Well... I'm going to take some responsibility for this aggravating situation I find myself in The 3-star rating should set off a warning bell, but I was infatuated with a plant that I have not been able to procure from any of my local nurseries. (Autumnale Fuschia) I ordered three. My card was charged immediately. Weeks went by. I never received my plants. I sent them an e-mail yesterday explaining this. There is no other way to contact them. This should have been warning bell #2. I live 500 miles away, so I cannot just pop in and see them. The response was a curt reply stating that their tracking information showed the plants had been delivered, and left on my porch. I have a security camera system on my property that covers the entirety of my wraparound porch from two different angles, one points right at the front door, mailbox, and side of the porch a package would be left on. My system shows my mailman coming and going, but never bringing anything larger than regular envelopes. Obviously, I have been dismissed. Do not trust this vendor. I am reporting this to their local Better Business Bureau. read more

This is a family operated greenhouse and their customer service, selection, and prices were exceptional. We provided them with a pencil drawing of our beds and they drew in their suggested plan with a selection of plants that we would have never been able to come up with on our own. The quality of the plants themselves were exceptional and the prices were very competitive. I strongly recommend this business on service, price, and selection breadth. I would truly love to rate this greenhouse highly because of the plant selection. As a avid plant hunter and gardener I have found a varieties there that are very hard to come by... HOWEVER with the exception of the daughter in law(?) The son and his parents have been absolutely horrid every time I have gone in. I have a small service dog in a sling that I carry at all times. Each time they have shouted at me for bringing her in, (there are signs everywhere to leave your pets in the car) demanded to see her service license (which by the way is against ADA regulations) and were openly hostile. Considering that I've visited dozens of times I'm PRETTY sure that they have recognized me and just been rude because that's what they do. I owned a garden center for years. I get it's the end of the season, I get that they're tired, I get that it's hot.... but if you really enjoy so little what you are doing and why continue doing it? Again I really wish I could rate this family owned local business with high stars but I simply can't. PS The only question you can ask of a service dog handler in Delaware is "what task are they trained to perform." I also get people claim dogs are service dogs that aren't, I get those dogs can be destructive, but there are so many different ways to handle the situation which don't include hostility and rudeness. read more

D- RATING WITH BBB At the end of February I purchased fiddle leaf fig; I should have looked more closely at it before buying (so that is my fault), but in both my excitement to find a flf and support a local business I grabbed it and checked out. After I brought it home I noticed two of the larger leaves had rips in them and it had fungus gnats. When three new leaves unfurled and had edemas, I realized some of the issues were from being over-watered at the nursery. I hoped that I could solve these issues on my own, but recently realized that I couldn't. I had waited to contact Peppers because fiddle leaf figs are notoriously finicky plants and I wanted to give it a chance to acclimate to our home I called this morning to speak to someone regarding their plant-guarantee policy, or rather, lack thereof. The man who answered was rude with me upon answering. When I explained what was going on he said it was "my fault" that I bought the plant to begin with and I couldn't "prove" these issues happened at the nursery and not in my care, so there was nothing he would do to help me and would not take the plant back Anytime I asked a question he would raise his voice, interrupt and talk over me. When I asked him for his name he hung up on me If you don't possess the skills to communicate politely or effectively, you should not be the person handling customer service phone calls I have never been spoken to this way and am honestly in disbelief over it. After this phone call I began researching their reviews and they have a D- rating with Better Business Bureau. Needless to say, I will not be returning and will be letting my friends and coworkers know how I was treated. This place stole my money plain and simple. On July 8 I place an order for 1 plant that was listed as immediately available. I paid for it. Funds were transferred. No plant. After a decent amount of time I emailed this company and got a short note that said the plant isn't big enough to ship yet, it will go out in a week or so. Ok. It is now August 22 - 6 1/2 weeks after they got paid. I have yet to receive either the plant I ordered, or any explanation as to the delay. read more
